Zagnuts, gin and dog breeds – Pour House Pub Trivia’s Thursday!
Pour House pub trivia’s Thursday brought you seven great games of live trivia action!
We featured the Zagnut, a major point of a movie I loved growing up: The Great Outdoors. John Candy was so awesome in the 80s.
Read on to see how it all went down.
Bunkers – Leesburg, Virginia
A GEM of a game here a Bunker in Leesburg! (Bad pun) It was real close at the end, and the zen art of strategic wagering won the prizes!
Here are the results:
Thundercats in 1st
Your Mom in 2nd
Cranius Maximus in 3rd
Our first category for next week will be Digimon!

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD
Between Zagnuts and Ballcock Assemblies we had one helluva night outside on the patio tonight at Champions trivia night. It was a gorgeous night to run a little outdoor live trivia event! And it was for sure some great times! I’d like to thank everyone for coming out and playing this evening.
There were some fun questions. And mix them with some cold beer and fantastic weather and awesome peeps, and you have the recipe for a very memorable evening of trivia. I got a TOP 5 list of favorite questions/ answers from tonight’s game – admittedly, many of which tickle my inner 7th grader to giddiness:
1. Float rods, Shank nuts, and Ballcock assemblies – how can I not love this one?!?!?
2. Zagnut – haven’t had one in a while and going to this weekend!
3. Mork & Mindy – one of my faves as a kid
4. Shar-Pei – always loved these dogs – the uglier and wrinklier the better!
5. Bombay Sapphire – brings back memories
So, my phone battery expired! So unfortunately, I was not able to snap any shots of your smile faces tonight for the blog but that don’t mean I can’t give LOVE & MAD PROPS to our TOP 3 for climbing the trivia hill tonight and cashing in on the win!
1st Place: Vitrifiers
2nd Place: Just Good Enough
3rd Place: Wise Beyond Our Beers
Great work everyone and thanks again for coming out. Hope you enjoyed. We will definitely have to plan another outdoor event at some point.
Until next week, I wish everyone a wonderful weekend and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you moms out there! Enjoy your Sunday 🙂
See you next Thursday when we kick off with a question in the category of “Ready Player One,” courtesy of Vitrifiers. See ya soon. DG 🙂
Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia
At least one team came to play tonight and their name was That’s Not My Leg. I remember specifically in round 2 saying on THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS “And the only team to pick up the 2 point bonus on that one was That’s Not My Leg”
As if that statement might mean NOTHING to you, I’ll put it in layman’s terms: That’s Not My Leg built a fairly large lead after only 2 rounds of play, and it did not stop there. Going into the final question, they were up a whopping 16 points on the field. They couldn’t be touched, they couldn’t be caught, they couldn’t be stopped. It was all TNML tonight. I believe this was their first time with the core group of players they had tonight and it seemed to be working for them so hopefully this trend continues into the weeks ahead. It was truly something special to watch. 2nd place tonight went to Food for Thought, the only team to get the final question correct. 3rd place went to Boner Garage.
That’s it for the game tonight, post-season is coming up mighty fast, I hope you all are ready for it!! Come back next week to prep your game before playoffs at the end of the month. Until then guys, I’ll see ya!
1st Place: That’s Not My Leg
2nd Place: Food for Thought
3rd Place: Boner Garage
Next week’s category: Phoenix Suns
Guido’s – Frederick, MD
Another always enjoyable game of live trivia is in the books from Guido’s Speakeasy! There is such a great group of teams every week here, and they always come ready to play!
Finishing in 3rd last night was Friends of Dick Johnson! Taking 2nd place was a nice surprise by 5 O’Clock Charlie and A Stygmatism!! Getting back into the winners seat for the 1st place victory was T.N.C!!! I have no idea what to expect for next Thursdays winners choice question, but try not to get too aroused by Tuna Noodle Casserole’s category choice: Penetration! You gotta get back into Guido’s next week for this!!

Lake Linganore Association – New Market, MD
What a night we had at Lake Linganore! After a week’s absence, it was nice to come back to the rowdy crowd under the tent! We had all sorts of fun discussing Shakespeare fixing his toilet, various suggestive-sounding smartphone apps, and the proper way to pronounce “Gyro” when talking about Greek food (it’s “YEE-roh,” by the way 😛 )
It was neck and neck for our top teams going into the finale, where smart wagering and a correct answer put Sloppy Seconds in first by ONE POINT. It came down to a tiebreaker for second place. Faking Bad took second with Moose & Squirrel taking third. Next week’s winners’ choice category is Baseball – I’ll see you under the tent next week!

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD
Coming soon!
Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland
For the second week in a row, the final question had teams smacking their forehead at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg. With all of the stellar competition we have week in and week out, sometimes the final question makes all the difference. That pesky question shifted teams all over the leaderboard, and led to a (surprise) victory for Suck it Frosty! The surprises didn’t stop there, as Short Bus and Smella Nella came from way back in the field to round out the top three. Next week, we’ll begin with a question on 1950s Rock and Roll! ~ Matt
