You’ve Got the Right One Baby… Tuesday Night Trivia!
After last week’s snowstorm, everyone was glad to have a full Tuesday night trivia schedule that included 108 teams across 15 venues:
ROUND 1:
Tuesday’s game opened with a question on this stoner comedy:
After a three-part question on menu items was followed by the heroics of John F. Kennedy‘s naval career, we closed with a look at this monumental college basketball upset from earlier this month:
With few surprises in the opening stanza, 19 teams began their night with a perfect score of 36 points.
ROUND 2:
Tuesday’s audio question featured three “Girl” songs: “My Girl” (by The Temptations), “Girl Crush” (by Little Big Town), and “Rich Girl” (by Gwen Stefani). We also discussed the work of Charles Darwin, the TV series “Fresh Off the Boat”, and this Japanese landmark:
Not to be confused with a Pacific island nation, that landmark is Mount Fuji. Only 12% of our teams earned bonus points on this question by also knowing that this peak can be found on the island of Honshu. Three teams rolled through the second round with perfect scores: SuperNOVA (The Block), Tequila Mockingbird (The Block), and Smarty Pants (P.I.G.S. BBQ).
HALFTIME:
Tuesday’s delicious halftime page featured pictures of desserts along with a matching section on car models. Exactly one-quarter of our teams recorded perfect scores, with the overall average reaching 17.4 points. Here are Tuesday’s top scores at the halftime break:
- Smarty Pants (P.I.G.S. BBQ): 92
- Kappa Crabs (The Block): 90
- How Did I Get Here? (Greene Growlers): 90
- Five Dollar Massage (The Block): 89
- Zin It to Win It (Olney Winery): 89
ROUND 3:
Tuesday’s third round included questions on the recent Presidential elections in South Africa, the discoveries of Dr. Walter Reed, and this “Friends” character (specifically, the one on the right):
That young character introduced at the end of the eighth season is Emma Geller-Green. Only one team managed to run the table in the third round, as Breadsticks (Upper Deck) notched a perfect score of 36 points.
ROUND 4:
Tuesday’s final round began with questions on the Shih Tzu (a name which is rather difficult to spell correctly) and the enormous Lake Baikal, before offering this query concerning MLB Pitchers:
–> Among MLB pitchers who began their careers after 1980, these are the only two pitchers to each amass at least 350 career wins.
While most teams earned their wager with one of the two answers, only 19% of the field earned bonus points with both correct answers of Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens. Four teams closed their night with a perfect final round: Pax (Cugini’s), How Did I Get Here? (Greene Growlers), Witiots (Monkey La La), and Drink Apple Juice, the O.J. Will Kill You (Quincy’s South). Here are Tuesday’s top scores heading into the final question:
- How Did I Get Here? (Greene Growlers): 166
- Pax (Cugini’s): 162
- Breadsticks (Upper Deck): 159
- Zin It to Win It (Olney Winery): 158
- Kappa Crabs (The Block): 156
FINAL QUESTION (21.7% success rate):
–> Who holds the record for most posthumous Grammy award wins in a single night, winning five Grammy Awards in 2005 including the Album of the Year for “Genius Loves Company”?
For the second week in a row, the success rate on Tuesday’s final question hovered at about 20%. Unfortunately, Michael Jackson was still alive in 2005, but the answer we were looking for was Ray Charles. Congratulations to Pax (Cugini’s), the only team to earn the Perfect 21 tonight with correct responses on all wagering questions. Here are the highest overall scores from Tuesday night:
- How Did I Get Here? (Greene Growlers): 164
- Pax (Cugini’s): 164
- Menace to Sobriety (The Block): 161
- Mercenaries (Topgolf): 161
- Stink Floyd (Monkey La La): 160
- We Used to Growl (Greene Growlers): 159
- Freebirds (Blue Parrott): 159
