Yearling and liters on Tuesday with Pour House Pub Trivia!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday mixed Yearling and liters – no, not Liters of Yuengling, that’s something else entirely!

More like units of measure and classic novels, silly.

Check out the recaps, would ya?

Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA

Another great game tonight at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington.  some of our best teams were admittedly playing a bit shorthanded tonight, but Eric’s Illegitimate Children was NOT one of those, as they led wire-to-wire to make it two wins in a row.  Valley Girls played a strong game to finish second, with Menace to Sobriety taking third.  A shout out goes to our newest team, feces pieces, whose attempt at a random bonus was denied despite giving me the name of the hair-cutting vacuum  from “Wayne’s World”: the Suck Cut!  “Well, it certainly does suck…”  Next week, we’ll begin with a question on the Cold War.  ~ Matt

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

“Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than smart!” Oh the life gems we hear during some nights, Pour House Pub Trivia should write a book. Or embroider pillows. Something!

Before I give the astonishing finals for tonight big shout out to BTI who brought me by far the classiest pens in the circuit – A whole bag full! Come play with me and you will have a quality writing utensil! I love it. 🙂

What I also loved was the flip flopping all over our leader board tonight, crazy stuff. 3rd tonight went to Jungle Fever who never make any fussy about it, they just side up to accept their money with a small smile and a thank you. Humble, and possibly a bit surprised. 2nd went to a SOLO, Newton’s Minion! Awesome job fending off these sharks! You punched them right in the nose with that final 😉 And First! Good lord, first! First went to a new team, Disaster!

Apparently they are all in town for FEMA training and they walked in and made their presence known from the gitgo. Fittingly enough, they want to start next week with a question about FEMA. Grab your emergency radio and join us next week!

Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD

I swear I am about to go over to the bar and drink about 5 pints of Angry Orchard! Would anyone care to convert that to LITERS for me?! Here, I’ll do it: 2.635 liters, which is oddly enough about the same amount of oil in my car’s engine.

Here are the results of tonight’s game:

How I Met Ronnie in 1st

Level 3 Booksellers in 2nd

MoMo in 3rd.

Our first category for next week is Abraham Lincoln, I hope we will not have to convert four score.

Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD

The second week of the Nationals Tickets Tourney is in the books from the Celebrity Bar & Grill! There was also a little mix up of the teams in the top 3 after the final question was over!

Breaking a tie to grab sole possession of 3rd place was American Outlaws! Finishing in 2nd place tonight was Creswell’s Fairies!! Holding 1st place from round 2 on and never looking back was The Jersey Shore!!!

After a heated deliberation for the winners choice category, they decided on “The Jersey Shore” (The actual place, NOT the show!) for next week, so study up and I’ll see everybody next Tuesday at Celebrity Bar & Grill!!

Markham’s – Bethesda, MD

Markham’s is getting a major facelift over the next few weeks, so we will be off of trivia until April 21st!

When we come back, the round one category, courtesy of Uncle Jack, will be professional wrestling, as in the WWE and such! You guys have plenty of time to study, so I expect you guys to be experts when we
come back! Especially since that’s the day after my birthday; let’s make it a party! See you then, guys!

Until then,
Ian

Monkey La La – Frederick, MD

Liter? I don’t even know her!

Oh yes! We had a heated house of shenanigans tonight for pub trivia night at Monkey La La! Thanks for coming out and having at it this evening everyone. It certainly was a dynamic game, with twists and turns and ghoulies popping out of nowhere. Questions of the Night have top be like this:

1. Pints and Liters – an EASY winner. Any time we have a bar wide debate it’s an easy winner for QON!

2. I think I gotta give #2 to the Pole Position question – it brings back memories (yes I’m that old – don’t hate).

3. The 3 spot goes to Flowbee – only because I have heard some glorious stories involving this thing. Oh yes, GLORIOUS!

When it all was said and done we had a great finish to a great game of trivia! It was Hugh Heffner who broke our 2nd Place tie. And the leader board wound up like this:

And that my friends was a game! Thanks again for playing. next Tuesday we shall do it again. Stink Floyd liked the Pittsburgh style sports team question enough that they chose “Also a Baltimore/ Washington Area Sports Team” for R1Q1 next Tuesday night.

Gave a great week and weekend everyone, and I will see you soon. DG 🙂

Orioles Nest #331 – Frederick, MD

After raining all day, things seemed to calm down right around pub trivia time. We had a great game today too, even having a few wonderful ladies passing around samples of delicious Fireball to all the teams (that stuff was delicious!). They even had some trivia questions (Fireball is from Canada?? Who Knew?) to ask at around halftime and passed out some cool Fireball swag. Thanks for coming and hanging out with us ladies! We also got to do a halftime page that I wrote, even if I may have gotten the images for Terminator and Terminator 2 mixed up just a bit.

In the end we had a final question about the origins of the word “agnostic” which served difficult for a few teams. In third place with some strategic wagering was One Crow Short of a Murder, who handed in an interesting answer for sure. Our second place team was I Took the Liberty of Fertilizing Your Caviar who knew the answer almost immediately and were the first ones to hand in. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to catch up to tonight’s winners, the Book Club Babes, who also got the final question correct. Nice job Babes! Next week we start with a TV show I’ve never heard of called “Secrets and Lies” which should be fun. Time to go look it up I guess!

Until next time,
-Chad

Quincy’s South – Rockville, MD

Quincy’s South is one of our newest venues and I think I’ve finally found my groooooooove here! What a great bunch of people! It’s awesome to see us growing every week, and so awesome to see our regulars keep coming back!

Tonight’s question of the night I think I’ll chalk up to The Yearling! A couple bonus chips missed on it, only 2 teams getting a correct answer (no one got the 2 point extra on it). Quite a game changing question. The Big Fact Hunt led most of the game but a miss on The Yearling cost them badly. They trailed by A SINGLE POINT going into the final question. D+M played consistent throughout the game and were able to sneak into the top spot pre-final. The final question was gotten by a bit over half of the crowd tonight.

With that, your final scores are as follows: 3rd place went to Healthy D who jumped up from behind with a correct response! 2nd place, The Big Fact Hunt, not able to recover from missing the bonus in the 4th and your winners tonight, now 2 in a row, is D+M! Truly great game, just a single point deciding it. We’ll be back next week for more trivia action, join us, won’t you? 😉

1st Place: D+M
2nd Place: The Big Fact Hunt
3rd Place: Healthy D

Next week’s category: George R. R. Martin’s “Essos”
