WW Pour House Trivia Do? Wednesday recap!

WWJD? I’m not entirely sure. But I am sure that Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday brought out the best with nine games of live trivia!

Check it out, gang!

Applebees – Frederick, MD

Tonight at Applebee’s we started out with a rather difficult question about Vincent Price, with nobody being able to get to Comedy of Terrors as the answer. Luckily, the rest of the questions throughout the night weren’t quite so brutal, as we had a rather easier than usual round two. Especially the question about WWJD, which might would definitely get my nomination for softball question of the night. Either way, we still had a good time with the karaoke music question, even if I had to explain what karaoke is to one of my team’s, which is something I didn’t think I’d be doing anytime soon. Also, another baseball question led to some laughs when a team tried to hand in their answer to what XBH stands for as “XBH”, instead of the actual answer of Extra-Base Hits, which was pretty funny. Halftime was fun too, with the top half being about “Great” things, and the bottom was actually rather tough for some teams. I was shocked that nobody remembered Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were both the lead singer for Genesis at different times, and listing Fergie as Stacy Ferguson and Will.I.Am as William Adams was definitely tricky.

Tonight’s final question was an excellent fact too, with the Hangover series having two of the top five highest grossing R-rated films without adjusting for inflation. Unfortunately the final question didn’t have quite the drama it sometimes does, with the standings not changing after the final. In third place was Car Ramrod, who seemed to derail from the beginning because of that tough Vincent Price question. Second place went to The Flintstones, who chose that name because somebody on the team apparently looked like Pebbles with her hair and makeup today. Winning tonight’s game was the Thundercats playing here for the second time, this time grabbing that all-important victory. Next week we start out with a question on Classic (childrens!) Toys, so go get to playing/studying! I’ll see you guys and gals next week!

Until next time,
-Chad

Toys Live Trivia Maryland

Bar Louie – Rockville, MD

We had a mixed bag of veteran and new teams battle for trivia dominance at Bar Louie this week. Along the way, we learned about the history of firing squads, extra base hits, and the mother of all esoteric trivia knowledge: Eurovision.

We also learned that one of the players on Team Cuttlefish was recently on Jeopardy!, where he won $11,000! No wonder they’ve been on such a run. Congrats!!
Teams all stayed close the whole game, heading into a particularly tricky final that led to a great, “aw, man!!” moment from stumped teams. In the end, Team Cuttlefish continued their reign another week, taking down first. In second, a new team called Team Twice, and rounding out the top three was the return of Freudian Slips!!
Team Cuttlefish has chosen, “20th Century Canadian Prime Ministers” as next week’s first category! Um… Guys, I don’t know anything about Canadian politics, unless it’s Rob Ford… Well, I guess we’ll all learn about Canada next week!

While Denny was off trying his luck in Vegas, we had a great game of live trivia last night at Barefoot Bernie’s in Hagerstown! We discussed all manner of fun stuff including Robert Mugabe’s platform shoes, how many “su’s” are actually in the title of “Sussudio,” and the fact that giving people a never-ending pasta pass at Olive Garden is clearly what Jesus would do 🙂

It was a real nail-biter going into the finale, but Slapsgiving managed to pull off the win with the sole correct answer to the final question. Sad Fat Dragons took second with Titanic Swim Team winning a third place tiebreaker over Cotton Candy. Next week’s Winners’ Choice category will be HGTV.

Thanks for having me, and hopefully I’ll see y’all again soon!

Double digit team numbers tonight made for a helluva game at Bennigan’s on this beautiful summer night! We also had (at least in one of my games) a PHT FIRST TONIGHT but more on that in a bit.
Question of the night tonight was the Laplanders question! Ah, yes the Laplanders or the “sami” those Swede-Finnish combo people or something of the like that sit up in the Arctic Circle. I should probably stop pretending like I know what I’m talking about or I may run the risk of coming off extremely ignorant and/or racist.
But, about half of the teams picked up points here, and some teams went high and got negged with Scandinavians and Nordics. Quite a game changer, that one! Going into the final, we had Stray Cats and Strangers Have the Best Candy tied in the lead with about 10 teams right behind them! Strangers played defensively and went for the 0 wager. Just after they reported, Stray Cats told me they were also wagering 0.
No matter the outcome, they would finish with the same score. But where did it place them? We’ll only 1 team got the correct response on the final. That team was HQ, who jumped up 12 points, which put them in a TIE with our leaders! So, for the first time ever, we had a THREE WAY TIE FOR FIRST PLACE! Tie breaker gave us a a wild finish. Closest to the total area of SD. 3rd place tonight, after leading for most of the 2nd half was Strangers have the Best Candy. 2nd place, HQ, and winning tonight, good comeback from The Stray Cats! Great game all, back in week. Later!1st Place: Stray Cats
2nd Place: HQ
3rd Place: Strangers have the Best CandyNext week: Rush

Rush Trivia Company Answer

God I love my Wednesday night teams!

Rowdy, mouthy, and a helluva lot of fun. Our 3rd quarter free agent action was a blast- nice to hear the heckling coming from another side for once 😉 After a little bit of a breakfast food influenced night we discovered just WWJD on the tennis court and the answer is not watch adult programming… sigh.

In 3rd tonight it was the Neverending Motorboaters who made a triumphant return and snagged themselves a 3rd place. 2nd went to Constantly Changing Team Name who had constantly changing players tonight, and 1st, well first went to those speaker carrying gentlemen of Fries Before Guys! AGAIN! One more time and it’s a streak!

Next week we start out with Lord of the Rings. See you fine paragons of intellectual beings next week!

Memories Charcoal House – Mount Airy, MD

Another awesome night at Memories Charcoal House in Mt. Airy tonight! Our teams ducked in from the sweltering heat only to be faced with red-hot competition!
We had ties throughout the game, and despite some technical difficulties, we made it through to the other side!! In third place we had our 3-Way Virgins! Just ahead of them in second place were our up-and-coming veterans, the Men & Pausers!! But the team to beat tonight with an incredible lead after the final were THE MOOPS!!
Their choice of first category next week? College Basketball!! See you next Wednesday!
-Torie

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD

Last nights game at the Tavern was CRAZY! I had my first trivia 3 way … tie to decide! It was a really great, well fought out game with lots of teams trading up for the top spots throughout the game, but going into and even AFTER the final question, there was a 3 way tie for 1st!

After the tie-breaker question, this is how we ended up: In 3rd was Team Gryffindor! In 2nd place, I’d like to welcome back the Slingshots!! With the closest answer to the tie-breaker and back in the winners seat for 1st was John Lithgow’s Fan Club!!!

They picked a Triple 50/50 for next Wednesdays winners choice, “Twilight Zone or Outer Limits”, so study up and come check out what an exciting game we have at The Tavern sometime!!

Tonight’s game of Pour House Trivia saw the triumphant return of some
old veterans to the Revolution Bar. It was a roller coaster of a
night, that ended with a bang!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Resist-The-Urge”: I know Piano Man is like the epitome of Karaoke
Songs, but that does not mean you should be singing it during a
question ABOUT THE SONG!!

In “Points!-Points-For-Everyone!”: WWJD? I feel like you would’ve had
to have lived under a rock for the past 20 years to not know what WWJD
means. Points! Points for everyone!

In “R-Rated-Goodness”: The finale saw a plethora of R-Rated films make
appearances tonight, and oddly enough, the teams tied for first both
put the same wrong answer, Terminator. How would that affect the
standings?

The tiebreaker saw some wild guesses but at the end of the night, we
had our standings!

In third place, losing the tiebreaker, Mike Hunt Loves the Hard Questions!

In second place, E=MC Hammer!

In first place, the only team with the correct answer of the Hangover,
GT80 Sauce!

Good game everyone! Next week’s Winner’s Choice category will be
Memes! Has some cheezbergers, hide yo bad answers, and surf teh
interwebz, and we’ll see you next week.

Until then,
Ian

Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap in 3rd
