What a night for Pour House Pub Trivia and the USWNT!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday was the second round of doozy storms in a row! What’s up with that, eh?
We also saw our beloved USWNT kicking some German booty, which was a treat as well!
Read on to see how it all went down.
Nothing like a little change of scenery to shake things up a bit, knock off the old dust and wake us up a bit! I for one am very thankful that the dust was not replaced by water! Our anti rain dance worked for once. 🙂
What also worked were our dynamics tonight- between the cheering for the soccer game (Which I oh-so-humbly took as cheering for my spectacular hosting skills) and the up and over delivery methods of Spooning leads to forking and Steel Magnolias- was a fun game! Thanks for your patience with our change of real estate but I think our patio game went quite well. 2 Live clue 2 thinks it went best of all as they managed to fend off the pack and score themselves another win! BTI were no slackers and came in just one point behind them. AND one point behind them were Wiser but still Dead! Only 3 points separating (and exasperating!) the top 3.
Next week we start our with NBA Free Agents. Oh this should be fun. 😉 See you next week when we are back in the AC!
Great night for some PHT here in Poolesville, and I am glad to see that everyone returned from last week’s storm unscathed.
Interesting results tonight for you, so here we go:
You Talkin’ to Me in 1st
Lightfoot in 2nd
Level 3 Booksellers in 3rd.
Your first category for next week was picked by the team Never Gets to Pick 1st Category as they were the overall points winners for tonight’s action, so you first category for next week is the TV Sitcom Parks & Recreation.
It was an interesting night for trivia at the Celebrity Bar & Grill tonight. Let’s see how it turned out, shall we?
Somehow finishing 3rd tonight was Ask Me No Questions, I’ll Tell You No Lies! In 2nd place was I’m Just Making This Up As I Go Along!! It seems like no one will ever be able to stop the powerhouse known as American Outlaws!! At this point,I can’t seem to remember the last time they didn’t finish 1st!!
They picked one of the greatest films ever made for next Tuesdays winner’s choice, The Goonies, so study up and let’s see if next week will bring in a team that can stop this incredible winning streak at The Celebrity Bar & Grill!!

One night. Two Awesome contests!
The first – the USA Women’s Soccer team bangs up Germany in a fantastic game of World Cup Soccer.
The 2nd – a room full Tuesday’s finest pub trivia crews gathered in Frederick, MD to contest the loot, honor and prestige of pub trivia champion, La La style!
And while both were great to watch, only one of them featured the likes of…
and THIS GUY:
Thanks for coming out tonight everyone. It was great to see some new teams stop by and give it a try. It was also very cool to see some traveling crews come out to La La and throw down with us for a bit. The scoreboard was a playground tonight, with action on it the whole night. Up and down swings that all culminated to a tough final.
And after the Dr. Pepper was popped, our Top 3 champions emerged! Congrats on a game well played ladies and gents!
Have a wonderful 4th of July everyone. Be safe. Be well. Have fun. Our Summer Fling continues next Tuesday night at Monkey La La and the 1st category will be Escaped Convicts. Until then my friends!
Tonight’s game featured another exciting edition of the Women’s World Cup, and even featured a question where the answer was the two teams currently playing (talk about a coincidence), complete with people yelling “GOAAAAAAAALLLL” whenever the USA scored, as well as a few “USA! USA!” chants mixed in. We also got the pleasure of hearing me sing, this time it was Barry Manilow that I had to sing. I sang I Write the Songs, which honestly I probably liked the most when I was trying to decide what song to sing. We also got to have some fun with Liquor?? (I hardly know her!) which is always a funny category name. The rare modern video games question reared it’s ugly head and stumped more than a few teams, showing that Starcraft isn’t quite as mainstream as I sometimes think it is. Tonight’s halftime sheet, authored by yours truly, ended up a challenge for quite a few teams as well. The American Authors question ended up being quite a game breaker for a handful of teams, with only a few teams getting it correct.
In the end we had a tie for first place going into the final question. after a pretty difficult and good final, only one team stood alone at the top and the final standing took shape. Taking third was one of the teams that was tied for first, but missing the final caused a bit of a drop for One Crow Short of a Murder. Second place went to Black Steel, who handed in the correct answer of Dr. Pepper almost immediately. Winning tonight is a team who I hadn’t had the pleasure of hosting for until tonight, congrats to Cranius Maximus on tonight’s victory, well done ladies! Next week we will start out the game with Game of Thrones (the HBO show, not the book) so I hope to see you all then!
Until next time,
I had a great night filling in for Nick tonight at the Tilted Kilt!
Thank you guys so much for having me as your host for tonight’s game
of Pour House trivia.
Highlights of the Night:
In “OK-Who-Didn’t-Check-The-World-Cup-Schedule?”: The answer to the
International Sports question was literally on TV the majority of the
night. Come on now, who did that?!
In “Must-Not-Look-At-Flag…” If you couldn’t picture it in your mind
already, the Maryland flag was hanging just a ways into the bar. It
took all my willpower not to stare at it…
In “Making-Ian-Say-Big-Words-Is-Mean”: Kawarjarhal? Cachaca?
Dysmelodia? Come on now, this is just ridiculous? How am supposed to
host if I cant read the damn words?!
We had a roller coaster of a night with the leaderboard, and the final
was no exception. But a final standings we had, and looked like this.
In third place tonight, the Notalent Rummies!
In second place tonight, Shakeweight!
In first place tonight, Suck it Trebek!
Congratulations everyone on a well played game! Next week’s winner’s
choice category will be Heavy Metal Music! Rock on when Nick comes
back! Have a great game, and thanks again for having me!
So local 3 teams won tonight. The USA Women’s Soccer Team. The Washington Nationals. And our winning trivia team, here at Quincy’s! Jumping right into it, we hit double digits again for the umpteenth week in a row (it’s been a raging couple months here on Tuesday nights!), and essentially had a full house with the addition of the sports festivities on the television.
Luckily, we still had interested parties for trivia, and quite a game it was! Uncle Jack held the lead at the half by a pretty large 5 point margin, but after missing a 5 point bonus chip in the third, they started to unravel a bit. That made way for D+M to add to their total and build a near unbeatable lead, holding the top spot by 12 points going into the final question. The age old PHT question, one could argue, is whether or not a team up by 12 going into the final question should wager 0, to guarantee that they don’t let the lead slip with an incorrect response OR should they bet the 1 point to cover a max wager from the trailing team and risk dropping below them if they miss it. Well, D+M took the latter path, betting the 1. Seems it didn’t matter, as they got the final right and joined the ranks of the Women’s Soccer Team and the Nationals as winners tonight! Great game! 2nd place went to the Hobgoblins, while 3rd went to Uncle Jack, who fought back after a most likely upsetting 3rd round. Well played all around and thanks to all of our teams for coming out and playing with us! Back in a week with more trivia fun! Until then 😉
1st Place: D+M
2nd Place: Hobgoblins
3rd Place: Uncle Jack
Next week’s category: The Hobbit (book, not the movie)
