Wednesday was a Wild One!
When you get this many witty and quick people together- you know there’s a possibility of things getting a little rowdy! No cops were called but it was an interesting night. Read on for the lowdown.
Valley Grill in Middletown, Md
Congrats to the winners tonight here at Valley Grill as it wasn’t “the usual suspects” that finished in the top three! Thanks to all the players for coming out for the game. Here are the results:
2nd Place in 1st
Shake Weight in 2nd
Rum Ham in 3rd
Our first category for next week is “Kevin Costner Films” ~ Ronnie
Despite the unbearable heat and humidity outside, we had a great group of teams still come out for our Wednesday game at The Tavern in Olney! There was one team that held 1st for the whole game after round 1, and took a calculated risk with a zero wager on the final question. Luckily for them, the team in 2nd answered incorrectly to get the win!! Lots of ups and downs for a lot of the teams tonight, but at the end we looked like this… Unfortunately dropping down to 3rd tonight was Ken Griffey Jr.’s Fan Club, moving up to 2nd was Blame it on the Butter, and for a second week in a row, Shart Attack was our 1st place champion!! They picked “Unexploded Ordinance” (or U.X.O. he said?) for next weeks winners choice category, so study up and I’ll see everyone back next Wednesday at The Tavern!! ~ Jon J
A packed house this week at Memories, with returning teams, new teams, and our loyal veteran teams all clashing for some crucial Summer Fling points.
Second Place: Downtown Dinkytown
First Place: Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me!
Tonight’s game started out with a question about one of my favorite new shows, ‘Rick and Morty’, which is a show on Adult Swim that is absolutely fantastic. The question asked about Morty’s mother, Beth, who works as a cardiac surgeon for horses (and isn’t even close to the most ridiculous thing on the show).
The audio question for today asked about songs with plants in the title, such as ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’, or ‘Tie A Yellow Ribbon around the Old Oak Tree’. Halftime asked teams to identify different dog breeds based on pictures of puppies, as well as identifying novel titles with the vowels removed. We had a tough science question, which asked about the property of metals that allows them to be worked into a wire, as opposed to malleability which refers to a metal’s ability to be made into a sheet. Only a few teams knew we were talking about the property of ductility.
We also had a question about the Internet Meme known as ‘Success Kid’, which was originally a small child holding a handful of sand, looking very determined about something. We also had a tough movie quotes question, asking about the film which has the quote ‘the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist’, which is from the 1995 film ‘The Usual Suspects’.
The toughest question of the night was the ‘tri’ question, as we learned the difference between centrifugal and centripetal forces, with one pulling towards the center and one pulling away. We also asked for Neptune’s first discovered moon of Triton, and the distributive property in mathematics. Tonight’s final question was in the category of African Countries, asking for a country of about 182 million residents which is the only country to be in both OPEC and the British Commonwealth of Nations. Only one team managed to get the answer of Nigeria, which definitely changed things around.
Third place tonight went to Peanut Butter and Jealous, and second went to We’ve Embraced Our Mediocrity, who led almost the whole game. Tonight’s win, however, went to the only team to get the final right, Just Good Enough! Congrats! Next week we start with a question about The Beatles, so study up!
Until next time,
-Chad
Sometimes trivia is a wonderful time of bonding among friends. And sometimes it’s a soul-crushing gauntlet. Tonight, the only saving grace was the halftime puppies! Early on, Biffslap held onto th lead, but missed the 6-4-2 and slipped into second. Coming down to the final, Sad Fat Dragons lead by one point. In a difficult category there’s always a lot of jiggery pokery with the final wagers, but SFD stood by their full 12 point wager and it paid off. Probes Exploring Uranus took third, Biffslap was second, and Sad Fat Dragons took gold. Next week’s category: 2015-16 English Soccer Season.
