Wednesday Trivia… When You Care Enough to Play the Very Best.

Wednesday’s game of Pour House Trivia welcomed 117 teams across 14 venues.

PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES REGARDING NEXT WEEK’S SCHEDULE!  WE EXPECT TO HAVE NUMEROUS CANCELLATIONS AND CHANGES DUE TO GAME TWO OF THE WORLD SERIES.

FIRST ROUND:

We began Wednesday’s game with our nightly Three Clues question, which doled out plenty of bonus points thanks to the field’s intricate knowledge of the “It” film series.  Next, a question concerning sports salaries included the most difficult bonus question of the round, as only 11% of our teams knew that (excluding endorsements) Drew Brees has earned more money than Tom Brady over the course of their respective careers.  After closing the first round with a look at the human body and deserts, we saw just three teams earn a perfect score: Trash Panda (Quinn’s), Half Nelsons (Anchor Bar), and Things You Measure (Memories).

SECOND ROUND:

Songs comprised of initials was the featured topic in Tuesday’s audio question, as we listened to “Y.M.C.A.” by the Village People, “P.Y.T.” by Michael Jackson, and “SOS” by Rihanna.  We continued with questions regarding former Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh, the novel “The Color Purple”, and TV sitcoms.  A question about cocktails gave us the most difficult wagering question of the first half:

–> Which liqueur is added to a screwdriver to create a Harvey Wallbanger cocktail?

I suppose this drink is not as popular as we thought, as only 17% of the field responded correctly with the Italian herbal liqueur Galliano.  Harsh Reality (Nido’s) and Why Not Zoidberg? (Memorieseach posted 36 points en route to a perfect second round.

HALFTIME:

Wednesday’s halftime page depicted logos of entities whose names begin with the letter ‘W’, as well as a matching section regarding current hosts of TV game shows.  Numerous classic game shows have been recently revived with new hosts, so many teams were surprised to see the answer bank include names such as Joel McHale, Elizabeth Banks, and John Cena.  Overall, five teams earned a perfect score while the overall average only reached 13.9 points.  Here is Wednesday’s halftime leaderboard:

THIRD ROUND:

Topics from Wednesday’s third round included the nation of Afghanistan, the film “Taxi Driver”, and novels with numerical titles.  With several teams cruising towards a perfect third round, the final question crushed most of those aspirations:

–> After Ganymede and Titan, identify any one of the next three largest moons of our Solar System.  Name all three for a two-point bonus.

Since Earth’s moon is one of the three correct answers, most teams had no trouble earning wagering points.  Obviously, coming up with the other correct answers of Io and Callisto was much more difficult.  Only three teams tacked on these well-earned bonus points, with two of those teams completing a perfect third stanza: Tokyo Tentacle Storm (Belles’) and Why Not Zoidberg? (Memories).

FOURTH ROUND:

Wednesday’s final round asked questions concerning the Soccer War of Central America, the chart-topping country song “How Do I Live”, and Qantas Airlines.  After closing the fourth round with a Triple 50/50 question about nuts and berries, we saw three teams to earn a perfect score, all of whom where playing at Quinn’s: Scrotal Charisma, Hipster Fashion Consultantsand Trash Panda.  These were your highest scoring Wednesday teams after four rounds of play:

WEDNESDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (7.7% success rate):

–> Perhaps better known because of its association with mail and television, which word refers to the official indentation struck on items made of precious metals in order to certify the content?

Only nine teams gave us the correct answer of Hallmark.  Four of the nine correct responses came from the same venue, but NOT the one you might expect.  The field at Dragon Hops in Purcellville was on point for this final question.  With a rather difficult final question, there were no PHT records set on this Wednesday, as none of our teams earned the Perfect 21.  Here is Wednesday’s final overall leaderboard:
