We Want Some Figgy Pudding… and Trivia!

Our last night of trivia before Christmas once again featured a smattering of holiday-themed questions and answers, including the final question!  All of our Thursday venues are on as scheduled for next week, so don’t forget to come back in seven days for last game of 2016.  In the meantime, here are the top teams from last night:

THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (67 teams across nine venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: Ant Farm Keyboard (Fish Market) with 172

–> Highest Score after Round 4: Lowered Expectations (Quincy’s) Ant Farm Keyboard (Fish Market) with 160

–> Highest First Half Score: PC Principals (Fish Market) with 88

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Comfortably Dum (Champion Billiards) and Lowered Expectations (Quincy’s)

–> The halftime page slightly tougher than normal, yielding an average score of 15.5, including six teams with a perfect 20.

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (81.2% success rate):

–> According to the text of an 1843 work, which fictional character earned a salary of 15 shillings per week, a figure whose modern equivalent would be about $5,000 U.S. dollars per year?  (you’ll find the answer in this blog)

Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, MD

The weather outside may be frightful, but Quincy’s Pour House Trivia game was so delightful tonight, as we inched closer to Christmas!  And no there’s no sarcasm brought on by a particularly rude group of drunks there, why would you ask?

Between a murderous tossup between Moments and Memories, everyone questioning their knowledge of the Hanukkah Song, a lack of general knowledge of Jason Statham roles outside of the Transporter series, and everyone underestimating the popularity of Kenny G, tonight was a dogfight to the end, culminating in the rare Multiple Team, Multiple Place Tiebreaker, seeing one team’s podium hopes dashed on the rocks.

In third place tonight, winning their tiebreaker after a nice little comeback, Smellanella!

In second place tonight, losing a tough tiebreaker after leading most of the night, Lowered Expectations!

In first place tonight, with a nice little comeback of their own, Clever Team Name!

Great game everyone! Next week we’re gonna kick things off with HBO’s “Westworld”! Binge it over the Christmas holiday, and have a happy holiday while you’re at it, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,

~ Ian

Fish Market in Alexandria, VA

A quick congratulations to PC Principals, who won our Holiday random drawing for a $100 cash prize tonight at the Fish Market! They played a TON of trivia the last 3 weeks, were able to qualify for the drawing, and got some holiday luck thrown their way and they won the drawing! That’s $100 for PCP, who will maybe look to add to that $$$ pot this post-season.. 😉

Our final PHT game before the holiday weekend, tonight we had a PACKED house at the Fish Market! Always a good place to wind-down and finish off the PHT week, tonight’s field of teams was pretty stacked and we were ready for another good game! Last week we saw Atomic Dogs squeak one through PC Principals and take down a win. They knew they’d not be here this week so they let PCP pick the category for THIS week.  PCP took advantage, picking Coen Brothers Films, and it helped them get off to a 14 point start after the very first question!

Keeping the momentum, PCP held the lead at the half BUT only by a single point, as Ant Farm Keyboard, back from a short hiatus, looked ready compete! Ant Farm Keyboard kept the pace alive in the 3rd round, getting nearly every point! PC Principals kept up as well, still holding a lead going into the 6-4-2. Ant Farm Keyboard got the 6 points on the 6-4-2, PCP settling for 4, and with only a 1 point lead, PC Principals dropped to 2nd place after that one.

Round 4 started rough for PCP, missing their 1 wager on the first question, crucial when trying to claw back from a single point down. Now, Ant Farm Keyboard had at least a 2 point lead. A miss later in the round for AFK would equalize the misses for both of our top teams. Going into the final, it was Ant Farm Keyboard who led the field, up 1 point on PCP. The final tonight played easier than expected, so no surprised after that question. AFK completes the comeback and takes down the victory! That’s 2 in a row that PCP has lost, a rarity for them. I’m sure they come back next time, hungry to reclaim the top! We’ll see you then!

Bowl Game Trivia

Guido’s in Frederick, MD

We had a fun game at Guido’s Speakeasy on Thursday! All the teams were having up and down moments at some point during the game, so it was interesting to see who our top 3 would end up being. After the final was answered, our top looked like this… 3rd place went to Unathletico Madrid, 2nd place was taken by Team Felicia, and extending their win streak one more week, 1st place was T.N.C.! Since they won’t be around for next week, they told me to tell everyone “Go Folk Yourself”…. yes…. that will be next Thursdays winners choice category, so Happy Holidays and I’ll see everyone next week at Guido’s!!
