We just keep growing! Pour House Live Trivia Wednesday Recap!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday added a new face for the second week in a row!

Welcome to the family, Memories Charcoal House! Make yourself at home; we’re thrilled to have you around.

Check out the recaps!

Applebees – Frederick, MD

At Applebee’s today, we opened up with one of my favorite topics, the Baltimore Ravens. However, it turned out to be a more difficult question than I expected, and somehow led to there being two football questions in the same round, and two tough ones at that!

We also got into some discussions about the legendary Gutzon Borglum (I swear I know who he is!) and one of my favorite literary characters, Don Quixote. In the meantime, however, was a game that definitely tested the teams playing, with some questions having some serious bite to them.

In the end the Smarty Pants took third place with some crafty wagering to avoid a tie with the Dynamic Duo (Trio?) who decided to go for it all on the final. In second place was the team who was in the lead for almost all of the game, and had a pretty commanding lead going into the final question, that team was Car Ramrod. Unfortunately for them, however, the team who was in second was the only team to get the final correct, Dalek Dance Party. Congrats to them on a game well played. Next week’s opening category, courtesy of our winners, is Cowboy Actors, so get to studying on those westerns!

Until next time,
-Chad

Barefoot Bernie’s – Hagerstown, MD

We did it BIG at Bernies in Hagerstown, MD tonight for trivia night! 11 teams gathered round to shake things up a bit on the Washington Co. trivia front! And it was indeed a wild night at Bernies! packed house to start it all of with. Anb what better way to do that than with some Dungeons & Dragons trivia! Oh yeah!

Although I have enjoyed many a D&D games in my day, tonight’s game was also filled with some other fun answers that made me smile…like The Jungle Book of Eli – two films that should never be married, yet were tonight at Pour House Trivia! I also do have fond memories of the film, City Slickers! Jack Palance was a bad ass for sure!

Thanks to the 11 pub trivia crews that came out tonight and had some fun with us on this cold February night! And congrats to our Top 3. It was a photo finish for 2nd and 3rd. Team “I’m Just Here so I Don’t get Fined” took the lead in the second half and then ran away with it after every other team missed their bonus in round 4. Awesome game y’all! Congrats on 1st. And 2nd Place and 3rd went to “Screen Door on a Battleship,” and “Thinkers and Dreamers,” respectively. The final was a tough one, but a correct answer of Denmark locked it up! Nice work y’all! Did not get to snap photos tonight, unfortunately…it don’t mean I don;t love your smiley mugs though 😉

REMEMBER: NEXT WEEK WE START OUR NEW TIME AT BAREFOOT BERNIE’S!

7:30PM SIGN UPS —- 8PM GAME!

And for our new time we will start it off with a question about the film “Miracle.” Until I see you again, have a wonderful weekend my friends. DG 🙂

For the first time, we had Herding Cats with a full squad… Despite this, they seemed to hold 2nd place for the entirety of the game to Anderson Cooper? I Hardly Know Her, who sat in the top spot throughout the night (Herding Cats was audibly upset after each and every score update too haha)! Before we jump into the final results, I’d like to say that I was astounded at how few teams knew who sculpted Mt. Rushmore! Such a famous landmark, and the name is very unique too! Gutzon Borglum! I’m hoping my 10 time repetition of this name will help you in future trivia competitions so you don’t miss this one again. You can thank me later 😉 Also, I’d like to reiterate that I was the only one in the room who knew that Tenacious D won a Grammy for “The Last in Line”, the Dio tribute song. All this smack talk I’m doing is hopefully building up to the day where I’m able to join you all on the field of battle and match my wits with ya! Maybe this can happen during the offseason; we’ll see. Anyway…. Apart from those couple questions, nothing seemed too terrifyingly tough tonight for the crowd, though we were stacked with mostly veteran teams tonight. The final question proved to be extremely difficult; it essentially turned into a “guess a northern European country” for most teams. By golly, one team managed to snipe the answer, and they ended up winning the game. Congratulations to Herding Cats with what I believe is their first victory? I could be wrong but either way, a huge grats out to you guys! 2nd place was Anderson Cooper? I Hardly Know Her. 3rd place tonight was a special finish for Axl’s Doghouse 2.0 who FINALLY after playing with us for over a year now have placed into the money! A huge congratulations out to all our top teams tonight! We’ll be back next week, same time, same place. Until then! ;-)1st Place: Herding Cats
2nd Place: Anderson Cooper?
3rd Place: Axl’s Doghouse 2.0Next week’s category: Veterinary Medicine

The Cellar Door – Frederick, MD

Man, so many surprises in the top 3 three tonight! You all did more slippin’ and slidin’ than a Prius with summer tires in the middle of an ice storm!

It was fun to watch teams be surprised by ending up in the top 3 at random points throughout the night. hehe. Our final might have been about a chilly location, but the answers were coming in hot.

It was Caviar who were apparently discussing just these islands today (Creepy, no?) who took 3rd. 2nd went to the indomitable Team Wednesday and 1st- no big surprise there- Grab a Straw, you Suck! Think they are going to change their team name so they don’t have to hear the You suck chant anymore 😉

Next week we will start with WWF finishing moves … hopefully not a show and tell question.

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD

It was definitely an exciting finish for our game of live trivia tonight at The Tavern.

I had some teams get back in the top 3 spots that I haven’t seen for a few weeks. Making a NICE move after the final question with a 24 point swing and going from 5th to 3rd was Moving Forward!! Getting the final right and holding onto 2nd tonight(I’ve felt so bad because they’ve been in the top 3 before the final question, then missing it and finishing 4th or 5th for a few weeks now), Team Griffindor!! Tonight’s 1st place winner had first from after the puzzle page til the end(although they had a kinda rough 4th round, so they only had a 3 point lead by the final question), I Just Quizzed In My Pants!!

Have fun with this… They chose the WGN networks show “Wrestling with Death” for next weeks winners choice question, so set your dvr’s and back to The Tavern next Wednesday night for LIVE TRIVIA!!

Putter’s Pub – New Market, MD

Another great trip to the links tonight with live trivia at Putters’ Pub at West Winds Golf Course in New Market!

We had a blast discussing everything from Don Quixote to Tenacious D! Strangers Have the Best Candy took the top spot by just a hair while Pinehurst Winers were strategically bumped down to third by 19th hole coming from behind to take second!

Hopefully next week’s Winners’ Choice category won’t make you more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs – it’s Southern Phrases and Expressions!

See ya next week in New Market!

Revolution Bar – Fairfax, Virginia

Things have started heating up the Revolution Bar recently! New teams have made their presence known and are starting to shake things up!

Highlights of the night:

In “Put-That-Away!”: Always good to see team taking the rules seriously enough to report suspicious behavior. That said, when the person being suspicious is a personal friend of the host, they get called out over the mic, even if they were only checking basketball scores: rules are rules!

In “There-Are-Sculptors-and-There-Are-Sculptors”: Mention David and everyone immediately knows: Michelangelo. Ask who designed Mt Rushmore, and you get blank stares. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t have gotten that one either guys.

In “You-Mean-They-Own-MORE-Islands?”: The final proved to be a doozy tonight; I’ve never heard of the Faroe islands, and if I hadn’t spelled it for some teams I’d wager I’d see an Egypt or two. That said, Denmark slipped past most teams.

In third place tonight, a newer team: The Sleuth! Good job guys!

In second place, no stranger to the podium: Mess and Jegg! Tough couple of breaks tonight guys, but way to hang tough.

In first place, striking back after a tough week last week, E=MC Hammer! Well earned win guys, congrats!

For their first round category next week, E=MC Hammer has chosen Kids Snacks for us all to study. So break out the Teddy Grahams, the Fruit Rollups, and the Dunkaroos, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,
Ian

T. J. Stone’s – Alexandria, VA

After taking a few weeks off, All the Marbles was back at T. J. Stone’s for another night of trivia.  And what a night it was for them, as they led wire-to-wire, and was also one of just two teams to come up with the correct response on the final!  Great job all around for the first win of the season.  We Came for the Beer had the full team working hard, and despite missing the final, managed to hold on to second place.  Trivia Newton John jumped up four spots by also coming up with Denmark, as they took third for the second straight week.  Next week, our game begins with the category of “T. J. Stone’s.”  We’ll see what that actually means next week.  ~ Matt

We had a reserved game of live trivia here tonight in response to a local tragedy suffered by the fine folks here in Middletown, so our hearts and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Claire Knight.

We had a tie-breaker tonight between two teams, and your results of the game are as follows:

1) Fat Kids are Hard to KIdnap
2) Stupid Sexy Flanders
3) Southpaw Fish

Your first category for next week is Game of Thrones: The Books.
