Vermont and the almighty Steagles! Pour House Pub Trivia Monday recap!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Monday brought you five great games of live trivia!
My favorite quote about the Steagles comes from one of the players (Paraphrasing from memory): “When you put together those two depleted teams, you just got twice as many lousy football players!”
I wonder if it inspired any smaller Pour House teams to join together tonight? Read on for recaps!
Del Ray Pizza – Alexandria, VA
You can tell spring is on the way just by the change in attire and attitudes as everyone had a bit more “spring” in their step at DRP tonight!
Here are the results of tonight’s spine tingling action:
High School Prom in 1st
HR PuffNStuff in 2nd
That’s Right Bitches in 3rd
Join me again next week, where our first category will be Magic: The Gathering!

Be Prepared! That’s the motto (or is it the slogan?) of the Boy Scouts Club. It also always makes me think of Scar from The Lion King, but oh well. Tonight we had lots of people who were apparently very prepared for this game, with several teams having extremely high scores throughout the game. In the end, only two points separated the top three spots with several teams right on their heels. However, nobody was prepared for tonight’s final question and it completely wiped the field and left nearly everybody wishing they had bet low to snag the win.
In the end our third place team was Thinkers and Dreamers, who found themselves only two points away from a victory. Our second place team, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, held the lead throughout the majority of the game before ceding the lead to another team at the end of the final round. Tonight’s winners managed to sneak into the lead right before the end, something I’ve seen them do several times before. Congrats to Cotton Candy on a narrow but well deserved victory! Next week we start out with Islands of the World, as Cotton Candy gets back to their Geography categories they usually prefer, so be prepared for that! Also, happy St. Patrick’s Day everybody!
Until next time,
-Chad
il Forno – Frederick, MD
Tonight was a special night as tonight was my mother’s birthday and she and my father decided to join in on the trivia action! I believe this is the first time they’ve played at il Forno since I took over hosting duties so it was definitely something rare! Happy birthday to her and I hope she has a safe trip to Cancun tomorrow!
Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure the duo of her and my father got last place in the game tonight. Despite her birthday, teams refused to hold back. Latrilla started off very strong tonight, holding the top spot at half time with an absurd 93 points (that’s the most I’ve seen in a while). A great showing tonight by some of our other regulars, Much More Deeper and MC, who stayed in the top 3 for a majority of the game. I believe this is a first as well, Latrilla and the Mossy Banks (notoriously poor sports trivia players) were the ONLY TEAM TO GET THE 2 POINT BONUS ON THE BASEBALL QUESTION! It was quite amazing. Latrilla doing all kinds of nasty tonight.
The unfortunate part of the game for them was the final question. The final proved to truly be a difficult one. We were looking for a state. I had over ten teams tonight, and I got over ten different answers. The least populous state from which a president was born in. I got Kentucky, New Hampshire, Missouri, Ohio, Hawaii, Maine, but only one team came up with the correct response. That team was a team called Surprise Me, who truly did surprise everyone. They jumped up from I believe 6th place to take down the win tonight! Congratulations guys! Another unfortunate, they won’t be back next week. Because they will not be here next week, they said their Winner’s Choice category would be Matthew Frost’s Choice.
So Matthew Frost, one of Pour House Trivia’s head writers, will be coming up with a question and a category for next Monday’s game! Check the website on Monday the 23rd to see what your category will be! 2nd place tonight went to Latrilla. 3rd went to MC. Great game tonight. Be safe tomorrow, it’s St. Patty’s Day! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. Hopefully I’ll see you guys next week! Until then, later 😉
1st Place: Surprise Me!
2nd Place: Latrilla & the Mossy Banks
3rd Place: MC
Next week’s category: Matthew Frost’s Choice
Roast House Pub – Frederick, MD
Tonight was a wild game of Pour House trivia! Even with it being so gorgeous out, my teams couldn’t stay away, and things got good and crazy very quickly!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Easiest-Question-Ever”: Let’s face it: giving “The Steagles” was a HUGE giveaway, and the teams who knew it out without that clue could not have raised more hell. Guys, if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. I DON’T WRITE THE QUESTIONS! Yeesh! 😛
In “Shot-In-The-Dark”: Based on the low wagers on the Not Birds but Bees question, this was a total guess for most teams. For some it paid off, for others not so much!
In “Hardest-Question-Ever”: Not a single team got the final tonight. We had lots of Arkansas, Indiana, Hawaii, etc. But not a single team could pull Vermont. How would this affect the standings?
In third place tonight, Spring Break Frederick! Good game guys!
In second place, after battling back from an early deficit, Better Late than Pregnant! Way to hang tough guys!
In first place, taking the lead at the end, and holding it through the final, Multiple Scorgasms! Congratulations guys, great game!
For their round one category next week, Multiple Scoregasms has chosen the Solar System for their round one category, so study up and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,
Ian
Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA
We welcomed a few new teams to Spider Kelly’s on Monday, and once again, they were very few empty chairs as the night began with 12 teams. After a relatively innocuous first half, Eleven is a Prime Number jumped into the lead during a third round that caused most of our teams to stumble. They held the lead heading into the final question, but could not maintain the momentum, and dropped to third place after missing the final. A few teams did come up with the correct answer of Vermont, including the Rocket Surgeons, who took second, and Unadjusted For Inflation, who took home their second straight win. We’ll start next week with a question on “Mad Men”.
