Twinkies, pennies and so much more from Pour House Pub Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday had nine games of live trivia, covering everything from the penny to the Twinkie!
Check it out to see what went down!
Applebees – Frederick, MD
Trivia at Applebee’s is always fun, we have great teams, sriracha wings (which are amazing!) and it’s just always a great atmosphere. Today’s game at Applebee’s started with a question about classic toys. Turns out the opening question was about one of the most classic toys, the etch-a-sketch. I also learned that the original twinkie flavor was banana, something that all the teams seemed to know. We also had a halftime page that was basically dedicated to Katy Perry, since a certain writer/host can’t seem to get enough of her for whatever reason. Also, I thought it was neat that Ichiro is the only person to hit an inside-the-park home run (also called a little league home run) in an all-star game. Especially since the question talked about modern ballparks being smaller, so you’d think that would have happened a long time ago, not ~10 years ago.
Starting the second half with a question about H. Jon Benjamin (the voice of Sterling Archer on the FX show Archer) was a gimme for a few teams, but others definitely struggled on that, having never heard of him. However, the following question about Juice Newton showed that the tables can flip really fast in a trivia game. In the fourth round the ‘velvet’ question caused a bit of change among the standings because only one team remembered Mel Torme, and only one team knew the Velvet Revolution was in Czechoslovakia. I also thought the question about Jet Blue flying to Havana was a clever one, as teams don’t usually think Caribbean/Central America when they hear North America (even though they SHOULD, as it all counts!).
In the end, however, the final question didn’t cause any shifts in the standings, with Rent-A-Swag coming back and taking third after starting the game effectively down nine points to the field. Second place went to the Thundercats, who were holding a sizable lead until the fourth round caused them to stumble and drop into second. Winning tonight’s game, returning from their travels abroad was Dalek Dance Party. That’s quite a way to return, I’ll say, congrats! Next week we start with a question about the book/movie Paper Towns, which is something I personally don’t know anything about, but according to Dalek Dance Party is very good, so who knows. Either way, I’ll see you all again next week!
Until next time,

Coming soon!
What if I told you that going to a Juice Newton concert was a sort of childhood bucket list dream of mine? Well, it never happened but I will say I might have had a thirst for Juice in the 7th grade.
And tonight’s game certainly brough up those old, bottled up feelings! Fortunately, I was able to contain myself long enough to crank out some trivia questions for a 10 team crew at Barefoot Bernies this evening in Hagerstown, MD. As we dig deeper into the Summer Fling 2015, things are taking shape and teams are eyeballing the end of summer blast we throw down in September!
Tonight’s set was a fun balance of some easy ones and some monsters – Twinkies and 47 Ronin come to mind. And what’s up with phasing out pennies? I’m with the zinc industry: keep em! That was our final question tonight that helped decide our Top 3 leader board for tonight’s contest.
Thanks for coming out tonight everyone! I hope you had a good time. Let’s do it again next week. The fine folks over at Slapsgiving have asked us all to brush up on our 1980’s R&B AUDIO chops, as that will be the first category next Wednesday night. Until then, be well, and thank you again for playing 🙂 DG
2nd Place: Jomama Bali
3rd Place: Team JanetNext week’s category: Breaking Bad
Fusion! You are anything but predictable, but the mighty ducks moment was a first.
Add in the Blue velvet serenade and some rather loud expressions of displeasure and I have to thank you yet again for keeping my Wednesdays entertaining and a helluva lot of fun. Much needed after a day on the couch with frozen broccoli – you’re much better company 😉
We even had some new faces tonight, and some new suspects in the line up for the top spots but past trends continued. The gentlemen of Fries before Guys refused to leave without a coupon so they picked themselves up a 3rd place, and will be back next week to try and get back to that top spot! 2nd went to yet another all male team- League of Nerds! Thank god our 1st place team was almost all women- we can’t be that out numbered! Wednesday! Back at it again now that Bill and Diane are back from the vacation of my dreams 😉 We will start off next week with a first category of Kitchen gadgets, not bedroom gadgets. And no, I don’t want to hear about the grey cross over area in that!

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD
It was a nail biter of a game at The Tavern tonight! There was a great team turnout and everyone came with their “A” game as well.
There were tons of ties all throughout the game, so it was no surprise to me that even after the final question, I had to use a tie-breaker to find out who tonight’s game winner would be! Making a nice move from 5th to 3rd after the final question was a new team that was here for only their second game ever, Suck It Trebek! Unfortunately losing the tie-breaker, but still finishing 2nd was Olney The Lonely!! They had to work for it tonight, so welcome back to the top of the mountain Team Gryffindor!!!
They ended up choosing D.O.T.A. 2 (Defense Of The Ancients 2) for all you P.C. video game fans, so study up and come check out the fun we have here next Wednesday night at The Tavern!!

Tonight’s game at Revolution Bar was a quick and dirty round of Pour
House Trivia!
Between a never-ending slew of That’s What She Said jokes from E=MC
Hammer, feigned ignorance from GT80 Sauce, and air guitar solos with
Mess and Jegg, I was getting the business from all sides tonight! Even
Tim our trusty bartender was pulling no punches tonight!
The final was a clean sweep so the podium was pretty much set.
In third place tonight, GT80 Sauce!
In second place tonight, Mess and Jegg!
In first place tonight, E=MC Hammer!
Congrats everyone on a great game! Next week’s winner’s choice
