Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday!

Tuesday had some heart breakers! Check out the recap here for all the teams who were ready for this battle and who was driven to drink!

Whole Foods in Ashburn, Va

A tough night of Trivia as our regular teams went back and forth with points keeping up with the tough trivia we had to offer! The last question meant everything and changed the game up completely-and Not So Little Women took first!

1st Not So Little Women
2nd The Dark Side
3rd Just Two
First category next week will be FABRICS. See you then!

Tuesdays game at Zepheira Sports Bar Started off great for everyone. The scores were close and the top 3 were shuffling around by a point or two. Then round 3 and 4 happened and just crushed everyone! The questions were a LOT tougher in the second half and it seemed to come down to who got the least amount of questions wrong to decide our top 3 teams! With a very up and down game, Cato was 3rd, The Avengers took 2nd, and for a second week in a row, Sanford & Son were our 1st place winners!! They picked the show “Mike Tyson Mysteries” for next weeks winners choice, so study up and come out for some fun with us next Tuesday at Zepheira!!   ~  Jon J

A tough night of trivia with a few particularly brutal questions – who would have guessed that a box of crayons could stump the field?  And since when is “pine” a whole family of different trees?  (It really is, though – Pinaceae!)  Some teams decided to shift gears and play for laffs – no, Dustin Hoffman and Mark Wahlberg did not co-star in “Debbie Does Mahky Mahk”.  The night was capped off with high drama at the finish — two teams that held 1st and 2nd place from the start both bet big and missed the Final, allowing these three to vault ahead into the winner’s circle:

1st: Menace 2 Sobriety (won via tiebreaker)
2nd: Captain No-Show and the No-Talent Ass Clowns
3rd: Capitol City Goofballs
Our winners have chosen to go highly specific for their Winner’s Choice category – next week we’ll kick things off by remembering the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates.

Now that was one rollercoaster of a game here at Cugini’s in Poolesville, scores were up, down, and all over the place by the time it was said and done. It was a semi-precious metal that was the downfall of a lot of the contenders in the game. Here are the results:

Drunk N Disorderly in 1st

Team Janet in 2nd

WWBS in 3rd

Our first category for next week is “Netflix Original Programming” ~ Ronnie

Another summer night here at Quincy’s. On a day where it felt like the top temperature was well over 100 degrees, it was nice to cool down at the end of the day with some AC and some trivia! Glad to see teams returning for more summer trivia. REMEMBER there is a tournament at the end of the summer for the teams that have been playing and winning consistently, hopefully YOU can join us!
Tonight’s game saw a bulk of the teams stuffed together near the top, only a few points separating the lead from the next 5 spots. At the half, we didn’t even have a clear leader as there was a tie between two of our teams. Round 4 gave us the most separation, with our 3 Clues One Word question.
On the 3 Clues question, we wanted Kurt Russell’s Disney character which is also a slang term for a police man. Well, Kurt Russell is the voice of the Hound in “The Fox and the Hound” who goes by the name “copper”. That sure sounds like a slang term for a policeman, right? Well, most teams decided to ignore that clue and just guess “Bobby” for their highest wager. I’ve been around Disney for a long time and the only Bobby I know is the annoying moron voiced by Pauly Shore in A Goofy Movie. I think the veteran teams should know better than to play so confidently without having heard of one of the clues. There are legit over 100 slang terms for police, seemed odd to cling to one and put all the marbles there. You can see these slang terms here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_police-related_slang_terms
With that fiasco in Round 4, The Love Shaqs held a strong lead but about 7 points going into the final question. All they’d need was a correct response. After asking the question, If We Lose turned in their response almost immediately. It was correct, jumping them into first place. The next 2 minutes would be dedicated to seeing if Love Shaqs could come up with a correct response. In defense of the teams, “Spirit of Ecstasy” is a pretty specific name given to the hood ornament on Rolls-Royce cars. If you don’t know it right away, you probably won’t figure it out. Turns out that was correct. Only 2 teams getting it right, they answered almost immediately.
With that, If We Lose wins the game. 2nd place to Love Shaqs and a jump into the $$$ for Oranges who got the final correct. We’re back in 1 week for more summer trivia. Should be August next time we meet. August is the final month of the Summer Fling so make sure you get in as MUCH as you can! The points and the practice are fairly necessary to tournament success. Thanks again, see you in a week!
1st Place:     If We Lose The Terrorists Win
2nd Place:    The Love Shaqs
3rd Place:     Oranges are Not the Only Fruit
Next week :     The Dept. of the Interior

Tonight’s game opened up with a question about the classic comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, this time asking for the team that the Dolphins faced in the Super Bowl at the end of the film. A few teams did manage to get this one, which was the Philadelphia Eagles.  I liked the crayon question in the first round too, as it asked for the four colors in the original 64-pack that are four letter names.  Several teams got gray and blue, but gold and plum were a bit tougher, and nobody got all four correct.

The audio question for today asked for a word in common in three song titles. The word we were looking for was the word ‘Last’, which teams did pretty well on.  Halftime asked teams to identify TV shows based on logos, and to match NCAA schools to the sport of which they are the reigning champions.  In the second half we had a few tough questions between the botany and 3 clues/1 word questions.  The botany question asked for the family for several types of trees, which is the pine family.

The 3 clues question had a case of everybody jumping the gun, going early on the first two clues , which were the name of a Disney animated character voiced by Kurt Russell, and a British slang term for a police officer.  Everybody gave me Bobby, which IS slang term for sure, but isn’t a Kurt Russell voiced character. The answer was actually ‘copper’, which is the fox from ‘The Fox and the Hound’.

Tonight’s final question asked about Corporate Logos, asking for the company that has used the sculpture ‘The Spirit of Ecstasy’ for over 100 years. I was impressed by how many teams got the correct answer of Rolls Royce. Third place tonight went to The Patriotic Orioles, and second went to Black Steel. Taking the victory on the strength of a late surge, congrats goes to Fractured but Whole! Next week we open with a question about Restaurants of Downtown Frederick, so good luck! I’ll see you all then!

Until next time,

Another game is in the books, as more of those crucial Summer Fling points get handed out. We had some wandering Veteran team sightings, and more than a few stumpers this week!

We were geared up and ready for a game-changing final… and then a last-second guess kept the scoreboard the same.
Third Place: Boo Boo Kitty
Second Place: Poovey Farms
First Place: FNQ
Welcome back, FNQ! They took this one down, and selected, “Positron Emission Tomography” as next week’s first category. Get to your researching, and I’ll see you next week!

Highlights of the Night:

In “It’s-Gonna-Be-Bad-I-Know-It”: I am not at all looking forward to the Lethal Weapon TV show. I love the movies, but somehow I don’t think the show is gonna be good. I’ve never heard of the actor playing Riggs, and Damon Wayans Sr as Murtagh just doesn’t seem right somehow…since most of the teams missed this one I expect they’re not too excited either :S

In “Not-The-Brightest-Bunch-of-Crayons”: I’ll give you that the crayon question tonight was definitely a tough one. However, when Tickle Me Pink is one of the most well known colors, can’t feel too bad for those of you that put that. That said, I honestly couldn’t believe Aqua wasn’t on there! Definitely tricky!

In “Were-These-Not-Giveaways?”: If Pet Sounds wasn’t a giveaway clue, Wouldn’t it Be Nice surely should have been; I dunno if I’d agree with the second best rock and roll album of all time, but that’s still certainly one of the most well known ones, and Wouldn’t it Be Nice is a classic! Come on people!

After a dicey final left the standings relatively unchanged, we had our podium.

In third place tonight, Axl’s Doghouse!

In second place tonight, Uncle Jack!

In first place tonight, Beer Pressure!

Great game everyone! Next week we’ll kick things off with a fun but morbid category: Triple 50/50 Celebrities: Dead or Alive! Get studying, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,

Every now and again we (unintentionally) toss out a set of trivia that leans on the easier side. Tuesday night’s trivia game WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE SETS!

Downright chaos my friends – in a good way. of course! But whew! That one had sweat beads on all of our noodles! And in spite of the fact that my dear friends of La La bar trivia night won’t hesitate to stink eye me and growl at me when it comes to the subtle nuances between conifers and Evergreens, I still love ya 🙂

What a night of trivia huh? That was a game for sure! The tough ones that come to mind:

  1. the aforementioned pine/ conifer/ evergreen fiasco! Oh yes…this was ON!
  2. wait…PINK was not chosen over PLUM in the Crayola 64 Box – I’m going to start a movement
  3. And that fina…whew…Rolls-Royce for the win!

Good games tonight y’all! With some strategic wagering and a dag on awesome finish we had TOP that looked like this:

And that my friends is a darn good game of trivia night in the books! Next week kick it off with NETFLIX SHOWS. Until then, have a great week and I will see you soon :0 DG
