Try Thursday Trivia On For Size!

New PHT Logo

We crossed the 300-team mark again this past Thursday, as 308 teams played Pour House Trivia at 24 locations. Leading the way in attendance was a 29-teamer at Aslin Beer Co, followed by Olde Mother Brewing (25 teams), Solace Outpost and metrobar (21 teams each), and Mustang Sally Brewing with 20 more!

FIRST ROUND:

Teams cruised through the first round with stops in Oklahoma City and Salt Lake City, Three Clues about the beaver, and the name origins of video game company Sega. A dozen perfect scores were earned in this round.

SECOND ROUND:

We went meta with the audio question, which played three songs with questionable titles: Where is the Love? (Black Eyed Peas), Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? (Rod Stewart), and What’s the Frequency, Kenneth? (R.E.M.). Other topics in the round included the Pope‘s smoky selection process, the film Up in the Air, and Hockey Hall of Famer Martin St. Louis. There were 15 perfect teams here.

HALFTIME:

Celebrities with tasty names such as Cherry Jones and Harvey Milk were featured atop the halftime page, followed by a section about pop culture vehicles. A tough page in general had an average score of 14.3, but 17 teams earned all 20 points. These were the leading scores at the halftime break:

THIRD ROUND:

The night’s toughest wagering question popped up midway through the third round:

  • Correct spelling isn’t required, but which actress was nine years old when she voiced the role of Dot in the film A Bug’s Life?
  • Bonus: This actress received two Golden Globe nominations for her role on which 21st century TV series?

From Up in the Air to Hayden Panettiere, just 12% of the field received wagering credit while only 13 teams nailed the bonus answer, Nashville. The round concluded with Instagram champion Selena Gomez and the Sikh religion. The only perfect teams in this round were Alien Bounty Hunters (Solace Outpost) and I Don’t Know (Aslin).

FOURTH ROUND:

The state of Florida was named by 18 teams from the six-point clue in Thursday’s 6-4-2. Another midpoint question featured a tough bonus opportunity:

  • Respectively located in North America, South America, and Southeast Asia, which three countries have passed legislation to legalize recreational marijuana use AND sales nationwide?

About 7.14% of the field named all three countries for bonus credit: Canada, Uruguay, and Thailand. We advertised some Colt 45 and discussed men named Lionel at the end of the round. Perfect fourth-round scores were recorded by Three Docs and Three Dudes (Lone Oak), Wayne Road Blues (Solace Outpost), Samurai Trivia Players (Bear Brick Oven), and Pringles (Bear Brick Oven). After four rounds, these were the highest scores:

FINAL QUESTION (12.66% success rate):

  • In 2011, which country became the 10th largest nation on Earth based on area, as well as the largest on its home continent?

When South Sudan became independent and drastically reduced Sudan’s total area, Algeria became the new largest country in Africa! We had another pair Perfect 21 teams this week: I Don’t Know (Aslin) and No Pressure (metrobar). The night ended with these top overall teams:
