Triskaidecagons and live trivia courtesy of Pour House Pub Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday didn’t QUITE reach triskaidecagon-level of games (that’s 13 sides) but we still had ELEVEN games of live trivia!
Check out alllll of the craziness in the recaps down below!
In tonight’s game we had a surprising come-from-behind victory, we had a few questions where the teams were split nearly 50/50 on the answers, and we found out that I don’t actually know the words to ‘America the Beautiful’ (except I DID know the ending line). We also had a tough NFL question (cue the high-fives!) and after the game we found out one of the members of That’s What You Get For Thinking knows almost every Oriole from the last ten years based solely on their faces. Talk about impressive.
Our third place team tonight was Rent-A-Swag, who made sure that I knew they were coming, even telling the bartender Corey to tell me before they arrived. In second was That’s What You Get For Thinking, who couldn’t quite build a big enough lead to secure the victory. Swooping in at the last second to steal that victory away was Dalek Dance Party, who were the only ones to get the final question correct. Congrats to you ladies! We start out next week with a question on the Civil War Confederacy, so time to bust out the old history books!
Until next time,
What a night! With it finally feeling like spring outside, Bar Louie rolled up the sides of the building (turns out they don’t just LOOK like garage doors…), letting the sounds of trivia carry into the streets. And what sounds they were! One crowd of rowdy CPA’s, having their longest day of the year, made sure everyone knew THEY were having the most fun.
Last week it was a duo of two nurses. This week it was a duo of doctors! The Medical DUOS are a threat at pub trivia night in Hagerstown’s Barefoot Bernies. In tonight’s case, it was the husband and wife crew of Cotton Candy! Nice job y’all! Makes for a good date night 🙂
Tonight’s set had some sleepers and sneakers! The leatherback sea turtle, at a whopping 800lbs was the tough answer of the night. Many got seduced by the Komodo Dragon on the reptile question.
But it was Cotton Candy’s strong knowledge of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and the elusive Prince Tuesday that launched them out into a healthy lead – which they pushed right on home FTW!
And that final shook the rest of the board up a bit. But it was Tom Sawyer that took it down. And after the slips were in, our Top leader board looked like this:
Congrat everyone! Thanks a bunch for coming out and playing this evening. Hope to see you next Wednesday night, when we begin the game with Islands of the World. Until then, have a great weekend…dg 🙂
And tonight makes it three in a row for My Favorite Team, who’ve just been ON FIRE lately! My Favorite Team had quite a commanding lead going into the final tonight, up 9 points on the field.
The next closest team tonight was Axl’s Doghouse 2.0 who had a very good showing tonight, despite a small hiccup on a reptile question. That probably wasn’t the worst of the night, but more on that later. MFT locked up the victory with a correct response on the final but the 2nd and 3rd place finishes made this game quite interesting. So, Axl had 2nd place going into the final BUT they wagered conservatively and ended up tied in 3rd after the question. Knock Knock jumped ahead and took 2nd place with a correct response. A great finish for only playing with us for 2 weeks now, hope to see them become a serious contender in the near future!
3rd place was a LOCK between Just the Tip and Axl’s Doghouse. Axl’s Doghouse were kicking themselves over not betting more on the final (they DID in fact get it correct) but sometimes that’s just how it unfolds. Just the Tip WOULD have been a decisive 3rd place with 1 more point ANYWHERE in the game, and the halftime page may have been a place where they’d wished they’d double checked their work.
Just the Tip answered “Dr. Seuss” for “The Cat in the Hat”, not even thinking, and it cost them 1 point which would’ve eliminated a tie breaker. BUT ANYWAY, we did have a tie so here’s how it turned out. 2 teams who feel they made costly mistakes, one team to be redeemed by this single question. When was Hallmark founded? Axl’s Doghouse says 1945, Just the Tip says 1962. Hallmark was founded in 1910 and AXL’S DOGHOUSE takes down 3rd place with a tie breaker victory over Just the Tip.
Rough night for some, great night for our top team, My Favorite Team. Lots of questions to be answered in weeks to come. Is MFT a trivia dynasty on the rise? Have we found some new contenders in Knock Knock? Will Axl’s Doghouse and Just the Tip sharpen their game and potentially take down the win in the near future? These questions will certainly be answered before the season is over. Join us next week to see it all unfold. Until then 😉
1st Place: My Favorite Team
2nd Place: Knock Knock
3rd Place: Axl’s Doghouse 2.0
Next week’s category: Archaeologists
It was an intimate game of live trivia in the underground tonight, which really just means that no one was yelling expletives and everyone knew each other’s names when they were trash talking!
It’s always a good night in Cellar, and tonight was no exception. I loved watching the top teams battle to recover from a few tough questions in the third round that tried to bring our heavy hitters low.
In 3rd at the end of the dance was 2nd place- so close! 2nd went to League of Nerds! If they just had a bit more confidence in themselves they could have taken it but nope., they left the door open to Constantly Changing Team Name to take that 1st place spot in spectacular fashion! Nice job all.
I will see you next week for a fun first category of Famous Overdoses. Please don’t do practical research on that one.
The weather’s heating up, and so is the competition at Memories Charcoal House!!
We had a killer game of pub quiz tonight. The patio was open, the beer was flowing and the scoreboard had some serious shifts throughout the game.
In third place after a killer final, jumping ahead in the ranks was Men & Pausers! In second, just ahead of them, making an equally jaw-dropping comeback was Special K!! But our top dogs of the evening, the team to beat: Experienced Virgins!! Their choice of first category next week? WINE!!
See you next Wednesday!
What a great turn-around finish to tonight’s game of pub trivia at the Tavern in Olney, MD!
I had one team holding the 1st place lead from round 2 on, and then the final question changed EVERYTHING!! Such a heart breaker to watch this team go from 1st to 3rd after the final, but 3rd tonight was Olney The Lonely! Moving up to 2nd was Team Griffindor! And having a rough start but staying the course and moving into 1st after the final was I Just Quizzed My Pants!!
They picked 2015 Baltimore Orioles for next Wednesdays winners choice category, and I hope to see all my “prodigal son” teams back in here soon!! I’ll see everyone next week!!
~ Jon J
The weather’s getting warmer and that means great things are brewing with live trivia at Putters’ Pub in New Market! Rumor has it we may be moving to the patio in a week or two – you’ll have to come by and check it out!
Tonight we discussed Bartholomew Cubbins drawing triskaidecagons as part of his job at the “These Things Really Exist” department, Ethel Merman belting out tunes while riding a leatherback sea turtle, and playing games of war with Lizzie Borden (I wouldn’t recommend it :-P)
Strange Winer took the top spot after dominating all night with Deep in Thought taking second and 19th Hole in third. Next week’s winners’ choice category is a throwback to the old days of MTV with a Triple 50/50 question. I’ll give you three people, you’ll have to tell me if they’re Dead or Canadian! I promise there won’t be any dead Canadians on the list 😛
See ya next week!
– Eric 😛
Things have really been heating up these past few weeks; newer teams have been coming out regularly and it’s made things interesting!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Tough-Winner’s-Choice”: This week’s winner’s choice category turned out to be a doozy; I guess TGIF wasn’t as popular as expected!
In “Big-Fat-Reptiles”: It looks like a few too many people put stock in the Anaconda movie; only one team landed on turtle but went with Galapagos tortoise.
In “Same-Wavelengths”: The final saw everyone in the same literary universe, but it came down to that crucial coin flip: Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. The answer made all the difference.
In third place, Team David, their first podium appearance! Good job guys!
In second place, Mess and Jegg! Way to hang tough and make it a close game!
In first place, E=MC Hammer! Congratulations guys, great game!
For their round one, question one, E=MC Hammer has gone with Kids Games! I think there may be a pointed message there. Anyway, study up and we’ll see you next time!
Well, even if the Capitals are a disappointment (which they are EVERY April), you can always trust that we’ll have Pour House Trivia to cheer you up. The usual crowd shuffled in, and the game could not have been any closer between our top two teams. Did You Miss Us? pulled into the lead in the third round, but a bold (or do I mean foolish?) maneuver on the 6-4-2 meant that they gave up the lead to the B-58s, who played perfectly the rest of the way for their second win in a row! DYMU took second, with We Came For the Beer jumping SIX spots on the final to take third. Next week, we’ll begin with a question on U.S. National Parks! ~ Matt
What the “Huck” happened at Valley Grill tonight? PHT is what happened and it was Drunk Savants that jumped out in front and never looked back.
Here are the results of tonight’s game:
Drunk Savants in 1st
Stupid Sexy Flanders in 2nd
Boom! Goes the Dynamite in 3rd
Our first category for next week is Renaissance Art!
