Tilting at windmills on Christmas Eve-Eve with Pour House Trivia!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday packed the house with live trivia on Christmas Eve eve! We tilted at windmills with literary pal Don Quixote, feasted on some cookies and generally had some shenanigans! Check out the games, would you please?

Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA

One last game before Christmas, as we welcomed 12 teams into Capitol City Brewing on Tuesday.  A tight game in the first half gave way to an interesting final round, where we had an unexpectedly difficult belly-dancing question (I didn’t think I would ever utter that sentence…)  Anyway, Korner Bar snuck into the lead in round four, and when they were the ONLY team to get the final, they easily took down the win!  Ebony and Ivory used some smart wagering to jump three spots on the final for second, with Oh Jenna, Where Art Thou? in third.  Next week begins with a question on the Washington Redskins of the 1980s!  ~ Matt

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

Well, yet another Christmas edition of Tuesday night live trivia at Champions in the books! So many cookies over the years, it makes my heart race and my blood sugar jump 😉 It was a fun game to watch as 18 teams battled it out for bragging rights and some extra stuffing in their stocking! A couple pf traveling teams really kept it interesting, and Clever Team Name kept us honest with too many reindeer pulling the sleigh; they would have taken 3rd but they gave way to Jungle Fever who started out our pyramid of cheer. 2nd went to Skeeter- they called in reinforcements from North Carolina! The Cinderella story of the night was the top place finishers, Damn You Hugh Jackman! For so long they have struggled to get that top billing spot, and I’ll be damned if they didn’t lead for the majority of the game tonight. A good final and they wrapped that present up tight. I will see you next week for our last game of 2014 – we will start off with pharmacy Sig Codes. Have fun with that one. Merry Christmas to you and yours! ~Samantha

Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD

We had a full buffet of tasty Xmas treats to enjoy while we played our game here at Poolesville, yum!

It took a Barbie tie-breaker to settle first and second, with Lightfoot landing 1st and MoMo 2nd respectively. Nevermore hung in there till the end, and with a correct final answer took down 3rd. Again I wish you all the merriest of Christmas fun and shenanigans, and I will definitely see you here at Cugini’s before we ring in the New Year! Our first category will be 1960s TV. ~ Ronnie

Dilligad Pub – Frederick, MD

We had another awesome night of pub quiz at Dilligad’s Pub!! With the holiday just around the corner, everyone had a little extra cheer to bring to the game! Our third place prize winners were TBH!! In second just ahead of them was Black Steele! And in first, I Took the Liberty of Fertilizing Your Caviar!! Their choice of first category next week?? Pittsburgh Steelers!! ~Torie

Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD

We had a few more teams than usual show up at Perryville on Christmas Eve (Eve), but the more the merrier!! From the get go, a new team of contenders proved they were the real deal. We learned that sometimes you really do need pictures to go with the words (looking at you, Linus), and sometimes it really helps if that picture is in color, as was the case with our puzzle page. There was a sharp divide between the Harry Potter fans and fans of Asian Geography (who knew??), but EVERYONE has a different idea on where fruit cake comes from. As the game waned, our front-runners pulled ahead. In third going into the final, the Pomeranians made a bold move and elected to wager nothing, the only team to do so. When the brutally tough final was finished, that proved to be a wise decision, as no one got it right. After a tie breaker between veterans If We Only Had a Brain and newcomers Udderly Nuts, the vets settled for third. Congrats to the first timers, grabbing up second place! But the true spoils of war (picking the first category) went to the Pomeranians. After many weeks of an internal power struggle among team members, one teammate was finally allowed his constantly suggested and eternally shot down category: “Throw Momma From the Train“!! See you next week, -Nick

Markham’s – Bethesda, MD

Merry Christmas Eve-eve everyone! We had a nice spirited night of live trivia at Markhams, as house power teams and new teams alike braved the cold and the rain for our holiday-ish round of Pour House Trivia! Highlights of the Night: In “This-One-Might-Be-Too-Easy”: 80% of the teams tonight got 20s on the Puzzle page! We’ll call it an early Christmas present 😉 In “All-Over-The-Map”: We had 5 different answers from 5 different teams on the Literary Characters question. Everything from Ivanhoe to Pygmalion to King Aurthur to Count of Monte Cristo to the correct answer Don Quixote! At least you all were thinking and named good literary classics! In “Gimme-a-Second-to-Finish-the-Question”: One team ran up during the final before I had even finished reading it! Holy Speed Demons, Batman! Would their hubris get the better of them? In third place tonight, the Snowmen! To their credit, they started out with only one team member during round one. Way to hang tough! In second place, after leading the whole night they went defensive on the final, the Chronic Underachievers! Great game guys, well done! In first place, the only team to get the final correct, was in fact the team that sped up before I could finish, the Raging Owls! Congratulations guys; I don’t know why or how you know that, but good job! For their round one category next week, the Owls have chosen Hair Metal! So come get your glam on at Markham’s next week! Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Joyous Kwanzaa, and all that jazz! We’ll see you here on New Year’s Eve-eve! Until then, Ian

Monkey La La – Frederick, MD

Monkey La La in Frederick, MD was host to some super shenanigans Tuesday night for sure! We partied down on Christmas Eve Eve like nobody’s bid-ness! Yeah we had some tech issues but that only allowed us to stay a touch longer so I could engineer work-arounds 🙂 (And thanks for being patient with me on this front everyone). The bevis were flowing and the Ugly Sweaters were lighting up the room! Make sure you have a look at our winners below! Things certainly got outlandish at times and we busted some boundaries for sure…but hey its Tuesday Trivia night at La La – not for the faint of heart!

Just cuz we party, don’t mean we don’t bring the trivia! Tuesday’s game was intense! And a nail biter all the way through to the end! It seriously was anyone’s game! I’d like to congratulate our Top 3 on a game very well played! Our winner, STDB, had her normal teammate out of town for XMAS business, and so she recruited some newbies and showed them what the #1 Spot feels like at trivia night! Awesome work STDB! Here is a few pics of our Top 3 after some smiles and craziness…

Thanks everyone for playing trivia with us Tuesday night! That was definitely a game to remember! And…REMEMBER…we ARE ON AND POPPIN FOR NEXT TUESDAY as well! This will be the final trivia night of 2014! Maybe we should do a saurkraut buffet for some good luck 🙂 Either way, it will be a New Years Eve Eve Trivia Party extravaganza! And for our first question, we will start off with “AUDIO – Name that Rodney Dangerfield Movie!” Sounds like a fun one!

Until then, i will leave you with some shots of our finalists from the Monkey La La Ugly Sweater contest 2014! This too was a nail biter! In the end, however, we had a COLORFUL COLLECTION of Ugly Sweaters that certainly made us all cringe in delightful admiration, envy and awe…with a splash of “WTF!” LOL…Good stuff everyone!
