Thursday Trivia Shall Not Perish From the Earth!

We opened the month of November with 117 teams playing Pour House Trivia across 15 venues:

FIRST ROUND:

Thursday’s opening round topics included Scrooge McDuck, the dwarf planet Pluto, and this current comic book film:

Venom Film

Only 13% of our teams tacked on the final bonus points of the first round by knowing that Michelle Williams portrays the role of Anne in the film “Venom”.  That was the only sticking point for most of the field, as nine teams ran the table with 36 points in the opening stanza.

SECOND ROUND:

Thursday’s audio question featured clips from three “Long” songs: “Long Train Runnin’” by the Doobie Brothers, “A Long December” by Counting Crows, and “How Long” by Charlie Puth.  Falling on the more difficult side, only seven teams picked up bonus points by knowing the titles of all three songs.  Later, we asked about the mathematical constant ‘e’ (~2.718) and the recent achievements of this future Hall of Fame quarterback:

Brees

Only two teams swept the second round: Washington Foreskins (Bunker Sports Cafe) and We Are Groot (Dawg House).

HALFTIME:

Halftime went to the dogs on Thursday night, as our teams were asked to recognize ten dog breeds with two-word names.  This page yielded nine perfect scores and an overall average of 17.1 points.  Here is Thursday’s halftime leaderboard:

THIRD ROUND:

We threw it back to the 1980s to begin Thursday’s second half, as we asked our teams to “Rock This Town” and strut like the Stray Cats.  The third round also included the most difficult wagering question of the night, albeit in the seemingly innocuous category of advertising mascots.  Only 21% of our teams could name any two of the three brands represented by these characters:

Bird Mascot

That’s Sonny the Cuckoo (for Cocoa Puffs), Birdie the Early Bird (for McDonald’s), and Tux the Penguin (for Linux).  Only five teams across the board earned bonus points with three correct answers.  We closed the third round with two more difficult questions on the respective topics of nursery rhyme characters and NHL franchise relocations.  As a result, the only team to notch a perfect third round score was We Are Not Going to Be Suck This Year (Art’s Tavern).

FOURTH ROUND:

After a malicious third round, the game eased up a bit on our teams as we began the final round with a three-part question on film titles which contain nationalities: “The English Patient”, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, and “The Mexican”.  We continued with a question regarding this mythological creature:

Griffin

After strolling down the Champs-Elysees to Place Charles de Gaulle, we saw six teams earn a perfect final round score.  Here are your highest scoring Thursday teams heading into the final question:

FINAL QUESTION  (19.2% success rate):

–> On November 19, 1950, the Chicago Historical Society celebrated a notable anniversary by displaying all five of the original copies of what document?

Just under one-fifth of our teams earned points on the final question with the correct response of the Gettysburg Address.  The date of November 19, 1950, marked exactly four score and seven years since the speech was delivered.  None of our teams earned the Perfect 21 tonight.  Here is your final Thursday leaderboard:
