Thursday Trivia Beats the Best!

New PHT Logo

A group of 24 locations hosted 282 teams for Thursday’s Pour House Trivia event, including packed houses at Solace Outpost (30 teams), Olde Mother Brewing (21 teams), and Mustang Sally Brewing (20).

FIRST ROUND:

In the first round, teams had no trouble answering questions on millionaires who passed away on the Titanic, the British inspiration behind the Jim Halpert character on The Office, and the long Stanley Cup drought for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. When the round concluded, 22 teams still had perfect scores.

SECOND ROUND:

For the audio question, only 4.6% of the field knew all three Little song titles: Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong by Spin Doctors, Dirty Little Secret by All-American Rejects, and Take a Little Ride by Jason Aldean. This somehow wasn’t even the most difficult bonus chance in the round, much less the entire game, as a question about U.S. cities came up a little later:

  • What are the two most populous cities in the state of Mississippi?

Only 3.19% of the field named both Jackson and Gulfport for bonus points. The round ended with a question about the 80s comedy film Three Amigos!. A perfect score was out of reach for our teams on Thursday.

HALFTIME:

Animated fish and answers that end in X comprised Thursday’s halftime page. The average score was 16.1 points, but 74 teams earned all 20 points! At the halftime intermission, one team had reached the 90-point mark:

THIRD ROUND:

The majority of the third round was fine for Thursday’s players. We discussed current active NFL passing yard leaders Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford, the philosopher Plato, and the play A Raisin in the Sun. However, the last question of the round played tough:

  • Which two songs were released by Beyonce after the Super Bowl to promote her upcoming country music album?

Beyonce released the songs Texas Hold’em and 16 Carriages; just over two-fifths of the field named either song, but 18% knew both titles for two extra points. There were seven perfect teams in this round.

FOURTH ROUND:

More than 87% of the field (246 total teams) earned the full six points for naming the ear from a single clue about tinnitus in Thursday’s 6-4-2. The first question of the last round wasn’t as successful, though:

  • Which Canadian province borders the state of Idaho?

This was the least successful wagering question across the four rounds, as 38% of teams correctly identified British Columbia as that province. We moved on to topics such as the song Agatha All Along from WandaVision and Three Clues about scallops before this query ended the round:

  • Which film series features 16th century Scottish warrior Connor MacLeod fighting for The Prize?
  • Bonus: With one guess, identify any of the subtitles of the three theatrical sequels of this film.

Most teams recognized the Highlander film franchise, but only 14.1% were able to remember any of its sequels, respectively subtitled The QuickeningThe Sorcerer, and Endgame. Team Pizza (Olde Mother) and I Don’t Know (Aslin) each scored all 36 possible points in this round. After four rounds, these were the highest scores:

FINAL QUESTION (17.38% success rate):

  • A realtor named Nancy Zerg made headlines 20 years ago when she won which TV game show?

Zerg was the one to take down Ken Jennings for the first time to end his record win streak on Jeopardy!. Two teams recorded a Perfect 21 on Thursday: I Don’t Know (Aslin) and Shipwrecked (Steinhardt). These were the top scores at the end of the night:
