Thursday Night Trivia Moves Pretty Fast…
Thursday night trivia featured eight venues on the docket, with half of those sporting competitive fields of more than ten teams each. In fact, one of our venues set a new record for most teams! I guess a few of you were itching for trivia after the New Year. It made for a number of close finishes, as many teams struggled a bit with a final question about everyone’s favorite 1980s movie. Well, my favorite 1980s movie… Anyway, on to the scores!
THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (76 teams across eight venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: PC Principals (Fish Market) with 175
–> Highest Score after Round 4: PC Principals (Fish Market) with 163
–> Highest First Half Score: PC Principals (Fish Market) with 88
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): A rather difficult final question meant that NO TEAM managed to answer every wagering question correctly.
–> The halftime page played to average of 18.4, with about 40% of our teams scoring a perfect 20.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (24.6% success rate):
–> After reviewing excerpts from the television broadcast of a real-life sporting event, movie buffs have determined that this film takes place on June 5, 1985. (you’ll find the answer in this blog)
Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, MD
Thursday night was a bar broom brawl – trivia style! Thanks to the fine folks and teams of Quincy’s in Gaithersburg for welcoming me for a week. It’s always a blast to host a game for you. The scores were tight and the game could have gone any direction, and it did! We kicked off innocently enough – with a little Sly Styllone-age. The first half had its spots but it was round 3 and 4 that really had a bite. Winslow Homer takes home “cameo of the night” award.
In the end it was all about Ferris Bueller and the Chicago Cubs! Only a couple teams got it and it catapulted them to the top of the ranks. Stellar game everyone! And much props to our Top 3:
First Place: Breadsticks
Second Place: Captain Awesome and the Wonder Friends
Third Place: Irish Corn Dog Fan Club
Thanks for playing Pour House Trivia tonight everyone and thank you again for letting me host a game for you. Ian will be back next Thursday and don’t forget: POST-SEASON 14 INVITATIONS (for playoffs and World Series) BEGIN GOING OUT…so don’t miss that!
And courtesy of our friends over at Breadsticks, we can all study up on The Music of Conor Oberst (he was the singer of Bright Eyes). Until then, have a great week everyone. DG 🙂
Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD
The new year brought some of my favorite faces back together for our Thursday night gathering at Champion Billiards! I do love the blend of sassy sweetness that is Champions. We had some challenges and a few teams wondering how the hell they missed that, but all in all it was a damn fine game with a great finish! What a final! I loved it. Fun to watch the faces as I announced “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.
It’s a new year, but it’s the same old to the wire shenanigans! A tiebreaker for 1st – it was college football for the win for Syn Storm! All together now… Thank you Bobby! Comfortably Dum took 2nd but they did in classic 69 style. Great to see you guys, welcome back to the dark side 😉 3rd went to Just Good Enough with their strategic strategery to hold on to the podium. Good game!
Next week’s first category: “The Dresden Files”
Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg, VA
We had our first snowfall of 2017 AND the first trivia game of 2017 for the folks down here at Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg. I hope you all had a very good New Year’s weekend. We delved into The Bible, the NBA, and some robots who are “more than meets the eye” in the first round of tonight’s game. Round two had some chemistry (pun intended), common words, and some SNL sprinkled with a little philosophy. We went back to The Bible in round 3, but then spruced it up with some art and head banging music before moving on. Final round went back to the 1980’s only to finish up with some college sports and a dash of salt. Remember that invitations to the playoffs and pub crawl are coming next week, here are the results of tonight’s action:
First Place: Indians
Second Place: Cranius Maximus
Third Place: Your Mom
Next week’s first category: “Justified”

Smoketown Brewing in Brunswick, MD
As the Snowflakes were coming down, the Trivia at Smoketown Brewing in Brunswick was heating up! We had a very fun game, with the lead being passed around as the rounds went by. It came down to the final question which was a tough one, as only two teams came up with the correct response. Here are your final standings:
First Place: Scoundrels
Second Place: No Fun Zone
Third Place: We Came for the Beer
Next week’s first category: Classic Films!
See you then….

Morgan Ridge Railwalk in Salisbury, NC
It was a great night for Trivia at Morgan Ridge Railwalk Brewery last night! It was also a great way to end my trivia hosting journey! Team Wilson and Participation Trophy were neck and neck the entire game. But little did they know that Slow Bro was creeping up slowly behind both teams. In the end, Slow Bro came out victorious, and the other two teams finishing in the Top three. I was very happy for the team Slow Bro because they came to the very first trivia night, then came back to my last one and were the winners. All the teams were great and we all had a blast! Really enjoyed my time being Trivia Host for Morgan Ridge Railwalk.

Brooksville Brewing in Spring Hill, FL
Our first trivia night of 2017 was full of excitement! We had an awesome set of trivia tonight, full of science, music, and sports facts I’m always shocked everyone knows. All new teams this week, with our winning team taking the gold after spending most of the night in third place. That 12 point wager is tricky, ain’t it? Congrats to our winners:
First Place: Team of Three
Second Place: My Dad is a Loser
Third Place: Green Eyed Lady
Next week’s first category: Molecular Energy
Fish Market in Alexandria, VA
I arrived approximately 45 minutes before start time and it looked as if we were gonna have a slow night, 4 or 5 teams MAYBE there to play. Well, it certainly was early as we saw a record TWENTY teams join us for the game tonight! Amazing, just amazing. It made my job a bit hectic but I love to keep busy, and the enthusiasm was spectacular!
PC Principals followed up a good week last time with a great start, though it was a team of four people tonight, ColinFest 2: The Impossible Dream, who were looking like the story here. PC Principals owns this place pretty regularly and ColinFest held close for a long while! Only one point separated them at the halfway mark and the 3rd round wasn’t gonna create much discrepancy.
Going into the 6-4-2, it was still a one-point lead for PC Principals and the six-point clue didn’t help ColinFest gain ground. Round 4 sure helped, as PC Principals missed a one-point wager and let the others tie the game up before the final question! At a 163 tie, both teams bet 12 on the final, hoping that the other would miss or an eventual tiebreaker would play in their favor.
Well, the final tonight was a TOUGHY, with only two teams picking up a correct response. One of those teams would win, the other would get 2nd place. The 3rd place finish tonight goes to ColinFest, who played a very strong game but fell just short at the end! 2nd place went to Bless Your Heart, and the winners, once again, were PC Principals! Another game next week, only a few more before the playoffs! See ya then!
Next week’s first category: The Academy Awards
Guido’s in Frederick, MD
The weather was DEFINITELY a bit worrisome before tonight’s game at Guido’s Speakeasy, but as the say in the biz, “the show must go on”! By the final question, there was one team that had 1st place sown up no matter WHAT happened! Tonight’s top teams were Fanny’s Friends finishing 3rd, Cunnilumpkins took 2nd and back in the house with a dominating victory was T.N.C!! They decided to go with “1864” as next weeks winners choice category (It doesn’t necessarily have to be about that year). Hopefully the weather won’t be as scarey, so study up for next Thursday for a whole new night of fun at Guido’s!!
