Is There a Support Group for My Thursday Night Trivia Addiction?
As we close out our weeknight games of Pour House Trivia, we once again learned that anything can happen in a night of trivia. In five out of our seven venues tonight, the team that was leading after Round 4 missed the final question, allowing a team to swoop in with a come-from-behind victory. Tonight’s final question definitely did its job in challenging the best teams, while rewarding players of all abilities who could see through the clues. On to the recaps!
THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (44 teams across seven venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Serenity Now (Champion) and Power Vacuum (Champion) with 169
–> Highest Score after Round 4: PC Principals (Fish Market) with 160
–> Highest First Half Score: Your Mom (Bunker) with 90
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): PC Principals
–> The halftime was certainly on the easier side tonight, yielding an average score of 18.8, with about 30% of our teams scoring a perfect 20. You guys must love those rebus puzzles!
–> Our most interesting question of the night asked teams to identify any one of the four American colleges to have produced BOTH a Super Bowl winning quarterback AND a U.S. President. Most teams scored their points with the University of Michigan (Tom Brady and Gerald Ford).
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (42.3% success rate):
–> Which organization was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1935 by two men: Bill, a stock speculator, and Bob, a colorectal surgeon? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, MD
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO TRIVIA AT QUINCY’S ON OCTOBER 13
Next game’s first category: “The Far Side”

Third Place: Indians
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50 (Fish Parts or Bicycle Parts?)

On Thursday, Chief was suddenly un-retired and brought from behind the do-not-break glass to serve as substitute for the lovely (and loved) Samantha. All told, the night was relatively uneventful – but for Chief’s mistake awarding two-point bonuses (quickly rectified). Chief was even humbled by getting the occasional end-of-night “At first I was just mad that Sam wasn’t here, but you turned out just fine”. Given the almost cult-like following Sam engenders at each of her venues, Chief was happy to make it out alive – let alone forgiven!
Nonetheless, the night really came down to the final question – and what a doozy it was. Evenly split between “those that knew” and “those who didn’t”, it had serious consequences to the leadership board, including a tie for first! Surfacing from among the scrum was Power Vacuum by a freshly-won two-point margin. Congrats to all the teams for a game well played, and Chief looks forward to hosting you any time Sam wants to throw him to the wolves, again. Here are the final standings:
First Place: Power Vacuum
Second Place: Serenity Now
Third Place: Vitrifiers
Next week’s first category: “Modern Family”

A lot of fun tonight was had at the lake for the final night of trivia in 2016. The game was very close all around for the entire night, but in the end the guys of Team Munt were the only team to come up with the correct response on the final question, as they figured out the clues were referring to Alcoholics Anonymous. Great job taking home that top prize!
First Place: Munt
Second Place: Rock Lobsters
Third Place: Faking Bad
You guys rock! See you in the Spring!

PLEASE NOTE: This is the FINAL WEEK of Pour House Trivia at LLA for 2016. After the winter hiatus, trivia will return in the Spring. Check the website for details next year. Thanks!

Tonight at The Links at Chalendon in Mount Airy, we had a close game all night, and as usual, the game was decided on the final question. About half of our teams knew that AC/DC’s “Back in Black” is the best-selling hard rock / heavy metal album of all time. Great game everyone! I’m looking forward to next week already. Here are our final standings:
First Place: Sharpies
Second Place: Fairway to Heaven
Third Place: Greens in Regulation
Next week’s first category: College Football
Until next time!

The live recap coming straight from my android phone! This is what happens when you go out for a sandwich ten minutes before you’ve gotta send your recap to make the deadline! Great turn out tonight, lots of teams showing up! We tried out our new one-speaker set up. Felt a bit better aesthetically and seemed to get the job done.
We had a heated battle tonight between Ant Farm Keyboard and PC Principals, both of whom are looking very strong this season! PC Principles held the lead going into round 3. Round 4 was a difficult one; almost everyone missing the question about the TV talk show, but PC Principals picked it up, showing that they are a force to be reckoned with.
Normally it’s AFK who crush the competition here, but PC Principals are just too good. PC in first going into the final. About half of our teams correctly answered the final question, so the standings got mixed a bit. After the dust settled, here’s how the finals standings looked:
First Place: PC Principals
Second Place: Ant Farm Keyboard
Third Place: Bobbitt Connection
Next week’s first category: King Crimson

Guido’s in Frederick, MD
We had a nice group of teams in for our Thursday night game at Guido’s Speakeasy! Unfortunately for most of them, the 1st and 2nd place spots were pretty much unreachable for anyone after the 4th round! So once the answers were in for the final, this is how it looked…
We actually had a first timer team do really well and finished in 3rd place, I’d like to welcome team Moldy Bones! Finishing 2nd was Spitters are Quitters, and stopping in for a game and crushing everyone for the 1st place victory was Brannigans Law!! They chose “Nickelodeon Gameshows” for next weeks winners choice, so study up, and come on out for a GREAT time next Thursday night at Guido’s!!
