The Votes Are In! Wednesday Night Trivia is the REAL Winner!
If one year ago, someone had told me that Donald Trump would be elected President and the Cubs would be World Series champions, hopefully I would have been smart enough to bet on both of those outcomes. The payout would have been “YUGE”! It just goes to show that some things are hard to predict. What’s not hard to predict? That everyone has a great time at trivia night! Wednesday’s game quizzed our players on such cinematic classics as “Hello Dolly!” and “Eight Heads in a Duffel Bag”. I guess ‘classic’ is a subjective term. Onto the recap!
WEDNESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (56 teams across 10 venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Stupid Sexy Flanders (Valley Grill) and The Fan Club (The Tavern) with 170
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Roaming Gnomes (Bennigan’s – Clarksburg) with 161
–> Highest First Half Score: Fast Forward Not Available (Valley Grill) with 90
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Stupid Sexy Flanders (Valley Grill) and Momentary Lapse of Reason (Bennigan’s – Frederick), The Fan Club (The Tavern)
–> Surprisingly, tonight’s halftime sheet was the easiest of the entire season, with the average score coming in at just over 18.8. We weren’t certain how much attention our players might have paid to last night’s election results, but collectively, everybody was on the ball, as nearly half of our teams scored a perfect 20.
–> Tonight’s 6-4-2 question was certainly more difficult, with only 22% of teams knowing that the town of Twinsburg, host of the ‘National Twins Day Festival’ is located in the state of Ohio.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (82.3% success rate):
–> Made by Clearly Canadian Beverages, this fruit-flavored soft drink introduced in 1997 (and discontinued shortly thereafter) featured small, edible balls suspended within the beverage. The brand name – including its unique spelling – is now used by an unrelated travel booking website. What is this shared brand name? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
We had a relatively quaint game of Pour House here at Valley Grill in Middletown, my guess being a lot of folks were worn out by last night’s electoral activity. It was a close game with only a few points separating 1st and 3rd, with three teams tied for 4th! Here are the results:
First Place: Stupid Sexy Flanders
Second Place: Fast Forward Not Available
Third Place: Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap
Next week’s first category: “Westworld”
What a great game at The Tavern on Wednesday! Teams came out and played a really competitive game that had a 3 way tie for 1st before the final round!! We even had a top 3 place shuffle because of some wager choices on the final question. After the scores were recalculated, this is how it ended… Finishing in 3rd was Mab, moving up to 2nd was Moving Forward, and stepping back into the winners circle with 1st was the Veteran’s Fan Club!! They picked “Current Washington Post Sunday Comic Strips” for next weeks winners choice so study up, and join us for a fun game next Wednesday at The Tavern!!

Tonight was the final night of trivia at Applebee’s in Frederick, and we’d like to thank this venue for being a part of the Pour House Trivia family for over two years! I hope that our regular teams can find a location close by to conitue enjoying their weekly trivia night. Here are your final standings:
First Place: Dalek Dance Party
Second Place: BTF
Third Place: We’ve Embraced Our Mediocrity
With the shortened season, We’ve Embraced Our Mediocrity earns the title of ‘House Champion’, and receives an automatic invitation to PHT World Series XIV in January. Good luck!
Tonight’s game at Belle’s Sports Bar and Grill was MUCH closer than the presidential election, with everything coming down to the final question and Tokyo Sex Whale pulling away with a one point victory at the final! Our halftime puzzle page featured a list of key states and which candidate won them in the election; it looks like most teams were paying very close attention to the race because they nailed it. All of the teams were very competitive the entire game, despite the nation seemingly hung over from the election craziness from last night, so a big shout out to everyone who played. Here are the final results:
First Place: Tokyo Sex Whale
Second Place: Flight Level Awesome
Third Place: Halfway to a Threesome
Next week’s first category: 1966 Baltimore Orioles
A cold Wednesday evening following you know what can’t bring down the fun here at Bennigans for Pour House Trivia night!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Bizarre?-Try-WTF?”: That Pink Floyd cover tonight…I got so many confused faces, followed by almost angry ones when they realized who it was! Pink Floyd taken very seriously in here tonight I see! Not to mention the wild Britney Spears cover!
In “Salt-In-Fresh-Wounds”: That puzzle page tonight…oof…tried to spend the day avoiding all that nonsense and then BAM, right smack in the middle of the game it all comes rushing back. Based on some team reactions they were just as unprepared for it. Still, we got through somehow. Then again, that was just a puzzle page…
In “4th-Quarter-Slip-Ups”: The game was relatively close for most of the night. Then round four happened and everything went out the window; most teams dropped big points on the Hello Dolly question, and the math and beer questions were just as tricky for the teams. Once all was said and done, the podium looked like this:
First Place: Momentary Lapse of Reason
Second Place: Multiple Scorgasms
Third Place: BumbleSlayers
Next week’s week first category: Ask Your Pharmacist
Study up, and we’ll see you next time! Until then,
Yet another drop-in team joined us tonight at Woodside; we seem to be developing fresh, local talent. Look for all of them in the World Series! Front of the Class had a commanding lead throughout the game, but a couple miss-steps and a hungry crowd meant that in the end, they only squeaked by with a one-point margin. The last question, though: who doesn’t fondly remember Orbitz? (Said no one ever. What’s next? Chocolate soda? Wait.)
Only another trivia week remaining before the Thanksgiving festivities: make sure to keep up attendance and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook! Your final standings:
First Place: Front of the Class
Second Place: Nerds Say What
Third Place: We need a Do Over
Next week’s first category: Disneyland
Another night of trivia at Bennigan’s, our 2nd of November. The weather getting a little cooler and a lot of rain tonight, but that didn’t keep our regulars away! We saw most of the regular crowd join us tonight, looking to dethrone Roaming Gnomes who have looked very good this season. Just the Tip looked to rebound after a self-described “poor” performance last week.
The first half felt very tame, most teams picking up the necessary points. Halftime played fairly easy; I guess it goes to show that most of America was locked in and focused on that Election last night… I don’t think I’ve seen so many perfect scores! Good first half for the teams, it was a tight one going into the second half!
Question of the night was CERTAINLY our A+B=C Movie Question, no team picking up points on that. Obscure 90’s movies not the forte of the group here? No matter, EVERYTHING else seemed to be as most teams cleaned the board tonight! Strong performances all around, however it was Roaming Gnomes who stood strong in the top spot going into the final.
Final played fairly easy, everyone picking up points there so we have a winner! Roaming Gnomes wins another one! Don’t Call Me Shirley in 2nd and We’ll Try Harder takes 3rd! We’ll see you guys next week; that will be the last time we play until AFTER Thanksgiving! I’ll see you in a week!
Next week’s first category: “Alice’s Restaurant”
Thanks for bearing with me last night, Memories, as we worked through the exhaustion and played a highly-competitive game of trivia! With high scores on the puzzle page, teams stayed close and in contention up until the very last question! In the end, a newly-solidified superteam takes down the win. Here are your final standings:
First Place: Stephen Hawking’s Karaoke Machine
Second Place: LOWL
Third Place: Sexual Chocolate
Next week’s first category: Modern Baseball Trading Cards
We meet at a bar noted for knowledge, in a city noted for trivia, in a State noted for answers, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds.
Despite the striking fact that most of the trivia players that the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that “Does He Look Like a Biff¹s” came in third, and “What Else Could It Be” took second place, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished questions were far outstripped by the collective comprehension of the first place winners, “Sad Fat Dragons”.
We choose to answer a question about the Great Lakes. We choose to go answer a question about the Great Lakes next week and do the other questions, not because they are easy, but because they are hard and may come with a bonus question.
Thank you and may God bless America.

Even though everyone was clearly exhausted by the election, we still had a great turn out of 10 teams. That’s 3 more than last week. Trivia in Cloverdale is growing! The Golden Snitches got off to an early lead (helped by a Harry Potter question in round 1) but by the end of round 2, Ta Killya was in 1st place for good. Here are the final standings for tonight:
First place: Ta Killya
Second Place: Ice-T/Lemonade
Third Place: Laughy Taffeez
Winner’s Choice: “M*A*S*H”
