Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

Ha! I sang and you didn’t leave! Champions, most of you even knew what song it was! I’ll take that as a win, thank you very much. It was our first in a week series of Sam sings everything, so we can only go downhill from here 😉 I am not sure I did No Diggity any justice, but what I really want to hear after tonight is Mack the Knife! Talk about a throw back!

Tonight it was the Middle East who provided quite a few of your brain twist moments, between the green zone and the Durand line – no one was happy with the middle east. Again. On that note, a very happy belated Veteran’s Day! You all absolutely killed the tower of London question (See what I did there??) but had a rough go of it on naming the unfortunate wives of Henry VIII, Damn you Catherine!

So the St. Lawrence question brought up some good points, turns out there are over 10,000 saints- the church has no “Headcount” and keeps dropping them like flies. Also, adding them hundreds at a time- 802 at the last addition to the rolls. I had no idea, slipped in to a bit of a catholic church rabbit hole looking for the simple answer of “How many Saints could there be?”

We had a return of some old favorites tonight, the In your endo’s! They would have taken 3rd tonight but had too many players on the field so had to take some bragging rights instead. Hopefully we see you back next week to make your presence felt! 3rd went to Power Vac! By the skin of your teeth! 2nd belongs to Charlie and the Vodka Factory and 1st went to the very happy team of Vitrifiers! Nicely done guys! I will see you all next week when we start off with a question about the Book of Mormon the musical. Which I will not be singing. 😉

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

Tonight’s game was EXTRA special for a number of reasons! First off, we’re closing in on our anniversary here at the Fish Market. Within the next week or two, it will have been two years since we started running our game of pub quiz here and it’s just as kicking now as it has ever been, so thank you for the players and the support you’ve brought! Tonight also marked a special occasion because a large group of my friends decided from all over the MD/VA area decided to come together and join us for live trivia night!

These friends of mine fit into a special category, quite prestigious among trivia folk. A large number of them (if not all of them) are big winners on TV quiz shows. Jeopardy! and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire are big ones but I’m sure there are others too. To my personal knowledge, I knew that at least 3 of them were Jeopardy Champions and that’s not to mention the people I’d just met tonight! It was a big group, about 13 of them, came out tonight to play live trivia for the first time at the Fish Market. Because of the Team Size Rule, they broke into two teams, calling themselves Pyramids of Grain and Friends of Bill.

As you might expect from J! Champions, they were pretty good at trivia, although Welcome to You’re Doom was here to protect their house. At half time, the larger of the two new teams led the way with a whopping 92 points. Not far behind was Welcome to You’re Doom who had 88 points, 3rd place was Friends of Bill, the other of our newcomers. It truly was competitive within the top 3. Collectively, it seemed like they’d only missed 2 or 3 questions all night!

The second half was able to cause a bit more separation as Pyramids moved into a 9 point lead going into the final. Friends of Bill had 2nd place ahead of Doom by a point or two. They fought hard all night, trading places, barely missing. It truly was a competitive of juggernauts. The best of the best might’ve been out here tonight. It was insane. The final question played very difficult tonight. The only problem with difficult is that it didn’t ever seem to affect our trivia experts, as all 3 of our top teams were able to get a correct response! That’d do it and the game would wrap up just as it did going in. Your winners tonight are Pyramids of Grain!! 2nd place Friends of Bill! 3rd place Welcome to You’re Doom. A well-fought game!

It is NOT often that a final score of 171 points ends up taking THIRD place at a venue. A hard fought game for the trio of Welcome to You’re Doom as they valiantly fought to protect their venue but with only 3 people it was hard to keep up with a max team of seasoned trivia veterans. I’d wager that is a RECORD for points scored by a LOSING team. Pretty interested to see the stats. Either way, I’m sure they’ll be back next week to reclaim the title after a very difficult game. I’ll be back to hopefully witness the return to grace. Until then, I’ll see you guys soon!

1st Place: Pyramids of Grain
2nd Place: Friends of Bill
3rd Place: Welcome to You’re Doom

Next week: Before, During, and After

Guido’s – Frederick, MD

We had one of those crazy switcheroo endings to last nights trivia game at Guido’s Speakeasy. One team was leading all night long, by 4 points at round 2, only 2 points after halftime and back up to 6 points before the final! Oh, that damn final question!!

This was the top 3: In 3rd place last night we had Super, Happy, Fun Time! Leading ALL GAME but dropping to 2nd place because of the final was T.N.C.!! Making an impressive jump up to 1st place and stealing the win at the last second was Bongo Sluts!!

Their pick for next weeks winners choice category is kinda funny. It’s just “… and the Blowfish”. No Hootie, just the Blowfish! LOL! So study up and get back here next Thursday for some more fun at Guido’s!!!

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD

Happy Veterans Day! This week at Mainstreet house had a new winner Black Dogs came in first place with149 points. Close Second was Cup Chicks who are always happy to be on the leaderboard. We Guess made an appearance and came in 3rd place! Well played everyone!

First category next week is Nebraska!

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

A packed house does not begin to describe the crowd at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg on Thursday night.  I don’t think there was an empty seat in the bar, as 15 teams crammed in for a great night of trivia.  A close game all around led to a rather difficult final in which only two teams came up with the correct response.  One of those was Breadsticks, who snagged their first win of the season with a stellar performance.  Blue Collar took second, putting them in the mix for the overall season 12 lead.  Smella Nella must have sensed the tough question, as their strategic wager allowed them to take third.  Next week, we’ll begin with a question on Sabermetrics (extra-nerdy baseball statistics).  ~ Matt
