The Motherland Calls… for Wednesday Night Trivia!

Wednesday is a busy night at Pour House Trivia.  With the recent addition of three new venues, we have more than a dozen places to play on Wednesday night, with dozens of teams throwing down for a little trivia glory.  So when one team destroys the competition across all of our venues, it is even more impressive than a simple win.  Our depending World Series champions proved why they are a threat to repeat next month in Hagerstown:

WEDNESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (81 teams across 12 venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: Dusty Baker School of Management (Bennigan’s – Clarksburg) with 171

–> Highest Score after Round 4: Dusty Baker School of Management (Bennigan’s – Clarksburg) with 167

–> Highest First Half Score: Dusty Baker School of Management (Bennigan’s – Clarksburg) with 93

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Only ONE TEAM managed to pull correct responses on all 21 wagering questions tonight… No surprise, it was Dusty Baker School of Management.

–> The halftime sheet was not particularly difficult, yielding an average of 16.7, with about 10% of our teams scoring a perfect 20.

–> A shout out to Simple Minds at Valley Grill, as the ONLY team to score 6 points on the 6-4-2 last night, by knowing that Finland has the lowest current population among all Summer Olympics hosts.

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (38.6% success rate):

–> Apart from the United States, what is the most populous country on Earth whose national flag conists of red, white, and blue, and NO OTHER COLORS?  (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)

Valley Grill in Middletown, MD

Once again we return to the “trivia battlefield” known as Valley Grill, once again these teams clash for the prizes and jockey for position as House Champions for the upcoming World Series.  One of our questions was about a real turkey, but enough about the 2001 film Pearl Harbor; we had an actual question about actual turkeys to follow it up. We “thundered” right through round two and into a puzzle page dealing with some prestigious medal winners. The third round featured some U.S. Presidents and a TV show title that certainly could reference a few of them. After the final we had a few ties to settle up and here are the results:

First Place:  Stupid Sexy Flanders

Second Place:  Shake Weight

Third Place:  Scared Money Don’t Make Money

The Tavern in Olney, MD

We had a great team turnout for our Wednesday game at The Tavern! There’s some stiff competition here with our teams, so our top 3 teams were really close together once we reached the final question. So close, in fact, that I had to use a tie breaker after the answers were all in on that final question! After the smoke cleared, we ended up with Seattle Seahawks Fan Club in 3rd, Olney The Lonely took 2nd, and stepping back into the 1st place throne was Bam!! The decided on “The Beatles” for next weeks winners choice, so study up and come join us for a challenge AND some fun next Wednesday at The Tavern!!

Belles’ Sports Bar in Frederick, MD

Some nights.. some mother lovin’ nights. Thank god I was at Belles tonight, as we got some much needed Wednesday night family time in. My crews in here are a blast, and we had a few moments where the game needed to be paused because i was laughing too hard to continue. We established tonight that I am a terrible person, Justin incites all of the love still, and you’re most likely not going to be able to hear me sing if I am not actually singing.. As always, thank you for joining me on these raucous trivia evenings.

The final was a good one tonight, and some strategic wagering backfired to put Constantly Changing in 3rd and Flight Level Awesome in 2nd. The reigning champions are still atop that throne – Tokyo Sex Whale!  Man oh man.. hard to beat to say the least. I will see you next week for Animated Christmas Specials.

Bennigan’s in Frederick, MD

Another Wednesday night, another fiery game of Pour House Trivia here at the Frederick Bennigans!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Gods-And-Goddesses-101”: For the Cupid/Eros question, I can understand not knowing them, I can understand getting hung up on Venus and putting Aphrodite. But Bacchus is entirely separate entity unto those gods, and if you know his name you would think you would know what he’s the god of…

In “Bond-Marathon-at-My-Place”: While the Cupid/Eros question was still pretty gettable, I was absolutely shocked at how many teams couldn’t come up with ONE of the James Bond movies, let alone both! Clearly we need to have a full Bond Marathon, pronto! At least Connery. We can skip Lazenby and Moore.

In “Third-Quarter-From-Hell”: Tonight’s third round was a bloodbath, with no teams coming out unscathed. The griping was long and varied, and the language colorful. Thankfully, we made it through somehow, but damn!

When all was said and done, our top three was decided by the final, and it went down like this.

In third place tonight, BTF!

In second place tonight, Momentary Lapse of Reason!

In first place tonight, Multiple Scorgasms!

Great game everyone! Next week we’ll kick things off with a category on Canadian Politics of the 2000s! Should be interesting; study up, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,

No game tonight at Woodside Deli.  Chief returns next week!

Nido’s Ristorante in Frederick, MD

Week two of trivia at Nido’s kicked off with a question about films of 1939 (apparently it was a good year for film).  The question asked about a film based on a John Steinbeck novel, which was ‘Of Mice and Men’.  The audio question asked about three musical acts who sang songs about thunder.  Most teams did pretty well, and the intro to Thunderstruck by AC/DC is one of my favorite intros ever.

Halftime asked teams to identify 2016 Presidential Medal of Freedom winners, as well as identifying a list of seemingly unrelated things that had a common theme.  Everyone got really close to the theme, saying they were all song titles but not quite hitting the answer of Beyoncé songs.  The final for tonight proved to be rather tough as well, probably because nobody realized that Russia got a new flag awhile ago.  This led to these final standings:

First Place:  Wednesday

Second Place:  A Crudely Drawn… (Puppy?)

Third Place:  Dalek Dance Party

Next week’s first category:  Mexican food

Until next time,

Bennigan’s in Clarksburg, MD

Tonight we welcomed back World Series XIII Champions Dusty Baker School of Management!  After the magic they pulled against a field of 90+ teams in June, they took a break from the trivia scene to recoup (and probably spend the dough they won! $$$).  Tonight, they returned to Bennigan’s, looking to re-qualify and crush everyone once again this upcoming January!  The field full of veteran teams tonight, no one wanted to let them come in on a whim and crush the place. It was certainly going to be something to watch!

Dusty Baker started off incredibly strong, missing just a SINGLE POINT in the first half, leading with a score of 93 points.  Downtown Dinky Town was not far off with a respectable 90 points as we went into Round 3.  Round 3 was TOUGH for the majority of the teams, most teams missing at least 1 or 2 wagers, and most of the 2 point bonuses. Dusty Baker did not crumble under the difficulty, going a PERFECT 5/5 with all the 2 point bonuses as well to extend their total to 129 going into the 6-4-2.

From there, it was all Dusty Baker, picking up every point in Round 4 and LOCKING the game going into the final, sitting pretty with a 167 to 2nd place’s 150.  A-17 point lead the first game back?  I’d say these guys are poised to take another title at the end of next month!  Be on the look out for them!  An easy victory tonight for the reigning champs! 2nd place to Roaming Gnomes who got the final but were NOT close enough to close the gap.  3rd place to Shirley who had the 2nd place slot but fell short after Round 4! Back next week to see who can compete with these new juggernauts of trivia at Bennigan’s! Hope to see you come out and test the field! Bring some friends, it’s ROUGH OUT HERE! Until next time guys, thanks!

Memories in Mount Airy, MD

A packed house kept the cold weather at bay, as our teams moved ever closer to World Series XIV. We also had a birthday in the house, and I promised not to make a big deal about it… right before the cake arrived and we all sang Happy Birthday.

Oops.

Teams stayed close til the end, with Sexual Chocolate pulling into Victory Lane ahead by enough to bet zero and watch the chaos of the final unfold.

First Place:  Sexual Chocolate

Second Place:  Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me

Third Place:  Team Awesome

We had a tight game at the Furnace tonight. One of the funniest question involved a brand of liquor, with most people were trying to guess the answer based on the drinks that they were drinking.  Here are your final standings:

Second Place:  In Pursuit of Happy Hour

Third Place:  Wolf Pack

Barefoot Bernie’s in Hagerstown, MD

Two new comers stepped into the trivia ring tonight: “60% Of The Time We Win Every Time” and the “A Team”. Both teams met up against the Bernie’s veterans.  In a knock down, drag out fight, the Sad Fat Dragons held first place the entire game.  The battle wasn’t for the title belt, but for second and third.  Biff and Taint slugged it out for three rounds, before 60% slid into third place by one point.  Then came the final showdown…  Here are our top teams tonight:

First Place:  Sad Fat Dragons

Second Place:  Taint To Proud To Beg

Third Place:  60% of the Time We Win Every Time

Applebee’s in Waynesboro, PA

We had a few new teams tonight as well as some familiar faces so a big thank you to everyone for coming out, and to Applebee’s for having us.  We had a very competitive game tonight, with a 6-4-2 question that packed quite a punch, and a final that caused a big shake-up to the top three at the end.  Here they are:

First Place:  JuJu and Friends

Second Place:  Fig Neutrons

Third Place  Wingin’ It

Clover Theater in Cloverdale, CA

Eight teams showed up for an extremely tight competition.  Mark’s Angels and Chicken Nuggets went into the final tied for first.  Every team wagered 12 on the final and every team got it wrong.  That led to our first tie-breaker question here.  Both teams overshot the gross for Spotlight but Mark’s Angels overshot it less.  They’ll defend next week for next exciting game of Pour House Trivia!

First Place:  Mark’s Angels

Second Place:  Chicken Nuggets

Third Place:  The Amigos
