The Luck of the Irish at Weekend Trivia!
The backdrop of tournament basketball must have inspired a competitive streak among our loyal teams, as all four of weekend venues welcomed crowds of at least ten teams, with Vanish Brewery topping 20 teams for the third time this season! Overall, we welcomed 51 teams across four venues:
FIRST HALF:
Saturday’s game began with a look at this holiday tradition:
On both Friday and Saturday, our games featured a Three Clues question in the opening round. In both cases, very few teams were bold enough to turn in an early correct answer for two bonus points. Friday’s version dealt with a particular game:
CLUE 1: King Henry VIII was such a fan of this game that he forbade commoners to play it.
CLUE 2: Though some variations exist, this game is typically played on a court measuring 52 feet by eight feet.
Only four of our 30 Friday teams earned this bonus with the answer of shuffleboard:
Saturday’s Three Clues question was even more difficult, as only two of our teams picked up bonus points on a question concerning a chemical element:
CLUE 1: This is the second-most abundant element on the Earth’s surface.
CLUE 2: With an atomic number of 14, it’s a member of the carbon group.
These clues enticed numerous wrong answers, but the correct response was silicon. Other first round topics included the TV series “Scandal”, the Panama Canal, and the use of the term saves in both baseball and hockey. In the second round, our audio questions quizzed our teams on the song “See You Again” (by Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa) and the film work of Scarlett Johansson. Our Friday teams were virtually stumped on a bonus question concerning the film “The Legend of Bagger Vance”, as only two teams knew that the film was directed by Robert Redford. Meanwhile, none of our Saturday teams were able to earn the final bonus of the first half, which asked them to name the NHL city in which the classic rock band The Guess Who was founded. Believe it or not, some famous people are from Winnipeg. Throughout the entire weekend, none of our teams were able to post a perfect round during the first half.
HALFTIME:
This weekend’s halftime pages dealt with breakfast cereals and famous people named Jack or Jackie. Overall, these pages were slightly more difficult than normal, as we saw an overall average score of 15.2 with just four teams recording a perfect 20 points. These were our top scores at the halftime break:

SECOND HALF:
Friday’s most difficult wagering question of the second half dealt with the current NCAA tournament:
–> Among the four schools which earned #1 seeds at this year’s NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, two teams have previously won national titles. For your wager, name either one of these two schools.
Only 31% of our Friday teams earned their wager with either one of the correct answers of Villanova and Kansas. Our Saturday teams dealt with geometry and Italian cuisine, as well as this Tribal Love-Rock Musical:
Smarty Pants and Tragically Hipp (both from Belles’) broke through by turning in the first perfect rounds of the weekend, with each notching 36 points in the third round. Each of our weekend game featured a Last Word / First Word question, with the respective answering being The Grateful Dead Sea Scrolls and Two Tickets to Paradise Lost. FRIDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (74.7% success rate):
