Swing For the Fences at Monday Night Trivia!
As we begin Week 3 of Season XIV, it is the end of an era in Virginia, as host Ronnie was on the mic for the last time at DRP. He’s been hosting in Del Ray every Monday night for more than four years, and we’re pleased that so many teams have been regular competitors for that entire time frame. The new host at DRP is Chris, a game show veteran, having appeared on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” several years ago. He is also one of our sharpest (former) players. Good luck! On to the rundown… Our Monday night venues are always stocked with some of our best and brightest trivia teams. Who would be the best teams on this first Monday of the fall?
MONDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (37 teams across four venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 170
–> Highest Score after Round 4: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 168
–> Highest First Half Score: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 92
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Del Ray Dummies (DRP), Jimmy’s in Vegas (Spider Kelly’s), High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s)
–> The halftime page was tough tonight, yielding an average score of just 14.1, with only one team (High School Prom) scoring a perfect 20 points.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (42.4% success rate):
–> Located in Kentucky, the Hillerich & Bradsby Company is best known for producing what famous product? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
DRP in Alexandria, VA
OK! So thanks again so much for all the love and gifts (I scored a six pack of Budweiser: thank you Wingardium, Del Ray Dummies and MSC) for my final night here at DRP. I can tell you that you are ALL in great hands with Chris as your new host, the man is sharp. Great game of trivia to go out on, and I look forward to catching up to you all again at World Series! Here are the results:
First Place: Del Ray Dummies
Second Place: B-58’s
Third Place: MSC
Next week’s first category: “Rick and Morty”

Tonight’s game started with a question about the 1992 Dream Team, which asked about the two NBA teams that were represented by multiple players, the Bulls (Jordan and Pippen) and the Jazz (Stockton and Malone). The toughest question of the first four rounds was actually our audio question, which asked to identify films of Keanu Reeves. It was boom-or-bust on this one, as only two teams were able to earn their wager. Oddly enough, both of those teams got all three films and also earned the bonus! The final question for tonight proved to be pretty tough, as we asked about the product that is made by the Kentucky based Hillerich & Bradsby Company, which nobody got was the makers of the Louisville Slugger.
This didn’t change much, as we didn’t have any crazy wagers. Here are your final standings:
First Place: What Else Could It Be!?
Second Place: Cobras
Third Place: That’s a Niner
Next week’s first category: 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team
Until next time,

Thanks to all who skipped the debates to play trivia with us Monday night! (It’s all about the sound bites and water cooler talk anyway, right?) Seven teams came ready to duke it out, and boy they did – some confusion over whether it was chicken or tuna knocked down a couple of our teams early on. A couple teams again were knocked down in Round 4 when they “missed it by that much” on the name of Spielberg’s comedic movie title. High School Prom took the lead early and held it throughout the game and Jimmy’s in Vegas looked poised to take 2nd without a problem. However, the final question proved a doozy when only three teams got it correct, moving Ives Mansion into the 2nd place spot. Winners were as follows:
First Place: High School Prom
Second Place: Ives Mansion
Third Place: Walking Talking Stephen Hawking
Next week’s first category: “Gilmore Girls”

Fall hit us HARD! Been hot for months now, MONTHS! And tonight it was cold, wet, rainy, pouring even! I got soaked on my way in… Was ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy the next few hours with my Monday night trivia crew, thanks all for besting the weather and joining me for the game! This season has seen Stink Floyd take two in a row to start, we’d see if he (a solo player) would continue the streak tonight!
Teams stuck close in points tonight but it was the Professional Kickballers who were leading at the half, followed by Volcano Insurance! These two teams hadn’t won in a while and it was looking like their time might be tonight. Round 3 had a tough NFL question which took down about half the field, including Chicken McThuggets who usually go HARD on Sports questions… Must’ve been a hard one.
Standings shifted all over the place during the next round. Leading going into the final was The A Team outta nowhere! Volcano Insurance held onto 2nd place, hoping that The A Team would miss the final and let them have the win tonight. We Thought This was Paint Night came out strong tonight as well, holding 3rd going into the final question.
About half of our teams got the final question correctly tonight, but with all the teams in the top three getting correct responses, there was no shift in the standings. They were able to deduce that the most famous (non-alcoholic) product to come out of the state of Kentucky was the Louisville Slugger! Good game all, we’re back next week with more Season XIV of PHT!
First Place: The A Team
Second Place: Volcano Insurance
Third Place: We Thought This Was Paint Night
Next week’s first category: Japan
