Stop! In the Name of Wednesday Night Pour House Trivia!
Tonight’s game of Pour House Trivia ran the gamut of topics and categories a little bit more than usual on Wednesday, as we were able to squeeze in questions on Broadway musicals, sports cars, Spanish explorers, and something called ‘Emoji Brownies’. I’ll pass… We also learned what LL Cool J’s real name is (although, considering it’s simply ‘James Smith’, most of you have already forgotten it). Several of our venues topped double-digits in terms of the number of teams, so the competition was fierce. Who landed at the top of the leaderboard?
WEDNESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (67 teams across eight venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Slapsgiving (Barefoot Bernie’s) with 172
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Slapsgiving (Barefoot Bernie’s) and Taint Too Proud to Beg (Barefoot Bernie’s) with 160
–> Highest First Half Score: Taint Too Proud to Beg (Barefoot Bernie’s) with 92
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Roaming Gnomes (Bennigan’s – Clarksburg) and Slapsgiving (Barefoot Bernie’s)
–> Our Pokemon-themed halftime sheet yielded and average score of 17.1, with six teams topping the field with the elusive 20.
–> Round three featured our most difficult question of the night, with only about 20% of our teams coming up with the correct response in the not-so-popular category of Asian Geography:
– Located on the large Pacific island of Borneo, the independent nation of Brunei is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, a political division of which Asian country?
–> Sexual Chocolate (Memories) has started Season XIV with a four-game winning streak, and is now on the PHT Wall of Fame!
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (74.6% success rate):
–> In 1987, Aretha Franklin became the first female to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A year later, which act became the first all-female group to be inducted? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Valley Grill in Middletown, MD
I tell you we pack the house consistently every Wednesday night here at the Valley Grill in Middletown, so thank you all so much for your support. Tonight’s first category pick of “The Wire” was a strategic one, as the team that picked said category stumped all but one other team. It was a great show, but one that a lot of people didn’t watch apparently. Our Asian Geography question tonight worked over a number of our teams, but you all recovered well with a correctly answered final at just over 80%. Great job! Here are the results:
First Place: Team Second Place
Second Place: Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap
Third Place: Shake Weight
Next week’s first category: “Stranger Things”

The Tavern in Olney, MD
Wednesday nights game at the Tavern was, as always, another good one to watch unfold! There were lots of ties for 1st or 3rd place after a couple rounds during the game, but of course at the end there can only be 3 teams in the top 3 spots. after the final question we had Moving Forward in 3rd, Olney The Lonely in 2nd, and finally getting back to the 1st place spotlight was The Hurricane Matthew Fan Club!! They decided on “African Capitals” for next weeks winners choice so study up, and I’ll see y’all back here next Wednesday night at The Tavern!!

Even when your team tanks (Yeah, it happens to the best of us) you know you’re going to have a good time. Our familiar faces were out tonight to throw down in a royal rumble! One team reigned supreme tonight, they just took the lead and refused to look back but they sure did cheer quite a bit. May have been the beer. Here are your final standings:
First Place: Flight Level Awesome
Second Place: Tokyo Sex Whale (they just will not be denied!)
Third Place: Halfway to a Threesome (nice pull getting yourselves a coo-pun!)
Next week’s first category: Charlemagne.

Bennigan’s in Frederick, MD
Wednesday night means another fiery game of Pour House Trivia at the Frederick Bennigan’s! With a packed house of veteran and traveling teams, we saw a long and hard-fought battle transpire that came right down to the end!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Ian-Is-Still-On-Lake-Time”: I haven’t had a night this riddled with tongue trips, stumbles, and overall host malfunctions! I am sorry you all had to deal with me on a bad night; pretty sure there’s still alcohol in my system from the wedding in Texas this past weekend! I’ll be better next week!
In “I-Have-Failed-As-A-Son”: Tonight’s puzzle page featured one of my hobbies/interests: Pokemon. I love Pokemon. I have a Pokeball Mandala tattooed on my shoulder. And my parents know this. And yet even with a word bank of answers, they can’t get them all right. Tsk tsk tsk. I clearly haven’t exposed them to enough Pokemon.
In “Game-Changing-Question”: The third round saw a dramatic shift in the landscape of the game, with lots of mid to high wagers being used. Only one team got the Asian Geography question right and picked up a 2-point bonus to boot. It set the tone for the rest of the game! When all was said and done, here are your winners:
First Place: Momentary Lapse of Reason
Second Place: Multiple Scorgasms
Third Place: Free Will
Next week’s first category: Percussion Instruments
Bang a gong and we’ll see you next time! Until then,

Bennigan’s in Clarksburg, MD
Crazy night tonight! Lots of twists and turns and shifts and sturns (yes, I made up a word) in this one tonight! We’re coming off a week where Don’t Call Me Shirley wins and picks Einstein’s Theory of Relativity for their Winner’s Choice (yuck! nerds!)… Together with that bonus choice, we had Common Chemistry in the first round which made it a pretty Science heavy set near the beginning!
Based on the scores at the half, it would seem the Science Q’s favored Just the Tip, as they led going into the 3rd round, though the game was mighty close so I couldn’t count ANY TEAM out of this one! Round 3 was TOUGH too! Lots of teams missing bonus chips, missing questions, everything blowing up in everyone’s face. That is, except one team: Roaming Gnomes. When the game gets tough, they seem to get BETTER, making it easy for them to sneak into the lead in the latter half of the trivia contest!
The Roaming Gnomes would carry that momentum into the final question where they led by a whopping 15 points! We know that at PHT, up by 15 going into the final means GG! This one was OVER! Good game Gnomes! They take down the Win! 2nd place went to Don’t Call Me Shirley, a bit of a late comeback for them. 3rd to Just the Tip who fell down just a bit going into the final round. That’s all she wrote! We’re back next week for more season XIV! See ya then!
First Place: Roaming Gnomes
Second Place: Don’t Call Me Shirley
Third Place: Just the Tip
Next week’s first category: The Supremes

An exciting game at Memories came down to the wire, and then a tiebreaker, to give us our winners! With scores close all game, it could have been anyone this week, but in the end, Sexual Chocolate ends up with the victory – making them 4-0 on the season!
First Place: Sexual Chocolate
Second Place: Stephen Hawking’s Karaoke Machine
Third Place: Team Awesome
Next week’s first category Three Clues / One “Archer” Character… LANAAAAA!!!
See you next week!

Bernies Bernies Bernies! Making trivia great again baby! Oh yeah!
Thanks for coming out to play a little pub trivia, Hagerstown Style. We had ourselves a little throwdown, complete with a PHT high score of the night, some wild shooter concoctions and we coined a term which stems from Automotive Lingo 😉 Let’s just let this one hang a bit…ya had to be there.
Congrats to our winners who put on a good trivia showing and earned a TOP 3 spot for their effort.
Next week we have a doozy of an opener: ASTROPHYSICS. Oh yeah my friends – study up on that one! Have a great weekend and we will see you soon 🙂
