Heavy Petting at Wednesday Trivia!

After last week’s snowstorm wiped out most of our Wednesday schedule, we were back with a full night of games, as 109 teams joined in the fun at one of 15 Pour House Trivia venues:

FIRST ROUND:

Opening round topics from Wednesday’s game included actress Jane Seymour, the nation of Colombia, and this Pennsylvania landmark:

The first round was a breeze for our top-notch squads, as 15 teams began their night with a perfect score of 36 points.

SECOND ROUND:

Wednesday’s (first) audio question featured the voices of current game show hosts.  Recognizing Steve Harvey and Ellen DeGeneres was an easy task for the field, but only 17% of our teams tacked on two bonus points by remembering that “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison is also the current host of “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?”.  Next, we snacked on a Chicago-style hot dog, watched two different films entitled “The Rookie”, and asked about this boy band:

Across the board, only nine teams earned the last two bonus points of the first half by correctly naming “Up All Night” as the title of the debut album from One Direction.  As a result, only three teams recorded a perfect second round score: My Black Hole Just Exploded (Quinn’s), The Dog Ate Our Team Name (Quinn’s), and Why Not Zoidberg? (Memories).

HALFTIME:

Wednesday night’s halftime page featured both a picture round and an unexpected audio round, as our teams were asked to identify films featuring recent Oscar snub Glenn Close, as well as musical acts who recorded songs with the word “Paradise” in the title.  Falling on the more difficult side, this page yielded an average score of just 14.1 points, as five teams earned a perfect score of 20 points.  Here is Wednesday’s halftime leaderboard:

THIRD ROUND:

The second half wasted no time in challenging our teams, as a three-part question on world leaders featured about one-quarter of the field picking up wagering points, with just six teams earning bonus points with three correct answers.  Other third round topics included African geography, the albums of Pink Floyd, and this animated TV series:

After jetting off to the Prado museum to view the Diego Velazquez work “Las Meninas”, we did not see any teams earn a perfect third round score.

FOURTH ROUND:

Wednesday’s final round began with a question regarding the novel which served as the basis for this classic film:

Later, we asked the most difficult wagering question of the night, as only 19% of our teams earned points on a question concerning Oedipus and the mystery of the Sphinx which guarded the city of Thebes.  After closing the round with a look at Triple Crown winning thoroughbreds, we saw three teams earn 36 points in the final stanza: Kitten Mittens (Quinn’s), Pickled (Beef ‘O’ Brady’s), and Amigos (Clover Theater).  These were your highest scoring Wednesday teams after four rounds of play:

WEDNESDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (71.2% success rate):

–> George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama each had two.  Teddy Roosevelt had about 50.  Donald Trump is the first president in over a century to not have any.  For your wager, what are we talking about?

The topic came up at a recent rally held by the President, as he is the first Commander-in-Chief in over a century to not have a pet.  Nearly three-quarters of our teams responded correctly, leading to eight teams earning the Perfect 21 by answering all wagering questions correctly.  In what has become the norm on Wednesday night, the final leaderboard was once again dominated by the stellar teams at Quinn’s.  It must be a World Series atmosphere every week!  Here is your final overall leaderboard from Wednesday night:
