Season XVII Finale Weekend!

Another fantastic regular season closed this weekend with 52 teams across four venues:

FIRST HALF:

Early topics from this weekend included film of 2018, the folk tales of “A Thousand and One Arabian Nights”, and this former brand:

Blockbuster

Our audio questions dealt with comediennes and events of 2004.  The most difficult first half question of the weekend was asked on Friday:

–> If John and Joe are first cousins and they each have one child, what is the familial relationship between their two children?

Exactly half of our teams responded correctly with second cousins.  In each of the first two rounds, exactly five teams notched perfect scores.

HALFTIME:

Halftime topics included 21st century TV series, comic strip characters, and upcoming June events and holidays.  Our weekend teams averaged 17.1 points on their halftime page, with three teams notching a perfect score of 20 points.  Here are the halftime leaders from the weekend:

SECOND HALF:

Friday third round included questions on the classic TV sitcom “The Beverly Hillbillies” and the song “Message in a Bottle” by The Police.  Our Saturday teams struggled to remember the name of this former baseball star:

Garvey

For both nights this weekend, the most difficult wagering question of the night was asked in the final round.  First, our Friday teams dealt with this question in the category of Three Clues / One Body of Water:

CLUE 1: Europe’s longest river empties into this body of water.

CLUE 2: Four of the five nations that border this body of water were members of the former Soviet Union.

CLUE 3: Its name is a bit of a misnomer since it is actually a lake, and it happens to be the largest lake in the world.

Only seven of our 29 Friday teams responded correctly with the Caspian Sea.  Meanwhile, this question was a bit of a head-scratcher for our Saturday teams:

–> Name any two of the three solo artists who have each held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for at least 50 cumulative weeks.

While most of our Saturday teams correctly guessed Elvis Presley, very few teams earned their wager with either of the other two correct answers of Mariah Carey or Rihanna (sorry, Michael Jackson fans!).  While none of teams earned perfect scores in the final round, three teams picked up 36 points each in the third stanza: Smarty Pants (Belles’), Give Us Your Beer Money (Pretzel & Pizza Creations), and Quality Guesswork (Pretzel & Pizza Creations).  Here are your weekend’s top scores after four rounds of play:

FRIDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (77.3% success rate):

–> According to scientists, which of the five senses is most strongly affected during pregnancy, due to elevated levels of estrogen?

SATURDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (18.2% success rate):

–> Published in 1877, which book written in the first person is set up as an autobiography of sorts, narrated by a title character that was almost given the name Ebony?

The two answers we were looking for were smell and “Black Beauty”.  None of our weekend teams earned the Perfect 21 by answering correctly on all wagering questions.  Here are your top weekend scores:

An honorable mention goes out to Mad Facts: Query Road (Vanish Brewery), who recorded 161 points on Friday night, but was playing “over the limit”.
