Belles’ Sports Bar in Frederick, MD
Happy Easter to you all and thanks again for coming out to Belles for some pre-holiday Pour House Trivia. We had eight teams in the contest tonight and it went all way down to the last round in a close scoring game. First round featured categories ranging from an over-under related to national flags to Jimmy Fallon returning to Saturday Night Live for as the guest host. We also talked about a couple of recent films that started with the letters Z-O-O, which included this sequel and box office bomb from last year:
Round two had an “angelic” audio clue featuring Madonna, Aerosmith, and Shaggy, followed up with some firewood measuring, and the last letter of the Greek alphabet in context to the Book of Revelation. We also had a couple of pairings in the game, one being the Koch brothers, and they other this comely couple of the 90’s voted People Magazine’s sexiest couple alive:
Half time puzzle had a “sticky” top half, while on the bottom you just had to tell us if a particular entity’s title was or was not hyphenated. We went on into round three from there with some less than stellar NBA team records, the first appearance of Popeye in the mainstream, and visited the shores of Lake Victoria within the depths of Africa. For a blitz question you had to tell alphabetize these Disney characters in 60 seconds or less:
We entered into fourth round with scores still very close, with the only question providing any daylight between the teams being the current FX Network series Legion, but it really didn’t do too much damage as most of the teams weren’t up to snuff on their current X-Men lore. We had a few teams give us Thousand Island dressing rather than Russian for Sean Spicer’s tasty little joke at the expense of the mainstream media from last week, and a few teams as well thought Cadillac instead of Buick for the three clues question. There was great success at identifying this Robert Redford classic film about fictional baseball prodigy Roy Hobbs:
Three-quarters of the teams nailed the final question, the Roman Senator that betrayed Julius Caesar alongside Brutus. Here are the results:
First Place: Uncle Jack (five in a row!)
Second Place: Demented & Sad, but Social
Third Place: Smarty Pants
Again, I hope you have a wonderful Easter, and come back next week where our first category will be Software Engineering.

Pretzel and Pizza Creations in Hagerstown, MD
I was a little worried about how many players were going to make it out to Pretzel & Pizza Creations on the Saturday night before Easter Sunday, but we still ended up with a very good turnout! So I would like to say “Thank You” to everyone who made it out AND for giving me such a exciting game to watch from start to finish! Even our winners in 1st place hadn’t had a top three finish for two or three months, but they had a perfect night tonight, answering every question correctly with a 20 point puzzle page on top of it!!
By the time we reached the 6-4-2 bonus question, it was pretty clear who our top three would be, just not the order. After the final question was answered, we had Off Beats in 3rd, Give Us Your Beer Money finished 2nd, and having a PERFECT night at the plate to cruise to their first, 1st place victory in a long while was We Are Groot!! Since the correct answer on tonight’s final question was Cassius, they decided to choose Muhammad Ali for next week’s winners choice category, so have a Happy Easter, and I’ll see everyone on Saturday for the next battle at Pretzel & Pizza Creations!
