Sacré Bleu! Thursday Night Trivia!

Thursday night’s game of Pour House Trivia welcomed 117 teams across 15 venues:

FIRST ROUND:

Opening round topics from Thursday night included the upcoming “Mary Poppins” film, former student-athletes from the University of North Carolina, and this scavenger:

Thirteen teams ran the table in the first round with 36 points.

SECOND ROUND:

Musical acts with ‘edible’ names highlighted Thursday’s audio question as we listened to songs from Korn, Bread, and Meat Loaf.  We opened up the biology textbook on a question concerning lichen before opening up a pair of Jules Verne novels.  Next, we snacked on this sweet treat promoted by tennis champ Roger Federer:

After closing the first half with a question regarding Greek mythology, we saw nine teams earn a perfect second round score.

HALFTIME:

“Invisible” film scenes and Nobel Prize winners were the featured topics on Thursday’s halftime round.  Slightly more difficult than normal, this halftime page yielded seven perfect scores and an overall average of 14.8 points.  These were your ighest scoring teams at Thursday’s halftime break:

THIRD ROUND:

We opened Thursday’s third round with the topics of World War I and Kawasaki motorcylces, before stumping most of the field with this question in the category of shared titles:

I’m not sure why the text on this album cover is so small…

If you can’t read it (which I am sure is true for most of you), the title is “Up All Night”.  Only 13% of our teams earned points on this question.  After a look at the historical works of Shakespeare, we closed the third round with a Triple 50/50 question, asking our teams to name the older sibling in each of these pairs: Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Chris and Luke Hemsworth.  Our teams fared well here (with the correct answers of Maggie, Kendall, and Liam), but the One Direction question kept the perfect scores completely off the board in the third round.

FOURTH ROUND:

After a “Run for the Roses:” in the 6-4-2 question, we discussed final round topics such as keratin, the opera “Nixon in China”, and the U.S. Bankruptcy code:

–> While Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code allows businesses to reorganize while maintaining operations, which other Chapter is actually more common, as it details the process for the liquidation of a company?

Only 31% of the field responded correctly with Chapter 7.  Later, we offered up the most difficult bonus question of the night on a question regarding this film character:

Only seven teams earned the final two bonus points of the evening, as they knew that Daisy was the name of John Wick’s dog.  As a result, Syn Storm (Champion Billiards) posted the only perfect score of the final round.  These were your highest scoring Thursday teams heading into the final question:

THURSDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (21.3% success rate):

–> Among the six official languages of the United Nations, which one has the fewest native speakers worldwide?

The six official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.  For some of the teams that knew the languages on this list, coming up with the correct answer boiled down to a coin flip between France and Russia.  In the end, just over one-in-five teams overall picked up points on the last question with the correct answer of French.  Unfortunately, none of our teams earned Perfect 21 honors on Thursday, as every team missed at least one wagering question.  Here is your final Thursday leaderboard:
