Run the Wildcat Formation for Wednesday Night Trivia!
Our busiest night of the week began its Season XV schedule with 12 games on the docket. Many of our top teams from Sunday’s World Series were back in action ready to get a jump on the competition for this season. Most of our teams cruised through the first half before a vicious third round truly separated the best from the rest. Let’s see which teams emerged from that round unscathed and topped the field:
WEDNESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (86 teams across 12 venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Dusty Baker School of Management (Bennigan’s – Clarksburg) with 165
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Contribution (Woodside Deli) with 158
–> Highest First Half Score: Pen Island (Barefoot Bernie’s) with 92
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Dusty Baker School of Management and Contribution
–> Even though it’s only the first week, the ‘K Logos’ halftime theme could end up being the easiest of the season, as about 60% of our teams scored 20 points, with an overall average of 19.2.
–> The third round provided our teams with a complete 180, as the overall correct answer percentage reached just 52%, with only a handful of teams going 5-for-5.
–> About 24% of our teams scored six points on the 6-4-2, by knowing that the Isaac Asimov novel “The Positronic Man” was adapted for the big screen in the form of the Robin Williams film “Bicentennial Man”.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (54.9% success rate):
–> Founded in 1851, which university was created to serve the territory that included areas of what are now Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and parts of Minnesota? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Pour House Trivia Season XV kicked off here at Valley Grill in Middletown, thanks again to you all for your continued support! We found out the quantity of Middle-Earth bling to be ruled by the One Ring, remembered Kevin Costner’s directorial debut, and revisited a popular video game character of the 2000’s decade:
Round two featured a few bands fronted by females, an entertainment company formerly run by a female, and a Victor Hugo work with a character infatuated with a female:
After a cakewalk through halftime, the third round roughed up a few teams due to some fractional math, Scrabble scoring, and 20th Century U.S. Presidents. After the final round eased up a bit, we had an unprecedented four-way tie for first going into the final, which eventually took a three-way tiebreaker to resolve. Here are the results and congrats to our first place team for their first PHT win!
First Place: The Gang Ruins Trivia
Second Place: Southpaw Fish
Third Place: Shakeweight
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50 (AUDIO): “Archer” or “Bob’s Burgers”?
We had a great start to Pour House Trivia Season XV, but especially so for one team at The Tavern on Wednesday! How great a start you ask? They only answered EVERY Question correctly from Round 1 through the final!! (pretty good start to the season if you ask me!) Our top 3 ended up looking like this…
Moving up into 3rd after the final was Moving Forward, holding onto 2nd was Olney the Lonely, and 1st place went to the team that got every question right, including a perfect puzzle page, Ollie the Bobcat Fan Club!!
They picked the O.J. Simpson Trial for next week’s first category, so study up and come have some fun with us on Wednesday at The Tavern!!

There are nights where you have to be on the tip top of your tippy toes, and if you miss a single bonus there’s no way you’re going to make it on to the podium. This was not one of those nights… Teams were working for it tonight, and much like weebles – they wobbled but they didn’t fall down! It was indeed a fun game, teams were surprised all over the place! I like announcing those tough questions. I know at least half of you googled Scrabble letter point values the break.
The final tonight moved some things around again, and by some mathematical miracle it was Flight Level Awesome in third place, while Constantly Changing Team Name was invigorated by Marty’s arrival and took second. Our winner tonight was the team formerly known as Tokyo Sex Whale, now playing as Kobe Buffalo Meat. Both of those team names are honest to goodness people. You can Google it. Love it!
Next week’s first category: Super Bowl Commercials.
Our first game of Pour House Trivia of Season XV was a wild one here in Bennigan’s in Frederick! Teams were up and down and all over the board as we slogged our way through four rounds of trivia!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Hey-Now-Just-Because-You-Didn’t-Know-It…”: Garbage was a tough pull tonight on the audio question. Cue the “They must be garbage then!” comments. Very clever everyone, you’re the pinnacle of wit. Just because you didn’t know who they were… ;P
In “Third-Rounds-From-Hell”: Tonight’s third round was absolute murder on the field; top teams dropped more than a few points and fell out of contention, while lower teams struggled to try to regain any ground. It was a hot mess from start to finish, and shook things up drastically!
In “Movie-Homework”: Clearly Samuel L Jackson’s famous Ezekiel speech from “Pulp Fiction” isn’t as well known as I expected, because the Baked Good Brands question was one of the big misses tonight. It took all my willpower not to shout “Say What Again!” when teams questioned the answer afterwards xD
Correct answers were crucial on Final tonight!
In third place tonight, in a nice little comeback, Momentary Lapse of Reason!
In second place tonight, house Scrabble champions apparently, Simple Minds!
In first place tonight, one of the only teams to get out of the third round alive, BTF!
Great game tonight guys! Next week we’re gonna kick things off with, and I quote, “Trump’s Big League Cabinet Picks”. Take that as you will; study up and we’ll see you next time!
In what was my last appearance at Woodside (sorry, guys!), we still managed to have some serious fun. Sarcasm was abound. Jokes flew freely. Best of all, Chief got to introduce team Fellowship to the brilliance that is “Pulp Fiction” and Samuel L. Jackson’s Ezekiel speech. It was an absolute blast to be able to play the YouTube clip once the answer had been given. I could see other teams mouthing the (famous) words as they were being broadcast over the speaker. Super fun!
As expected with the commencement of Season XV, many regular teams changed their names. It shouldn’t take Scott, my replacement, too long to familiarize himself with the crazies… I mean, patrons. A huge shout-out to Alternative Facts who managed to place third, despite flying solo for the night. An outstanding performance, sir!
I will sincerely miss everyone’s sense of humor and their acceptance of mine. I hope you all continue to find success and enjoy the game just as much, if not more, under the tutelage of Scott. Here are your top three teams:
First Place: Contribution
Second Place: High Water Mark
Third Place: Alternative Facts
Next week’s first category: Hotel Chains
Honorable mention: Team Fellowship, who always found a chance to use “Harambe” as an answer, for their persistence. This team crushes the first half but somehow gets sidetracked during the second. I wish them all the best of luck.
Signing out… Fair Winds and Following Seas,
Next week’s first category: “Casablanca”
Tonight began the first game of Season XV as we saw a large number of teams coming out tonight to face off for the first prize of the new season! A bunch of our usuals here, changing up team names but still the same crews! Good to see people coming back for what hopes to be the best season of PHT yet! Don’t Call Me Shirley last week told me how one of their members (Greg) could hypnotize people, and has done some hypnosis on his wife… Well, maybe he did a little on me too because tonight they were calling themselves Rhymes with Orange and A) I don’t remember that being their name and B) I didn’t think ANYTHING rhymed with orange… I believe I have been mesmerized!
Going into the half, Rhymes with Orange was looking mighty strong but Dusty Baker led, coming off a 2nd place finish at the World Series of Trivia this past Sunday. Dusty Baker looked to make a mark early this season and let the teams know who was the top dawg here. No troubles for them during the 3rd round, but the 6-4-2 got a bit interesting… Dusty Baker elected to go for the 6 point bonus but missed it, giving teams room to close the gap.
The gap was significantly small going into the final, as Dusty Baker led by only two points to Rhymes with Orange. The final question played decently difficult tonight BUT the top 2 teams did manage a correct get so Dusty Baker wins the first game of Season XV! Rhymes with Orange, a threat, they take 2nd! Looking like this season is gonna be a fun one! A hella close game tonight, we’ll see what next week has in store for us! Until then 😉
Next week’s first category: Marvel Comics
We got our Season XV started off at Memories with Mount Airy with some jokes, some light scolding, and yet another team named “Alternative Facts”. If you’ve taken a look at the standings for the first week, you might notice that it is a rather popular team. Seriously, there are eight teams now named Alternative Facts across all of Pour House Trivia. Maybe some of you will get tired of the joke after a couple of weeks and move on to something else.
Anyway, we hit another ‘synchronicity’ moment, when three teams thought they were funny by submitting, “Kangaroot” as our marsupial. Sadly, it was only funny the first time. But hey, I’ll take it over a double tiebreaker any day…
We made it to our final pretty bunched up… and then a big leaderboard change from misses on the final! Here is what our final leaderboard looked like tonight:
First Place: Satan’s School for Girls
Second Place: LOWL
Third Place: Polyamorous Virgins
Satan’s School takes down the first week of Season XV, and selects Flightless Birds as next week’s first category.
Tonight at the Furnace in Thurmont we had a close game to open up Season XV of Pour House Trivia! The game came down to strategic wagering on the final category of American Universities. Team Wolfpack and Breafast for Dinner were tied a the top of the leaderboard: Wolfpack bet zero, while Breakfast for Dinner bet one. When neither team was able to come up with the correct answer, the strategy of betting zero paid off as Team Wolfpack came out on top. In second place was Breakfast for Dinner and in third place we had Member Berries.
Next week’s first category: The Kardashians
I love the smell of a new season of trivia! The new teams are always shaking things up! At Barefoot Bernie’s, we had eight teams tonight, with lots of newcomers. Welcome to everyone!
Last week, the team formerly known as Does He Look Like a Biff? chose Alternative Facts as their winner’s choice category, then chose Alternative Answers as their new name for Season XV. Headed into the final, newcomers We’re On Break were in third, Alternative Answers were in second, and Pen Island (formerly Taint Too Proud to Beg) was in first, where they held on the entire game. With a final question answered correctly by most teams, the ranks didn’t change, and Pen Island chose Superbowl Winning Quarterbacks as their winner’s choice for next week. See you all after the big game!
What a great way to start off Season XV here at Applebee’s in Waynesboro! This one was extremely competitive all the way to the end. To give you an idea of just HOW close it was, at one point we had three different ties at the same time among our seven teams tonight. Teams bounced back from a tough third round to give us an epic finish with Alternative Facts being the only team to get the final question, vaulting them into first place for a come from behind victory. Here were your top three teams:
First Place: Alternative Facts
Second Place: Give Us Your Beer Money
Third Place: Bees?
Next week’s first category: Original 151 Pokemon
It looks like it’s time to dust off Pokemon Go and study up. We’ll see you next week!
Our new season started with twelve teams on the quest to get their name on our almost life-size statue of R2D2. At half-time, only 13 points separated the entire field. After that, Let’s Get Quizzical began to pull away and they sealed the deal with some smart wagering in the Final Question.
First Place: Let’s Get Quizzical
Second Place: Brainy Yaks
Third Place: Southern Comfort
Next week’s first category: Stock Options
