Remember Monday Night Trivia!

We have just two more weeks until Christmas, and with Season XIV winding to a close, we once again found some real World Series contenders playing on Monday night.  Which teams rose to the top of the leaderboard?

MONDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (39 teams across six venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 176

–> Highest Score after Round 4: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) and Kitten Mittens (Spider Kelly’s) with 164

–> Highest First Half Score: The A Team (Il Forno) with 90

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): What Else Could It Be!? (Greene Turtle), High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s), Jimmy’s in Vegas (Spider Kelly’s), Balls of Fire (Il Forno)

–> The halftime page played to a slightly higher than average score of 18.1, but there must have been one or two very difficult questions, as only Jimmy’s in Vegas scored a perfect 20 points.

–> The 6-4-2 question was rather easy for many teams, as nearly half of the field knew that the derivation of the name Cinderella.

MONDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (23.2% success rate):

–> With the recent move of the Rams back to Los Angeles, which city of 1.4 million residents is now the most populous city in the U.S. without an NFL team playing home games in its metropolitan area? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)

DRP in Alexandria, VA

There was no trivia at DRP last night.  Chris will be back on Dec. 19th!

Greene Turtle in Hagerstown, MD

Tonight’s game started early because of the Ravens playing on Monday Night Football.  We started out asking about the movie “Christmas Vacation”, asking about the song that Aunt Bethany starts singing after the explosion from sewer gas, which a few teams knew was The Star Spangled Banner.  The halftime page tonight asked teams to identify different drink brands, as well as identifying a list of items which turned out to be related because of Seinfeld, like Kramer, The English Patient, and nose picking.

The final question was about sports geography and ended up being pretty tough for most teams.  Only one team got it right, which led to The Cobras taking third place, That’s A Niner taking second, and What Else Could It Be?!?! taking the win!  Next week we go back to normal time (apparently the Skins don’t matter), and we start with a question about the children’s TV show Paw Patrol… Sounds fun.  I’ll see you all then!

Until next time,

~ Chad

Morgan Inn in Woodbine, MD

Back again at Morgan Inn here in Woodbine for some Monday night Pour House Trivia!  Some classic country music was our first category tonight, chosen by our illustrious first place winners from last week.  Round two featured a pair of contemporary actors and a pair of animals from “down under”.  Tonight’s 6-4-2 featured a story that was known for numerous shoe fittings, and the final round featured some good drugs to get you dancing.  Here are the results:

First Place:  Men & Pausers

Second Place: Riverbenders

Third Place:  Morgan Inn

Next week’s first category:  “The Brady Bunch”

Hershey’s Restaurant in Gaithersburg, MD

hings got pretty exciting at the end of our game at Hershey’s Restaurant Monday night! We had one team in 1st for the entire game but another team kept pace and slowly shrunk the gap with each passing round. By the time we reached the final question, they had fought their way into a two way tie for 1st! Both teams wagered the full 12 on it and BOTH teams answered correctly! The tie breaker was just as crazy with the teams being only 11 and 14 years off respectively from the answer (Magellan’s year of death-1521). The best come from behind victory I have ever witnessed so far happened! In 3rd place we had Dangerous Curves, Taking the brutal tie break loss to drop to 2nd for the first time of the game was Smellanella, and becoming the best comeback win I’ve seen AND keeping their current 1st place streak alive was the Detroit Lions Fan Club!! They decided to keep me singing again for next weeks winners choice, “Jon Sings Bruce Springsteen”, so study up and come join the fun with us next Monday at Hershey’s Restaurant!!

Uno Pizzeria in Frederick, MD

Another cold Monday night, another hot game of Pour House Trivia here at Uno’s!  It was a hard fought battle all night, and I think we learned some valuable lessons tonight.  Like, that Janet Jackson is definitely known for some things, but attacking Jay-Z is not one of them.  There is apparently multiple correct ways to say zoological (so NYAH!) and that the populations of U.S. cities are not a strong point among the teams.  It’s also clear that Third Quarter Nosedivitis is a very real condition, which is very difficult to recover from.  Oh and no one has ever heard of Darkman.  No one.  Even among the bartenders, managers, and random people walking by who happened to be listening in at the time.

When all was said and done, in second place tonight was Manischewitz and the Grapes of Wrath, and taking it down tonight, in first place Cher’s Zombie Army!

Good game tonight guys; next week we’ll kick things off with a Triple 50/50 Luke or Owen Wilson! Should be fun! Study up, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,

Ian

Wilson Brothers Trivia

Spider Kelly’s in Arlington, VA

The 12 days of Christmas brought seven teams to Spider Kelly’s tonight.  All veteran teams, and we even enjoyed a visit from H.R. Puff ‘n’ Stuff!  Round 1 garnered lots of points for our teams, although High School Prom was the only one brave enough to guess on our three clues question to earn the bonus.  The last question became a contest to see who could get the answer to me the fastest since these locals all knew the answer was Smithsonian!  There was no foolin’ these teams in round 2, but only one team, Walking Talking Stephen Hawking, guessed the year right on the nose on the last question.

Teams had fun on the half time puzzle, especially once they realized they were all  Seinfeld references.  EVERYONE knew Scrappy Solange for her famous elevator brawl, but only two teams got the cyborg bonus on the last question in round 3.  Round 4 was a breeze for most, except the last question regarding Liam Neeson in Darkman – I guess not everybody’s a fan!

The final question SOUNDED like an easy one – many teams scurried to me quickly with St Louis as their answer.  Only two teams got it right and answered correctly with my hometown – SAN ANTONIO!  Scores were close throughout, but the winners were:

First Place: High School Prom

Second Place: Jimmy’s in Vegas

Third Place:  Kitten Mittens

Next week’s first category:  “BoJack Horseman”

Cheers!

BoJack Horseman Trivia

Il Forno Pizzeria in Frederick, MD

Another night of trivia at il Forno, another good game among the teams competing. The weather seemed to ease up a bit on us; I froze my butt off all weekend and tonight it didn’t feel so bad. That’s always a nice surprise when we expect to get slammed by the cold and it just didn’t happen! One of the many things to look forward to tonight!

Last week Stink Floyd took it to EVERYONE winning his 2nd in a row, tonight he looked ready to add to the streak. The A Team was just too tough tonight however, putting up close to a perfect first half and looking like they were gonna run away with this one. The A Team led by a good margin at half; Stink Floyd was tied with MC nearly the whole game. Balls of Fire put together quite a great game too, holding 2nd place for most of it.

The A Team showed no signs of a slow-down in the 2nd half, as they kept their lead and were up 8 points going into the final question. A correct answer on the final would win them the game. However, this didn’t happen for them. A miss from the 1st place dropped them a bit, ruining their shot at winning tonight even after a brilliantly played game. 2nd place Balls of Fire DID get it correct so they move into the top spot and take down the win! Good game! 2nd place to MC who also got the final correct! 3rd to The A Team after a miss and a good game! We’re back next week for more Season 14 action! Hopefully the weather stays cool and not FREEZING…

I’m not so optimistic though 🙁
