il Forno – Frederick, MD

Season 12 continued tonight at il Forno where we had a handful of teams competing to win the prizes! Unlike the NFL game we were all forced to watch (Chargers and Steelers? Really?), tonight’s live trivia game featured electrifying action, high scores, and great fun! A couple of new teams came out to join us tonight too, which we were happy about! Always great when new teams come out to join us!

Let’s talk about reading, shall we? I got my college degree in English Language & Literature. With that resume, you’d assume I would know how to read. Well, the jig is up, the news is out, they finally found me. I cannot. Mispronouncing everything tonight, I’ve been spotted. Yes. It’s true. I am an idiot. Peugeot, Islamorada, Conciliations, and it doesn’t help that the words that I know how to pronounce are the only ones given the phonetic spelling for me on the answer page. Patrick can take over duties next week; I’m a better player any way.

Tonight’s question of the night was the Physics question! “Fun with Physics” was the category title. All but one team seemed to have NO fun with this one, every team getting it wrong except for Quick Pink and the Vine Gang. Quarks are divided into six flavors. It’s true, it’s true! Luckily, I don’t believe anyone bonused it. Had it been “FUN” with Physics, would we have seen more bonus chips flock towards it? Patterns in bonusing and play style lead me to believe, yes, yes we would.

With that, the teams were all pretty close together going into the final for our U.S. State Capital question! QP held the lead, I’m with Sarah close behind though, after blowing their 9 on the very first question of round one. Sarah would need a miss by QP to complete the comeback! Well, they didn’t get it! Quick Pink locked down the W with a correct response on the final, and before I even announced the final scores, they were on their way up to tell me what next week’s category was gonna be. 2nd place, I’m with Sarah. 3rd place, Off in Public. Great game all! Back in 1 week, can’t wait! Until then guys, lata!

1st Place: Quick Pink and the Vine Gang
2nd Place: I’m with Sarah
3rd Place: Off in Public

Next week: Screw “U” Bill, the letter U in quotations…

Roast House Pub – Frederick, MD

The Roast House is on fire this season! This has to be the most
competitive we’ve ever been, as tough teams have been packing in week
in and week out for Pour House Pub Trivia; tonight was no exception!

Highlights of the Night:

In “You-Like-Me-You-Really-Like-Me”: If you know anything about the
current atmosphere of the Roast House, you know there’s a lot of
ribbing and joking and bantering among the teams and myself. So when I
have to put on performance for a first round category such as “Ian
Sing’s Little Shop of Horrors”, its always nice when everyone drops
the goofing for a minute for some applause at my singing attempts.
Thanks guys!

In “Holy-High-Scores-Batman!”: The puzzle page tonight was one that
everyone had a bead on; no team scored lower than 18 points on it!
Good job guys!

In “Head-Scratching-Answers”: Everyone in the Roast House was of two
minds with the James Lipton question’s bonus answer. Everyone put Will
Ferrell or Robin Williams. Dave Chappelle wasn’t even on anyone’s
radar. Tough one!
The final tonight was crucial; after several teams went up down in the
standings, it was still incredibly close and everyone was in it. So
when the dust settled, correct answers were key!

In third place tonight, Gang of Four! There were only three of them
tonight, but still a good job!

In second place tonight, in a heartbreaking tiebreaker loss, Three
Finger’s Worth! tough break guys but a great game nonetheless!

In first place tonight, as a duo and pulling out a clutch tiebreaker
win, Interrobang?! These guys are on top of their game and are making
their presences known at the Roast House!

Next week we’re gonna start the game off with World Capital Word Play!
Should be fun!

Until then,
Ian

World Capitals Live Trivia Maryland

Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA

Thanks to all the teams for braving the Columbus Day tourist traffic to join us for a little trivia at Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon.  I don’t think half of our players knew it was a holiday…  Anyway, after several weeks of finishing in second or third thanks to the wicked nature of tiebreakers, Jimmy’s in Vegas took down their first win at SK’s in more than two months.  Rocket Surgeons took second with High School Prom breaking their winning streak to take third.  Next week’s game begins with a question on the English Premier League (soccer for those of you who don’t feel like looking it up).  ~ Matt
