One Last Game Before the BIG DAY!

With the PHT World Series less than 24 hours away, our weekend teams geared up with one last game, as we welcomed 37 teams across four venues:

FIRST HALF:

Our first half topics included opening chapter titles in novels, the early days of “The Simpsons”, and this “southernmost” landmark:

Our Saturday teams dealt with several wicked bonus questions, including the year of the ancient eruption of Mount Vesuvius (79 A.D.), and the city which once home to a WNBA team named the Sol (Miami).  The most difficult wagering question of the first half was asked on Friday:

–> The 9th and 23rd U.S. Presidents shared which surname?

It ALWAYS helps to study up on the order of the Presidents, but only five of our Friday teams earned points by responding correctly with Harrison.  After one half of play, only one team had earned a perfect score in either of the first two rounds: The More You Know (Springfield Manor Winery):

HALFTIME:

The weekend’s halftime topics included films which won the Best Picture Oscar and celebrities known for their headwear.  The overall average score hit 17.1 points, with four teams earning perfect scores.  Here are the weekend’s top scores at the halftime break:

SECOND HALF:

Friday’s Three Clues question was rather wicked, with just two teams earning bonus points:

CLUE 1: His most recent on-screen appearance is in the low-budget independent film “Dear Dictator”.

CLUE 2: He was born as Maurice Micklewhite, but later took his stage name as a reference to a Humphrey Bogart film.

Once we referenced the film “Alfie”, most of our teams were able to snag their wager with the correct answer of Michael Caine.  Meanwhile, the third round was a breeze for Saturday teams, as five teams ran the table with 36 points.  In the final round, our Saturday teams were asked to name the most recent winner of “Dancing With the Stars”, with just two teams taking home the last two bonus points by knowing it was Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon:

The only team to sweep our final round this weekend was Crudely Drawn Penis (Belles’ Sports Bar).  Here are the weekend’s highest scores heading into the final question:

FRIDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (25.0% success rate):

–> If you were to dial “1-TOM-AND-HUCK”, you would get the convention and visitor’s center of this American town of about 18,000 residents.  For your wager, give me the name of this city AND its home state.

SATURDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (37.5% success rate):

–> On CNBC’s list of the top ten advertising icons of the 20th century, these two characters had common names that include the word “MAN”.  For your wager, name BOTH of these characters.

Friday’s correct answer was included Hannibal, Missouri  (home of Mark Twain), while Saturday’s two correct answers were the Michelin Man and the Marlboro Man.  None of our teams earned the Perfect 21 this weekend.  Here are the top overall scores on this final day before World Series XVII:
