No one has ever called us a goody two-shoes! Thursday’s Pour House Live Trivia Recap

Pour House pub quiz had a great night of live trivia action, with six games to wrinkle your brain!

Here’s your TOTALLY NOT TRUE FACTS of the night!

  • There are four pecks in a bushel, but there are NINE bushels in a blentle!
  • The original name for a mojito was a fizzy lime mint thing! I think the new one is better!
  • The Black Pearl was originally called the purple parakeet!

See the games!

Bunkers – Leesburg, Virginia

It was a doozy of a night of live trivia at Bunkers, and for the first time in what seems like forever, I didn’t make 10,000 puns! Aren’t you so glad?

I apologize again for my little bit of stickler-ness about those tv characters, but here’s the best of Steinbrenner to make up for it!

Here’s my favorite (sometimes) wrong answers of the night:
  • B.I.G. (Notorious) It was correct, but it made me giggle to see it written that way!
  • The three-word phrase for our final was NOT In A World… but I did appreciate that guess!
  • The propellant the UK calls Paraffin is NOT sucksickle, nor a distillation of Harrison Ford’s character in Air Force One!
In third, Cranius Maximus!

In second, Indians!

Atop the podium was Spam and other breakfast meats, who have chosen the olympics to kick it off next week!

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

It was all about the new crews tonight at our lil’ live trivia throw down at Champion Billiards in Frederick. We had some families in playing. We had some cornhole teams trying out another fun bar game. And we even had a blind date couple meet for the first time and have at some trivia together. I am a firm believer that pub trivia night is one of the best first dates you can have. We’ll see if we see them next week 🙂

Tonight’s game came down to the final and was decided by the final. It could have gone any number of directions, as it was a very close contest! However, i’d like to congratulate “Just For Fun” on there first night at Pour House Trivia and their WIN to go with it. Awesome stuff! And much congrats to the rest of the top three in a game well played!

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

Tonight’s game was dominated by Sic Semper Tyrannis most of the way, being the only team to snag a couple 2 point bonuses AND the 6 point answer on the 6-4-2… But the final question means a lot in our game. Sic Semper bet it quite defensively but after misses the final, they gave way for Fuggies to come back and take the win! Congrats Fuggies. 2nd place went to Sic Semper Tyrannis after a very well played game. 3rd place went to Humantaray. Thanks a lot guys. Trivia is ON next week, same time, same place! Hope you’ll be there!

1st Place: Fuggies
2nd Place: Sic Semper Tyrannis
3rd Place:Humantaray

Next week’s category: Celebrity Chefs

Guido’s – Frederick, MD

It was a nail-biter of a finish for trivia at Guido’s Speakeasy tonight! I had a tie for first place going into tonight’s final question, the category was “Familiar Phrases”, and the wagers were given. After time was called, the answers were brought up, and this is how tonight ended(without a tie, I might add)! Finishing 3rd tonight was None Pizza With Left Beef, moving up to 2nd was Murder on the Polar Express! And your game winners tonight, welcome back to the winners circle, Esophagus Now! They decided on “Olympic Decathalons” for next weeks winners choice category, so study up, and get into Guido’s next Thursday and see me!!  ~ Jon J

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD

Clever team name was back in the 1st place ring this week coming in at 158, followed by two new comers The gals, and Fish sticks. Really a well played game by all, including sound effects by some of our other teams. Next week get hyped up for 90s Hip Hop!

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

We welcomed a few new teams to Quincy’s on Thursday night, and they had a GREAT experience enjoying PHT for the first time.  As usual, more than a dozen teams battling it out, and a few came out of the gates on fire!  We had two teams: Uncle Jack and I Just Quizzed My Pants who went nearly perfect through the first half and tied the Pour House Record with 92 points at the break.  The second half gave a few teams some fits, as we tested their mettle in State Nicknames and the Oscars, but it was still anyone’s game as we headed into the final.  I Just Quizzed My Pants had a slight lead on the field, hoping to pull off their FOURTH WIN in a row.  Sure enough, they hit the final and made it a four-peat!  Not As Smart As We Look was back in the top three after a short absence with a second-place finish, with Lowered Expectations taking third.  I’m afraid I will not be hosting next week’s game, but you will be in the capable hands of Mr. Ronnie Barrett, and he will begin next week’s game with a question on the band Genesis.  See you then!  ~ Matt
