Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD

Tonight’s game of pub trivia ended up being pretty heavy on the sports categories, and all of it modern sports too! The opening category from last week’s winners was the 2015 NHL Season, and we had a question about the Miami Heat and Ichiro Suzuki (I had no idea he was on the Marlins now, I thought he was still a Yankee for sure). We also got to talk about the X-Men on the halftime page which some teams seemed to struggle with.

The final question tonight ended up being rather tough, with only one team getting it right. Unfortunately they were a bit too far behind for that to have an impact on the final standings. Nevertheless, I feel a shoutout to Danny Glover is needed for being the only team to get Almost Famous. Our final standings ended up largely the same as they were before the final question. In third place were the Cobras who bet zero on the final and wanted to change their wager upon hearing the question, thinking they had it right (lucky for them I didn’t let them!) In second place was Cotton Candy who also bet low, just enough to stay one point ahead of the Cobras in the standings. Our winners tonight started out jumping to a huge lead, then watched it slip away after the third round. They again pulled away, jumping to a nearly double-digit lead before the final question. That proved to be enough to salt away the win, leading to a repeat victory Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, congrats! Next week we start with some Classic Looney Toons as the opening category, that should be a fun one! That’s All Folks!

Until next time,

il Forno – Frederick, MD

Another Monday night with a bunch of my regulars, always good times. Thanks for coming out everyone! I’ve elected that tonight’s Question of the Night will be Horace Greeley: “Go west, young man!” A very famous quote that seemed to miss the knowledge bases of a lot of our teams. Greeley believed in the Manifest Destiny and westward expansion, an idea that eventually led to the major growth of cities like Los Angeles, Houston, Phoenix, and countless other top populated cities. Truly a good tidbit of knowledge to pack away. If you take anything away from tonight, remember those four words: “Go west, young man.” You won’t regret remembering that one. I promise.

Tonight’s game saw a strong performance by Chicken Mcthuggets as they led most of the game, and led going into the final question. Not far behind was MC and I’m with Sarah, tied at 143 just one point behind Chix McThug’s 144. There was truly a lot riding on one last question. The question played rather difficult; I only had 1 team in the bar get the correct answer. That team was I’m with Sarah and they take down the win! Congrats! 2nd place went to Chicken McThuggets who led most of the night but came up JUST shy, 3rd place to MC.

That’s how it wrapped up tonight, be sure to check out the website for the current standings. You’re gonna wanna try your hand at winning the house championship so you can get that auto-invite to World Series XI! Good luck to everyone in contention and fighting for the title. Even if you’re not fighting for the title, KEEP PLAYING WITH US! You’ll get a playoff invite and you can make some major noise at our tournament in June! We’re back here next week, same time, don’t be a stranger, come join us folks! Until then 😉

1st Place: I’m with Sarah
2nd Place: Chicken McThuggets
3rd Place: MC

Next week’s category: The Masters Golf Tournament

Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA

At Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon, a few of our regular teams were playing shorthanded tonight, so that opened the door for some interesting movement in the standings.  Eleven is a Prime Number seized the opportunity, and played a nearly flawless game as they locked down the win before the final question (which was great as they did not know the final question).  So, that gave a chance to chuckle at their final response which was officially deemed ‘not even close’.  Nonetheless, it was a very impressive performance as they were the only team to earn two-point bonuses on a number of questions.  Rocket Surgeons took second thanks to a strategic wager on the final, with There’s Always Money in the Banana Stand in third.  Next week, we begin with a question on The American Revolution.  ~ Matt
