Monday Trivia Loves to Laugh!

New PHT Logo

On Monday, Pour House Trivia was played by 155 teams across 15 locations, including our newest venue: Black Hog BBQ in Ashburn, VA.

FIRST ROUND:

In the first round, we started with a question on the the most populous cities in Louisiana. From there, we moved on to a three-parter on Latin abbreviations, the 50th anniversary of Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s MLB career home run record, and the living U.S. Presidents on either end of the age spectrum: Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. There were 27 teams with perfect scores in this round.

SECOND ROUND:

The second round was bookended by a couple of tough questions. An audio question with three B.C.-titled songs had a wagering rate of 45% and a bonus rate of 14.8%. At the end of the round, we asked about an infamous talk show interview:

  • In 2006, the author of a numerically titled book was grilled by Oprah after it was discovered that much of his book was fabricated, despite being marketed as a memoir. For your wager, either name the book or its author.

About 43% of the field named either A Million Little Pieces or author James Frey. In this round, perfect scores were earned by Demolition (DRP), Here for Kenny (Mark’s), and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (William Jeffrey’s).

HALFTIME:

Films set in the United Kingdom were shown at the top of the halftime page, while the bottom section asked teams to match companies to their current CEO. There were 36 perfect pages, but the average score was 16.3 points. At the halftime break, these were the top scores:

THIRD ROUND:

We traveled to Springfield in an indeterminate state for the night’s toughest wagering question:

  • Introduced in the early 1990s, The Simpsons character with the real name of Jeff Albertson is best known by which nickname?

The Comic Book Guy was identified by 27% of teams. We followed that with a query about a film director’s early nominations:

  • For which two films did Martin Scorsese earn an Oscar nomination for Best Director?

Only Team E’s (Whitlow’s) earned bonus points for naming both Raging Bull and The Last Temptation of Christ. With that, no perfect scores were recorded in this round.

FOURTH ROUND:

For the 6-4-2, 67 teams identified the color green for all six points. The last round started with questions about the video game Castlevania and the Barber twins of football. After that, we took a trip to Europe:

  • Traveling due east from Edinburgh, Scotland, one would enter the North Sea.  What are the first two countries (other than the United Kingdom) through which you would pass along this route?

Just 7.09% of the field named both Denmark and Sweden for bonus credit. No perfect scores were had in the fourth round. These were the highest scores after four rounds:

FINAL QUESTION (16.77% success rate):

  • Opens the Door, in the Kitchen, and in Cherry Tree Lane are partial titles for three of the eight books in a series that features which literary title character?

Those books are part of the Mary Poppins series. Monday’s Perfect 21 teams were Demolition (DRP) and H.R. Pufnstuf (DRP). These teams finished Monday’s game with the top scores:
