Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD

It’s always fun whenever I get to write questions for a trivia game, and tonight I got to write about the Hobbit, more specifically The Desolation of Smaug. That meant watching clips of it and scouring Google for a good question idea, and one did come to me: Barrel Rider! We also got to hear clips from Jim Carrey films, which would not have been complete without an Ace Ventura clip. The scene they played was the one in the insane asylum, which might be my favorite scene in that whole movie (Just gimme a chance coach!). We also had EA Sports (It’s in the game!) come up for almost no reason, but that did give me a good laugh. Unfortunately that’s only on the state flag for Florida, so I could not accept that.

However, we had yet another tough final that definitely swayed things. Seems to be a bit of a trend lately, eh? Oh well. In third place tonight was the team that was in first for a brief time before the final, Cotton Candy. They always seem to be lurking right around the top at the final question, but this time things didn’t shake out in their favor. In second place with a crafty zero wager was The Bends, who clearly didn’t like their odds with a Stock Market question. Our first place team tonight was the only one who got the final correct, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. Next time we will start with the 2015 NHL Season as the opening category. Unfortunately that won’t be for two weeks because trivia will be cancelled next week due to the NCAA championship game being that night. So I will see you all in two weeks!

Until next time,
-Chad

il Forno – Frederick, MD

It’s almost nice enough outside to stop wearing our jackets! I hope you all are as excited as I am for that! It’s been winter for like… 4 years or something. I’m sick, I’m done, I’m super pumped for a heat wave of some sort. Hopefully the nice weather won’t keep you away from your weekly live trivia night!

It sure didn’t tonight, as we had another rager over at il Forno! Latrilla & the Mossy Banks got a bit peeved with me early after my announced prediction that they’d take back-to-back wins tonight (though I was simply showing the confidence I had in them)! Well, I’ll be the first to admit I’m sorry if I jinxed ya. Even so, Latrilla finishes in 3rd, which is nothing to be ashamed of! 2nd place went to I’m with Sarah who, in fact, were with Sarah after a two week vacation she’d been on in Europe. Looks like the team was happy to have you back, taking one of the prizes home.

Tonight’s winners were first time winners (and if I do say so, I don’t think I’ve had a team play for so long, try so hard, and be so happy after receiving their first win). Let’s give some love to Much More Deeper who win the game tonight! And even better, they let me talk them into choosing Gilmore Girls for their winner’s choice category! Everybody wins tonight! Haha, what a great night! Good fun, good times, let’s keep it rollin’; I’m for next week, same time, same place. Be there, k? 😉

1st Place: Much More Deeper
2nd Place: I’m with Sarah
3rd Place: Latrilla & the Mossy Banks

Next week’s category: Gilmore Girls

Roast House Pub – Frederick, MD

Tonight’s game of pub trivia was a roller coaster ride! Ups and downs all night led to a wild finish!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Not-the-Masters-of-this-Question”: The Cartoon villains question stumped a lot of teams; I saw the Smurfs, Duck Tails, and the incorrectly stated He-Man (the show is Masters of the Universe). Thankfully no one said Captain Planet. That would’ve been hilarious!

In “Not-So-Happy-Days”: The Happy Days question saw a lot of teams wager high, only to come crashing down, unable to name two of the three characters who appeared in all 255 episodes. Tough one!

In “Fighting-An-Uphill-Battle”: New team Yo No Se, as a solo, was within striking distance all night, but unfortunately couldn’t break through the pack of veteran teams. Still, he ended the night only a few points down from the podium, so he earns an honorable mention tonight!

The final was a total whiff tonight, so defensive wagers were key!

In third place, Spring Break Frederick! Good job guys, way to hang tough!

In second place, wagering low but still dropping out of the top slot, Multiple Scorgasms! Tough break guys, but still a great game!

In first place, with the strategic 0 wager, Two Fingers Worth! Congratulations guys, well done!

For their round one question one category next week, TFW has chosen President Andrew Jackson! Get studying on him, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,
Ian

Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA

Down at Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon, we began with a little serenade courtesy of your humble host.  I didn’t butcher the late, great Cole porter too badly I hope…  It was a very close game, as out top two teams were essentially bouncing back and forth with the lead, but a crucial two-point bonus on the MLB World Series question enabled Unadjusted For Inflation to take a very slight lead heading into the final.  Was that perhaps a jinx?  The small lead forced them to bet big on the final, but when only one team got the last question, it was Eleven is a Prime Number that was able to get back into the winner’s circle.  UFI did take second, with Double Secret Probation in third.  Next week, our game begins with a question on Disney Princesses!  (No singing)   ~ Matt
