Missing Trivia Night Should be a Felony!

Wednesday night gave us a bit of a roller coaster ride, especially in the second half.  We included a slightly difficult question about Girl Scout cookies to start, and continued on to a question about a hummer (the car…).  The final round proved to be easy or most teams, but the final question was quite the stumper.  A few teams showed their might after coming up with the correct response on that difficult final question.  Who were our top scorers?

WEDNESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (51 teams across nine venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: We Need a Do Over (Woodside Deli) with 175

–> Highest Score after Round 4: Tokyo Sex Whale (Belles’) with 166

–> Highest First Half Score: Tokyo Sex Whale (Belles’) with 92

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Fat Kids Are Hard to Kidnap (Valley Grill), Tokyo Sex Whale (Belles’), We Need a Do Over (Woodside Deli), Steven Hawking’s Karaoke Machine (Memories)

–> Halftime was a breeze tonight, posting an extremely high average of 18.9, including 35% of our teams scoring a perfect 20.  Our 6-4-2 question was also easier than average, with about 40% of our teams knowing that the only surname shared by a 20th Century U.S. President and a 20th Century British Prime Minister is Wilson (Woodrow and Harold).

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (15.4% success rate):

–> Often heard in courtrooms and police stations, which English word is derived from an Old French term meaning ‘wicked’?  (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)

Valley Grill in Middletown, MD

Back again at Valley Grill here in Middletown for our Wednesday edition of PHT! 11 teams went at it tonight, and we had a few fresh faces as well.  Our first round went well although the Electoral College has been a sore subject for some as of late.  Our puzzle tonight was a “royal treat”, however our third round question on a 2009 film remake stumped a few.  The final question was a tough one tonight, with only three of the eleven teams getting it correct. Remember that there is NO TRIVIA at VG next Wednesday, so have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Here are the results:

First Place:  Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap

Second Place:  Shake Weight

Third Place:  Unique Up on It

First category on Nov. 30: NHL Career Leaders

The Tavern in Olney, MD

What an AWESOME game we had at The Tavern on Wednesday!  The teams were really playing well.  In fact, once we reached the final question, we had a two-way tie for 1st AND 3rd place!  Every team except one wagered 12, which somehow worked, because I did NOT have a tie after that!  Making a move from 5th to 3rd was In Last Place, dropping down to 2nd was Cy Young Winner Max Scherzer Fan Club, and the ONLY team to answer the final correctly was our 1st place winner, congratulations to Bam!!  They asked for an audio winners choice question, so next week will be,”1980’s Pop Songs Audio”! Study up and come join us next Wednesday for a little Pre-Thanksgiving fun at The Tavern!!

Bennigan’s in Frederick, MD

We had a packed house tonight here at Bennigan’s in Frederick!  Some recently displaced teams from across town mixed it up with the house vets for a hard-fought game of Pour House Trivia that came right down to the wire!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Three’s-Company-For-Trouble”: The three-part questions were doozies tonight, with every two-point bonus at a premium tonight, making and breaking certain teams during the slugfest.

In “Teams-With-Homework”: To those teams who were unable to identify Xena and/or Buttercup on the puzzle page tonight, you have until next week to acquaint yourselves.  There will be a quiz.  I will have essay questions prepped. 😉

In “Final-Question-Blues”: We had a total whiff tonight on the final; with malicious, perpetrator, and suspect making up the majority of the answers, felony was just a bit too far off peoples’ radars. How would that affect the standings?

In third place tonight, battling hard to hold on all night, Multiple Scorgasms!

In second place tonight, losing a tough tiebreaker after the final, Pop Vultures!

In first place tonight, pulling out the tiebreak win and taking it down, Tom Brady!

Great game everyone!  Next week WE ARE ON for trivia, so please come keep me company, as we kick the game off with a question about Xerox! Should be interesting to say the least. Study up, and we’ll see you next time!

Until then,

~ Ian

Bennigan’s in Clarksburg, MD

Tonight was our last night at Bennigan’s in Clarksburg before we take Thanksgiving break.  I hope everyone has a good holiday and I’ll see you all in two weeks!  I’m heading to Florida!  Warm weather, football, Harry Potter!  Gonna be fun…  Speaking of fun, tonight was an awesome time at trivia! Mostly regulars tonight, it was a close one.

Don’t Call Me Shirley held the lead at the half, the only team to break 90 points in the first part of the game.  Round 3 had a few brainbusters for the field but it was our 6-4-2 that made a serious difference!  Shirley waited for the 4 point clue while Roaming Gnomes grabbed the 6, sneaking into the lead after Round 4!

Roaming Gnomes led, only needed a correct response on the final to win. Well, only 1 team got the final right tonight. They would be crowned the victors! That team was Downtown Dinky Town, coming up with “felony” and winning tonight! 2nd place to We’ll Try Harder who bet defensively. 3rd place to Roaming Gnomes, still able to finish in the money.  Remember there is NO TRIVIA next week, so we’ll be back in TWO WEEKS for our next game.

Memories in Mount Airy, MD

We had ourselves quite a loud game this week, as the Caps put on a scoring clinic to the cheers of trivia teams.  With everyone in contention, scores were high and tensions higher as we arrived at a tough final that let a few teams sneak into the top three.

First Place:  Stephen Hawking’s Karaoke Machine

Second Place:  LOWL

Third Place:  Team Awesome

Don’t forget that there is NO TRIVIA next week, so we’ll be back on Nov. 30 with the rather broad topic of Batman.

I’ll see you guys after Thanksgiving!

Barefoot Bernie’s in Hagerstown, MD

Wednesday night mean that Barefoot Bernie’s was the place to be!  After a close five-point game between first and third through the end of the third round, everything shifted at the final.  Amazingly, no one got the final question correct, so it all came down to the strategic wager. “Taint Too Proud To Beg” took third place . “Blank Space” took second with a cunning 8 point wager.  And “Sad Fat Dragon” won again with a very keen 4 point wager. When you don’t know, bet low.

Remember that there is NO TRIVIA at Bernie’s on November 23rd.  But the following week, the first question will be about the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

See you then!
