Pour House pub trivia‘s Monday was a perfect cap to a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
We had a quintet of live trivia games on a gorgeous Monday evening – check em’ out!

Thanks to the teams for coming out on this fine Holiday to play some PHT here at DRP in Alexandria! We had both some new and some familiar faces facing off tonight! Here are the results of our game:

Before I start my recap, I just want to start out by saying happy Memorial Day to you all, and I hope you had a great weekend. Also, a big thank you to anyone who currently or used to serve in our military, you rock! Tonight we wrapped up the regular season for season 11 in a big way, with Danny Glover even supplying hilarious trophies for the first, second, and third place teams in the house standings. These trophies were amazing in that the 1st and 2nd place trophies were much smaller than the 3rd place trophy, which incidentally went to the team that finished in 3rd in the house standings, Danny Glover. Hmmm, I wonder what that could mean!?
Either way, in the end we had a tie for 2nd place in tonight’s game between Danny Glover and Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, with the tiebreaker being whoever guessed closest to the year that Smirnoff was founded. With two guesses that were not far apart at all, narrowly winning the tiebreaker was Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, who took 2nd place tonight. Danny Glover just wasn’t quite close enough on the tiebreaker, so they had to settle for 3rd.
Our winners tonight were in the lead heading into the final question, and managed to keep it that way. Winning the final game in season 11 was The Bends, congrats! Next week we will start our game with a question on the TV show Friends, so be ready for that! Good luck in the playoffs/pub crawl to my teams who will be participating in that! I’ll see you all next week!

And tonight’s game decided our Season 11 House Champion! Latrilla was up 3 points in the standing ahead of I’m with Sarah. If Latrilla finished ahead of Sarah tonight, the House Championship was theirs!
I’m with Sarah didn’t want to go down without a fight, so they made sure that they brought it. I’m with Sarah, ironically, was playing WITHOUT Sarah, the self-proclaimed back bone to the team (well, I guess she didn’t proclaim that, but her name is in the official team name, we’ve gotta think she has SOMETHING to do with their success). Sarah abandoned her team on the night that mattered most. In a must-win scenario, I’m with(out) Sarah managed to get a 7 person squad together in order to avoid elimination from the House Cup.
They came out firing, holding a lead after the first half of play, with Latrilla not far behind at all. After a decently difficult 2nd half, Latrilla dropped out of the top 3 and Sarah slumped into 2nd place with One Crow holding down 1st place.
The final question tonight could decide it all. Only 2 teams came up with a correct response on the final. 4play above the table was one of those 2 teams, who made a huge jump and managed a 2nd place finish in tonight’s game! Congratulations. One Crow missed it, dropping them from 1st to 3rd in the standings. Tonight’s winner was the only other team to get the final correct. Tonight’s winner also is the Season 11 House Champions.
Let’s give it up for I’m with(out) Sarah, who got the final correct, took down the victory when it mattered, and locked up the House Championship! Great game guys! We’ll see you at the World Series in 2 weeks. Until then guys, practice up! Bring your squads, play as much as you can, kick some serious ass at the playoffs! This is when it gets real. Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you had a nice, relaxing day,
making sure to take a moment to remember those who gave their lives in
service to our country. It’s important to do so! But still, doesn’t
mean we can’t have a little fun, and tonight’s game of Pour House
Trivia was just that at the Roast House! With even the Roast House
staff jumping into the fray, it was a wonderful Memorial Day evening!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Stop-Everything!-Ribs!”: When on Memorial Day a man walks in from
out back behind the bar, carrying a tray of fresh hot ribs off the
grill, and offers you a few, what else are you gonna be able to do but
stop and do so? Ribs for everyone! And they were goooooooood!
In “What-We-Have-Here-Is-A-Failure-To-Communicate”: The Equal Rights
Amendment almost caused a stir when I commented that hopefully we get
there soon, because we haven’t yet. Not because anyone disagreed with
me, but because a team wasn’t sure they had gotten credit for the
question. Near argument ensued. Whoops!
In “What’s-In-A-Name”: The Final tonight was a total stumper, although
there was one person in the bar who guessed correctly. But they
weren’t playing and had only just walked in when I was reading the
question, so it didn’t really count. Remember guys: Land -> Geo ->
George!
Strategic wagering was the name of the game for the final tonight!
In third place, Multiple Scoregasms! Don’t feel too bad for them
though; they took home the House Championship tonight! congratulations
guys!
In second place, as a Solo Artist, I just Quizzed in My Pants! Great game!
Taking it down tonight though, they were on “Fire” all night and could
not be stopped: The Ollie Monsters! Congratulations guys, a well
earned win!

Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA
Thanks to the teams that took time out from their holiday weekend to join us at Spider Kelly’s in Arlington! It was the last day of the season, and with that, we’ve crowned our house champions: the Rocket Surgeons! Scoring wins each of the last two weeks certainly helped. They were trying to pull the rare hat trick, as no team had won three games in a row all season. it was not in the cards for them, but they did manage to pull a third place finish. Unadjusted For Inflation took second, and with the strategic wager, it was Double Secret Probation that took down the win! Don’t forget – there WILL BE TRIVIA in one week. We DO NOT take any weeks off, so come back for our first category of Paul McCartney! ~ Matt
