Light Up a Cuban Cigar and Enjoy Some Thursday Night Trivia!
Another week of Pour House Trivia is in the books! Five weeks down in Season XIV, which means only 16 weeks until World Series XIV. Tonight we saw one team put up the HIGHEST score of the season, but would be it enough for them to reach the famed 180-point plateau and gain a spot on the Wall of Fame? Let’s find out!
THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (38 teams across five venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Breadsticks (Links at Challedon) with 179
** HIGHEST SCORE OF SEASON XIV THUS FAR **
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Breadsticks (Links at Challedon) with 167
–> Highest First Half Score: Your Mom (Bunker) with 91
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Just Good Enough (Champion Billiards), Crudely Drawn Penis (Champion Billiards), Vitrifiers (Champion Billiards), Rubber Sheets Club (Fish Market)
–> The halftime sheet was on the easier side tonight, as about 20% of our teams scored a perfect 20, with the overall average coming in at 17.9.
–> At the other end of the spectrum, the 6-4-2 was one of the hardest questions of the night, as ZERO teams scored six points, and only ONE TEAM (Thoroughly Screwed at Bunkers) was able to manage four points. Apparently, it is not a well-known fact that the company Best Buy was originally known as Sound of Music.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (46.4% success rate):
–> In September of 1960, which new national leader delivered a four hour and 29 minute speech at the United Nations, the longest continuous speech ever given in the General Assembly? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, MD
No game tonight at Quincy’s – Colin returns next week with an opening question about “The Far Side”.
Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD
Some nights it’s a good game, straight forward and focused with an understated enthusiasm for intelligence. And then there are nights like tonight. I haven’t heard Champions so loud in quite some time! If you weren’t here, you should have been.. you missed a helluva good night. I think you all missed me last week 😉
Our final was a good one, with half of the large field picking it up in a last push to claw their way up on to the podium. Third place went to Vitrifers after they nailed down the Castro answer. Second place went to A crudely drawn Penis, they were really hoping for first but a full crew of Just Good Enough just couldn’t be beat! Next week we are starting out with “Rocky Horror Picture Show”! It’s just a jump to the left and then a step to the right…

Another fine game on the books here at Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg, and we even signed a few people up to vote to boot! The final turned the scores on their heads tonight, while our “particle physics” category understandably threw some wrenches in the works as well. Ultimately, it took a tie breaker to settle 3rd place. Here are the results:
First Place: Your Mom
Second Place: Indians
Third Place: Washington Foreskins
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50 (Bill Cosby or Bill Clinton?)

Tonight at The Links of Challedon, we had an interesting question that led to a funny ending. When the teams where asked to name the two countries whose names begin with the letter ‘Z”, most of the teams answered Zimbabwe and Zaire, but they apparntly forgot that Zaire is a former country, and is now called the Republic of Congo. Only one team came up with the actual other answer of Zamblia. When that was explained, I had a lot of playful BOO’s which made for some great laughs. Tonight finishing in third place, we had the Greens In Regulation, in second we had Balls Out, and taking home the win was Breadsticks.
Next week’s first category (Who Said It? Donald Trump or Frank Reynolds?)

Fish Market in Alexandria, VA
Tonight was a BIG night for the DC Metro area! We had the Washington Nationals playing an elimination playoff game and the Washington Capitals had their NHL Season Opener tonight! There was a football game too but the only way anyone might’ve been paying attention to that was if the Redskins were playing. A heated night for sure with sports so we had a FULL HOUSE here at Fish Market. Some to watch baseball, some hockey, some to play trivia, and some for both!
Both of our top two teams from last week took this game off so the Winner’s slot was open to anyone who wanted to come take it tonight! We saw a few regulars but mostly a group of new players looking to try something new. Our leaders at the half were Trump OBGYN but that lead was quickly cut short by a strong 3rd round from Rubber Sheets Club.
We went into the 6-4-2 and saw a LOT of teams struggle to come up with an answer. The 6 point clue went dead, the 4 point clue went dead, teams only picking up points when I read the 2 point clue. Probably one of the harder 6-4-2’s we’ve had in a while but the fact I thought was pretty cool. Best Buy was originally known as the Sound of Music! Fun fact!
Going into the final, we had a DEAD LOCK tie between Trump OBGYN and Rubber Sheets Club. Trump went for the 0 wager and prayed RSC would miss. A good bet on Trump’s end as their response was the incorrect one BUT Rubber Sheets did manage to get the final correct and they’d take down the win! Good game! 2nd to Trump OBGYN and 3rd place to L-Rock who jump up with a correct response on the final! We’re back next week! Until then 😉
Next week’s first category: 1980s New Wave Music

Guido’s in Frederick, MD
We had a GREAT turnout for our Thursday night game at Guido’s Speakeasy! It was great seeing so many teams back that haven’t been in for a few weeks, which also made the game SO much more competitive! Of course, there can only be 3 top teams no matter how many teams there are and after the final question, this is who they were… Making a jump up to 3rd was Sgt. Buffalo’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, moving up to 2nd was Friends of Dick Johnson, and making a late move and shocking everyone with a 1st place upset was Boner Damage!! They picked “The Grateful Dead” for next weeks winners choice category so study up and I hope to see everyone back next Thursday night at Guido’s!!
