Lemmings! Dante! Madden! Pour House Pub Trivia Monday!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Monday found its way to some cliff faces to hang with lemmings, wound our way into hell with Dante and hit the gridiron (digitally!) with Madden!
Check it all out below, gang.
Del Ray Pizza – Alexandria, VA
Thanks again to everyone for another fine game of PHT here at DRP in Alexandria, as always it was a lot of fun. We handed out a few invites for the Summer Fling here in Alexandria, don’t worry if you missed them though, as we’ll be back next week for Labor Day to play!
Here are the results of tonight’s game:
HR PuffnStuff in 1st
Atilla the Pun in 2nd
Still TBD in 3rd
Our first category for next week is 1980s Music.

Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD
As we wrap up the month of August and start heading right towards fall, we had another close game tonight with some familiar faces and some we hadn’t seen in awhile making some surprise appearances. All in all it was a very fun night I thought, with some great questions and answers throughout. We started out with a question about the TV show MASH, a show I know next to nothing about, thanks to last week’s winners, Danny Glover. We also found out that just about nobody knows how the word genealogy is actually spelled, with most teams either missing the ‘A’ in the word or adding an extra ‘O’ in there somewhere. I liked the bust question we had too, with some teams forgetting about Blockbuster’s existence. The A+B question might have surprised some people, but most were able to nail that one down, as the numbers were both pretty low in the question.
In round two we started with a question about TV talk show hosts, and most teams recognized Stephen Colbert’s voice, but some had trouble with Arsenio Hall and Seth Meyers. We also talked about the Little League World Series that wrapped up yesterday, with Japan taking home the victory in that one. I also liked the question about the Meet the Parents trilogy, which I honestly forgot was a trilogy until this question came up. I haven’t seen any of the movies so I didn’t think about it. At halftime we had some quick finishers knock it out almost immediately, but a few teams had some trouble identifying J.K. Rowling especially, and took their time trying to figure that one out. The sports arena nicknames didn’t give teams too many problems figuring them out, which was impressive.
In the second half we had a question about Dante’s work The Divine Comedy, which was a fiasco the last time it came up, but this time things were a little better, asking about what philosophers Dante met in Dante’s Inferno when he was in the first circle of Hell, called Limbo. In the question about words with ABS in them, we asked about a term I’d never heard of called Abscissa, which nobody got but one team, something that definitely surprised me. I loved the question about the Bernie Mac Show (RIP), mostly because he always somehow gets overlooked, even though the show was actually pretty good. Finishing out the round we talked about the new Madden that came out last week, and about how Odell Beckham Jr. is on the cover, probably 99% because of that crazy catch he made.
In the final round the question about lemmings was fun, because somehow people always think that lemmings are suicidal little animals, thanks in part to the game that Blizzard made about them. The rock song inspirations question was tough for some teams even with the multiple choice in the question, with teams not knowing that Jon Bon Jovi had a relationship with Diane Lane, something I had no clue about either. The question about Pootie Tang was a fun one, even though most teams struggled with it, and it’s a neat fact that the movie was written and directed by Louis C.K.
At the end of round four we had a tie for the lead heading into the final question between Sad Fat Dragons and Danny Glover, with the final category being U.S. Geography. The question asked which two states have the longest border, which a few teams were able to figure out was the border between Texas and Oklahoma. Third place tonight went to Sad Fat Dragons due to some defensive wagering by them. Second place went to That’s A Niner who were able to nail the final. Winning tonight, however, for the third week in a row was Danny Glover, also getting the final correct and taking it down. Congrats guys! Next week we start with a question about Back to the Future (just the first movie, not the trilogy), so gun it up to 88 and I’ll see you all again next week!
Until next time,

il Forno – Frederick, MD
Tonight’s game was a close one between all the teams that participated! We’re wrapping up our summer season in about 2 weeks, glad to see a lot of veterans competing. Leading for most of the game was one of our veteran teams MC! They were the lone team to get a few of the two point bonuses which helped add to their lead, truly a good performance. Going into the 4th round they led, but not by much as The Moops were trailing by only a point or two!
The 4th round was not kind to our leaders, as they missed their bonus chip and dropped into 2nd place behind The Moops! The Moops held onto the lead going into the final, needed to just get the final correct to seal the W! Well, the final played extremely difficult tonight, only 1 team coming up with a correct response. That team would end up winning the game. Congratulations to The Moops! Getting the final, winning the game! Great game guys! We’re back in a week with more summer fun! Cya then guys ! 😉
1st Place: The Moops
2nd Place: MC
3rd Place: Much More Deeper
Next week: The Wives of Henry VIII
Schroyer’s Tavern, Maryland National Golf Club – Middletown, MD
We almost had a fantastic come from behind victory at the end of tonights trivia game at Schroyer’s Tavern! Unfortunately, the only question which the comeback team missed in round 4 was also their bonus category.
Finishing in 3rd tonight was the Mountain Dolphins! So close to that “W” but finishing 2nd was Team Tavern! Hanging on for their second 1st place finish in a row was One Crow Short of a Murder!! If you need a good laugh, come by next week to see me embarrass myself with their winner’s choice pick, Jon sings Kenny Rogers – in costume! Yikes. So be sure not to miss this train wreck in the making next Monday at Schroyer’s Tavern!!

Roast House Pub – Frederick, MD
Tonight’s game of Pour House Trivia was a doozy at the Roast House Pub! After a strenuous run of tough questions and bad jokes, the final decided it all.
Highlights of the Night:
In “Not-The-Trilogies-You’re-Looking-For”: So many bonuses on the Trilogies question. So many gasps when people realized it wasn’t one of the holy Trilogies. So many sighs of relief when they recognized what the movie was anyway.
In “Ian-Should-Not-Make-Movie-References”: So apparently I’m the only person who remembers that Pootie Tang is the movie that everyone is trying to watch when they mistakenly get the Ring analog. I suppose I should stop with the movie references.
In “Wild-Finals”: When a Final questions sees the majority of the wrong answers, you always end up holding your breath as the last ones come in, to see who if anyone gets it right.
In third place tonight, My Subtle Neck Tattoo!
In second place tonight, Plan B!
In first place tonight, as a SOLO, The John Lithgow Fan Club!
Congrats to all my teams on a game well played, especially to our winner tonight! A solo win is a great accomplishment!
Next week is a bit up in the air, but one way or another, the next time we meet the round one question one category will be the 2015 PGA Tour! Study up on your golfing!
Until then,
Ian
Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA
It was another great night of trivia at Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon. It was close game for three rounds, but in the fourth round, it was I Don’t Think It’s Contagious who snuck into the lead, and was gunning for their first win of the summer! It was valiant effort, but they were unable to come up with the correct response on the final, leading to the second win in a row for Jimmy’s in Vegas! Their consistency paid off in the end. Swedish Police on Vacation surprised themselves with the correct answer on the final to take second, with I Don’t Think It’s Contagious rounding out the top three. Our first category next week is World Flags! ~ Matt
