Ladies First and First Ladies at Pour House Trivia!
Tuesday is the business night of the week at Pour House Trivia, so to be the ‘best of the best’ on this night is truly an accomplishment. With nearly 80 teams playing trivia tonight, one team definitely proved its might with a nearly flawless game. Don’t forget that every team that appears below is entered to win two Caps tickets courtesy of Pour House Trivia. The details can be found by clicking here!
TUESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (79 teams across 12 venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Notch 8 (Champion Billiards) with 175
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Notch 8 (Champion Billiards) with 163
–> Highest First Half Score: Notch 8 (Champion Billiards) with 91
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Valley Girls (Cap City Brewing), Notch 8 (Champion Billiards), Comfortably Dum, (Champion Billiards), Drunk and Disorderly (Cugini’s), We Drink and We Know Things (Quincy’s South)
–> Identifying the ‘Trump Impersonators’ on our halftime page proved to be quite difficult, as it led to a relatively low average of 14.1 on halftime, with NO teams scoring a perfect 20 (although seven teams did score 19).
–> Unfortunately, it was too late for most teams to find out that there is indeed more than once famous thoroughbred race horse from the 1970s, as the most recent winner of the Triple Crown (prior to American Pharoah) was Affirmed, a full five years after Secretariat. That was our toughest question of the night at about 15% correct, and most teams lost a high wager to boot!
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (41.4% success rate):
–> Who is the most recent person from OUTSIDE the film industry to announce the winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Capitol City Brewing in Arlington, VA
Last night’s game was a real roller coaster, all the way to the finish line! (I love mixed metaphors.) “God Complex Particles” came out to a strong start, holding onto first place through Rounds 2 and 3. They also did amazingly well on that tough (but hopefully entertaining) “Trumps on Parade” picture round. Unfortunately, they faded in the stretch, falling out of contention in the final questions. Meanwhile, returning champs “Show Me on the Doll” sputtered out of the gate, but picked up steam thereafter, fighting their way up to a third place finish. Strong performances from a few other teams, but it was the Valley Girls (playing as “This Game is Rigged”) who broke out of the pack in Round 4 and nailed the Final to claim top honors. Your scoreboard:
First Place: This Game is Rigged (a.k.a. Valley Girls)
Second Place: Hillary Did Harambe
Third Place: Show Me on the Doll

Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD
Tuesday night! We had some visitors from WFRE at Champions tonight and quite a few of you walked out with tickets to the concert Wednesday night! Talk about a one stop shop! You just can never be sure what will happen at our get-togethers. I do love my Tuesday night teams, and many thanks to Jungle Fever for the tasty treats!
We had a busy night with 16 teams coming out to throw down and try out their brainy skills against some of the best in the city limits! Once the cream rose to the top on this particular question set, it was Charlie and the Vodka Factory in 3rd. Comfortably Dum was in 2nd and We’re all out of bubblegum took the top spot again!
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50 (Santa or Satan?)
Cugini’s Restaurant in Poolesville, MD
It was another great night of trivia once again here at Cugini’s in Poolesville, and we had five teams in the running for top place tonight! The only question that seemed to trip up the majority was in our Horse Racing category tonight, but the final category title was EPIC, making many teams strategically wager. Once the dust cleared, our fourth place team jumped up all the way to FIRST! Here are the final results:
First Place: Drunk N Disorderly
Second Place: Five Must Get Beers
Third Place: MoMo

Orioles Nest in Frederick, MD
Tonight we started out with a question about “Billy Madison”, one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies. We also had an amusing halftime page where teams had to identify the performers that were impersonating Donald Trump, with about a 50/50 split between male and female performers. I also really liked tonight’s final question, which asked about the most recent figure outside the film industry to announce the Academy Award winner for Best Picture. Turns out a few teams knew (or guessed) that it was Michelle Obama, who announced “Argo” as the winner in 2013.
This definitely changed a few things around, as Suck It Trebek managed to take the win, jumping up from third before the final. Here are the final results:
First Place: Suck it Trebek
Second Place: Black Steel
Third Place: His and Her Peas
Next week’s first category: “Stand By Me”

With some new teams trying their hand, we had a highly competitive game of trivia this week. A few stumpers along the way separated out the field enough so Poovey Farms didn’t have to wager anything on the final in order to secure another victory and continue their streak. Will anyone stop them this season?
First Place: Poovey Farms (six in a row!)
Second Place: Hookers and Blackjack
Third Place: Manischewitz and His Grapes of Wrath
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50: The CW’s “Flash” or “Arrow”?
See you then!

Senor Tequila’s in Germantown, MD
Tonight things were hopping at Senor Tequilas, for what I think was our busiest night of Pour House Trivia yet! Quite the night of competition!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Back-To-Math-Class-With-You”: Most of the teams tonight were able to put two and two together and realize that giving the years might have something to do with the “numerical” title of the war, coming up with 30. Some teams however, saw that fact sail clean over their heads, as we had more than one “100 Years War” answer. Come on now xD
In “Halftime-Struggles”: The puzzle page tonight was a tricky one, with no one scoring higher than a 16, and a few teams even in single digits! Clearly some of those Donald impressions were just a bit too darn good!
In “4th-Quarter-Slip-Ups”: When the horses coming down the home stretch, the was a sudden speed bump on the horse racing question, that derailed the majority of the teams, causing a last second shift of the podium. How would things end up?
First Place: Three Fingers Worth
Second Place: The Fan Club (jumping from behind)
Third Place: Beer Pressure
Next week’s first category: World Chess Champions question!
Great game everyone! Study up on your chess prodigies, and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,

I have it on good authority that our regular teams that make frequent appearances might — just might — face increasingly difficult trivia questions next week. Or I might be wrong. In any case, it might be time for folks to dethrone Milwaukee Beers, who’ve scored in the top three regularly since we began playing here. All being said and done, there was some pretty significant leaderboard movement with the final question; subterfuge in wagers and unexpectedly correct answers moved some into and out of the top-3. Milwaukee Beers, previously mentioned, managed to claim a 10-pt victory – and 10 points seemed to be the margin of the night. Rounding up 2nd and 3rd places at 10 and 20 behind were No Tears for Beers and Spanish Inquizition (making an unexpectedly strong move).
First up next week? A subject not yet broached at Fireflies: Mel Brooks movies. Good luck next week, and remember our Spooky special — details on pourhousetrivia.com and facebook.com/pourhousetrivia. As always, you can find me on Twitter @pourhouseChief.
Until then, fair winds!

Blue Parrott in St. Petersburg, FL
Its starting to cool down for fall, but the leaves aren’t changing at the Blue Parrot! Teams are more than ready to compete with no team left behind in the betting! The teams were in a close race all through the night! The Quizknows started to pull away as the only team to earn six points on the 6-4-2 question. Going into the final question, The Quizknows didn’t have the runaway lead, with Shark Tales and Parrotheads close behind! Quizknows maintained the lead, but it was the HOT CHICKS AGAIN with the clutch correct answer at the end to gain second place. Shark Tales took 3rd over Parrotheads! Thanks to all who played!

Zepheira Sports Bar in Hagerstown, MD
Our Tuesday night game at Zepheira Sports Bar had an exciting but also unfortunate ending for one team! This team is always competitive every week, but has been finishing 2nd every game for the last month. Tonight they were down by 12 points after the 6-4-2 bonus question, but the team in 1st had a ROUGH fourth round so when we reached the final question, this team was now up by 2 points! I was so excited to see if they were finally going to shake off the 2nd place shackles and become king of the mountain, BUT, how you decide to wager for the final can sometimes be a cruel mistress, and they rolled the dice with a zero wager. It was heart breaking to watch… Finishing 3rd tonight was I Like to Play With Myself, moving down to finish 2nd once again (It killed me to see it) was Sanford & Son, and moving back up to 1st after a rough fourth round was the Avengers!! I hope to see you next Tuesday at Zepheira Sports Bar!!

Monkey La La in Frederick, MD
What! A! Finish!!! WOW!
La La trivia night was jumpin’ Tuesday night! With almost a full roster of veteran pub trivia crews grappling for position, I got to watch a pretty sick game go down! Everything seemed innocent enough in the first half with Bernie Sanders, Bob Parr and Morgan Freeman making cameos. And we had some fun with that Trump half-time page – PHT baby: makin’ puzzle pages great again!
But then the second half reared its head. And the Secretariat question – aka the Affirmed question – popped out form nowhere. All in all though, it made for a game for the books! It was a close match going into the final. After a little final wager strategery, however, it was a comeback crew that took down the W! Great game Stink Floyd, good wagering! And congrats to the rest of our TOP 3 as well on a game well played.
Thanks for hangin’ tonight everyone. Next week at La La we kick it off with Horror Films – one of my favorite genres! Have a great week and I will see you soon.
