Ladies and Gentlemen Showed Wednesday some Class!
Elegance, class, poise. These are the things Wednesdays are made of. Well mannered teams, and perfectly delivered riposte. Timeless style. Actually, none of those things are true. We drank lots, taunted strangers and swore a good bit. It was a blast!
Valley Grill in Middletown, Md
15 teams converged on Valley Grill tonight for some Wednesday PHT and it was epic. We had a question tonight where the correct answer best described its effect on many of the team’s scores. Here are the results:
Stupid Sexy Flanders in 1st
Shakeweight in 2nd
Rum Ham in 3rd
Our first category for next week is John Cena ~ Ronnie
Our Wednesday night game at The Tavern was one of legend! Going into the halftime puzzle page there was a 3 way tie for 1st, and the scores throughout the rest of the game stayed pretty close, (especially between out top 4 teams) but after the final question was answered, I finally had the honor of announcing one of the longest tenured teams as our 1st place winner!! (Ironically enough, a round 3 question which they alone got correct with the answer “Disaster”, turned out to be the crucial moment in which they finally got the coveted 1st place win!) Playing solo this week but making an a-MAZ-ing move from 6th to 3rd place after the final was Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit! Moving from 3rd to 2nd place at the end was Blame It On the Butter, And for the first time that I can recall since I took over hosting duties here (which has been at LEAST 2 years), it warms my heart to finally announce that Moving Forward was our 1st place WINNER!! Their winners choice for next Wednesday night is “Name the Elements in Words completely spelled out with Periodic Table Symbols” (which sounds fun and really creative!) , so study up and come join the party with us next Wednesday night at The Tavern!! ~ Jon J
We were packed this week at Memories!! 16 teams jostled for position – and elbow room – as we handed out more Summer Fling points. (One day, we’ll stop dancing around it and just call our summer tournament “Summerslam”…)
Second Place: We Hate The Moops
First Place: Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me
It’s always nice to see a team that is so excited about winning a trivia game. Tonight’s game featured a brutal third round, a tough final question, and a team that were so excited about winning, they even asked me to sign their PHT Cash coupon!
We also had a tough audio question, which featured songs sped up a ton, asking teams to identify them. Unfortunately, at that speed ‘Twist and Shout’ sounds an awful lot like ‘La Bamba’, which really hurt some teams. That third round was rough though, starting out with a Shakespeare question, and moving into a tough religion question (which asked about Taoism). The word origins question hurt too, as catastrophe and disaster seem pretty similar, almost too similar to some teams.
The final question for tonight asked about inventors, asking about the Scottish inventor who submitted a patent for improving fuel and steam consumption in fire engines. Nobody managed to get the answer, which was James Watt. Third place tonight went to We’ve Embraced Our Mediocrity, and second went to The Out of Towners. However, the win tonight went to a team that was so excited, it just warmed my bones to see it. Congrats to Peanut Butter and Jealous on the victory!! Next week we start with a question about Van Halen (the band!), so study up and I’ll see you then!
Until next time,
Chad
I was gonna do the whole set in my falsetto voice but people threatened me – maybe in the near future…
hehe! Good game tonight everyone. We had 12 teams battle royaling at some pub trivia Hagerstown, MD style. It was the first time in PHT history I got to congratulate teams for getting NAKED.
Guess I am gonna have to start watching more TLC. We also did get to do a Nancy Karrigan question – and I had a HUGE crush on her back in the day so that brought back pleasant memories for sure. All in all – a stellar night of fun and games and cold beverages. Our Budweiser specials at trivia night are sure bringing the folks out and getting new people playing. Fun fun. And let’s face it…when you drink more, I am funnier!
The finish of tonight’s game game was great and our TOP certainly earned their spot. Well played everyone.
And that my friends was a great Wednesday night of trivia, Hagerstown style! Next week we start it off with one of my daughter’s favorites: “My Little Pony.” Until then, lotsa love and I will see you soon. DG
