Ken Jennings Would Not Be Happy About Monday Trivia!

Monday’s game of Pour House Trivia welcomed 47 teams across six venues.

FIRST ROUND:

Opening round topics from Monday night included words that begin ‘GIN’, Banana Republic clothing stores, the Sputnik satellite, and the horror film The Ring.  With very few speed bumps for our Monday field, ten teams began their night with a perfect first round score of 36 points.

SECOND ROUND:

Monday’s audio question included the unique spoken word version of the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by William Shatner, as well as cover versions of Hey Ya! by Outkast and Teenage Dream by Katy Perry.  From there, we invoked a little wordplay with Gorgonzola cheese, discussed the career of comedienne Mindy Kaling, the Texas city of Odessa, and the Little Brown Jug trophy contested by the Michigan Wolverines and the Minnesota Golden Gophers.  Three teams (all from DRP) earned the only perfect scores of Monday’s second round: Cobra Kai, Mean Girls, and Probably in Last Place.

HALFTIME:

Album covers and “ghost”ly terms were the featured topics on Monday’s halftime page.  Three teams recorded a perfect score of 20 points, while the overall average reached 14.8 points.  These were your highest scoring Monday teams at the halftime break:

  • Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP): 90
  • Cobra Kai (DRP): 90
  • Mean Girls (DRP): 87
  • Legalized Gambling (DRP): 87
  • The Gang Plays Bar Trivia (Bushwaller’s): 87

THIRD ROUND:

Topics from Monday’s third round included the George Clooney film The Descendants, the DEFCON defense system, the song Dueling Banjos, and International Worker’s Day (which is actually a different holiday from Labor Day).  Four teams ran the table in Monday’s third round: Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP), Satchel of Richards (Rockwell), Pursue This (Rockwell), and Gong Gong and the Butt Demons (Cushwa).

FOURTH ROUND:

Monday’s final round opened with the most difficult bonus question of the night.  After most of the field earned wagering points on a question regarding the video game Harvest Moon, none of our Monday teams could tack on two bonus points by also knowing that One World is the subtitle of the most recent game in this series.  Things progressed much more easily in the remainder of the fourth round, as our teams largely remembered the inadvertent advertising punchline of “I’ve fallen and I cant get up”, the former FX sitcom The League, the chemical element tungsten, and facts pertaining to the island of Puerto Rico.  Obviously, none of our teams recorded a perfect final round score.  After four rounds of play, this was Monday’s overall leaderboard:

  • Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP): 164
  • Gong Gong and the Butt Demons (Cushwa): 160
  • The Gang Plays Bar Trivia (Bushwaller’s): 159
  • H. R. Puff ‘N’ Stuff (DRP): 159
  • Mean Girls (DRP): 157

FINAL QUESTION (38.3% success rate):

  • Though their surname actually ends with an H, brothers Richard and Henry are the namesakes for which financial company?

With an answer that will be forever linked with Ken Jennings, about two-fifths of our teams earned points on this final question with the correct response of H&R Block.  Congratulations to Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP), who earned the only Perfect 21 on Monday night by answering all 21 wagering questions correctly.  Here is Monday’s final leaderboard:

  • Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP): 172
  • Cobra Kai (DRP): 171
  • H. R. Puff ‘N’ Stuff (DRP): 169
  • Pursue This (Rockwell): 168
  • George Washington’s Camel (DRP): 166
  • Comfortably Dumb (Rockwell): 166
  • Probably in Last Place (DRP): 165
  • Cunnylumpkins (Rockwell): 159
  • Legalized Gambling (DRP): 158
  • Burning Dog Poo and the Human Response (Rockwell): 157
