It’s Thursday night live! Pour House Pub Trivia recap!

Pour House pub trivia’s Thursday rounded out the work week with a six-pack of live trivia in Maryland and Virginia!

As a long-time SNL fan, Don Pardo is a great hidden gem of the show, though Hammond’s done a nice job filling in.

Read on for more great stuff, gang.

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

What a gigantically fun game of pub trivia-licious we threw down tonight at Champion Billiards. It was a nail biter for sure. DCH came out of the gate and held steady the whole night! A few teams stayed within striking distance, however. And we know how that can go on a tough final, which we had!

Thanks for coming out tonight everyone. I had a blast – I admit though, I was nervous about pronouncing all of the Spanish book titles. But we eased our way through it. And “hooker of Hollandaise,” has to be my favorite phrase of the year! It just flows right off the tongue! :0 Good stuff!

So, the Top 3: props to our leader board members. Tonight’s game was a tough one so GG my friends!

That is a two-fer for #Crampton! And for next week, they have chosen “Famous Chickens” as the first category. That should be a fun one! Although, triple 50-50 Beer or Urine is gonna be a hard one to beat – I still think we should have made that one AUDIO 😉

Love ya! See you next Thursday! DG 🙂

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

Continuing the trend of packed houses here on our Thursday night live trivia game, tonight was no different as we eclipsed the double digit mark, once again, with a lot of familiar faces AND some new ones! Tonight’s game was control by one of our veteran teams though, which I’ll go into in a bit here.

Question of the night was the “Saturday Night Live” question. One of the most recognizable voices on TV, around for 40 years, Don Pardo is apparently a name that not too many people have tattooed to their memory. Even less so is Darrell Hammond’s name, even though he was an SNL cast member for almost a decade and has just recently re-joined the show as the new announcer. I feel like it was pretty big news when Pardo died and Hammond took over; they are the only 2 people to announce what is arguably the most famous sketch comedy/late night show of all time. Although, this is coming from a person who has never heard of Governor Jindal or Republican Carly Fiorina, or what DVT is (deep vein thrombosis). Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks I guess.

One team not phased by the seemingly obscure announcers was Oscar Meyer, who put on a clinic tonight, leading by double digits most of the way and keeping a 10 point lead going into the final question. Tonight’s final was a killer; over all the bars that played tonight in the entire PHT circuit, I believe 5 teams were able to come up with a correct response, which is less than a 10% conversion rate. Two of these correct responses came up at Fish Market tonight. One team was a duo by the name of Cheeky Monkeys. The other was your winners Oscar Meyer, winning by a solid 13 points (2nd and 3rd had bet zero to hold their spots). Great game all. 2nd went to Rubber Sheets Club and 3rd to Trivia Newton John, both of whom are fitting in well here at their newly discovered venue. Back in a week for more trivia! Cya then!

1st Place: Oscar Meyer
2nd Place: Rubber Sheets Club
3rd Place: Trivia Newton John

Guido’s – Frederick, MD

Last night was fun at Guido’s Speakeasy for trivia! There was a nice influx of both new and visiting teams, so things got real interesting by the final question.

Making the move from 5th to 3rd place after the final was Scotch Face! 2nd place belonged to Trivia Team 2:Electric Boogaloo!! Our 1st place finisher came out with an interesting name, and it was The Agoraphobic’s Night Out!!

They also picked an interesting winner’s choice category, “I’ve made a huge mistake!”, so study up and get back and see us next Thursday night at Guido’s for some fun!! ~

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD

Main St! You were a lot of fun tonight, thank you for your open arms- even if I wasn’t making out by the end of the night like some of you 😉 First time I have seen someone tip a waitress with some sugar of the PG-13 variety. hehe.

Never boring up here in Bel Air, the doors were all open; the weather was perfect. It really couldn’t have been much better.

It was awfully good for our 3rd place team who were the new kids of Wookie of the year! It pays to stay and hang out! 2nd went to Grundel Hammer. What can I say? You got some lovin’ and some winnings. I’m pretty sure you were the real winner tonight, but on top of the podium at Main St Oyster House tonight was Anal Bum Covers! No strangers to the top slot, they want to talk about Yoga for our first category next week. Come see me! Natalie will still be out of town so you can come see me and we will all count ourselves lucky if there is less Spanish in next weeks set. 😉

Have a good one!

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

It was our typical rowdy Thursday night crowd playing the game at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, and with a couple of teams back in the house after a long break, it provided us a sizable field.  After four rounds of play, it was Blue Collar who put themselves into position for the win, but they were unable to come up with the correct response on the final question (as were many teams).  The musical “Rock of Ages” eluded the field, as I am assuming that most teams did not realize that it was actually a stage show before hitting the big screen.  So, the final standings were determined by some strategic wagering.  One of those teams who decided that Broadway wasn’t their strength was Suck It Frosty, who jumped a few spots on the final to take third place.  John Lithgow Fan Club (much to their own surprise) managed to land into a tie for first with Blue Collar, but was unable to come up with the better answer on the tiebreaker, and had to settle for second.  Blue Collar were our champions tonight, their first win of the month, and so they choice the work of Isaac Asimov as the first category for next week!  ~ Matt
