It was a dark and stormy Thursday night – of Pour House Pub Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia’s Thursday rocked seven games of live trivia in Maryland, Virginia and sunny Florida!
Read on to see the recaps!
Well, it was another great night of live trivia at the Blue Parrott. The Team returned to defend their role as winners the previous week and there was some new fresh blood with a new contender The Wonks. As the questions kept coming, The Wonks, The Bandits and The Team were all pretty much neck and neck. One answer here or there could sway how the points would work out.
In the end, it all boiled down to the final question. Many teams felt they had a good shot to jump another team but The Wonks ended up being crowned king.
Great game yet again tonight down here in Leesburg at Bunker Sports Cafe! Always fun! Here are the results after a TV show tiebreaker:
Cranius Maximus in 1st
The Indians in 2nd
Thoroughly Screwed in 3rd
Our first category takes us back to the 1850’s for the Crimean War!
Jesus on the Mountaintop! Yes Champions- Jesus might be great and all but it was Christ for the answer!
We had a good night at Champs, complete with Power Vacuum winning a tiebreaker for first. There’s a history there of some serious Northern Exposure watching 😉 Make sure you tell Denny next week that he owes you a good coccyx joke – I’m sure he’s got a million of them.
So we know Power Vac topped the charts with 1st, but it was Sad, Fat Dragons who went neck and neck but just couldn’t top the tie breaker and had to settle for 2nd. 3rd went to FNQ after a correct answer on a tough final! Thanks for being so hospitable ladies and gents- next week you will start off with Albert Einstein.
After a few weeks of having only one of two of our regulars battling out for the top spot at the Fish Market, it seemed like THIS WEEK was the one that everyone decided to come out and play! We had Oscar Meyer, 2 Birds One Stone, Welcome to You’re Doom, That’s Not My Leg (playing under a new name), Trivia Newton John, just to name a few of the patrons who frequent our lovely little trivia nook. With those big names playing tonight, you can imagine it was fun to watch the game unfold.
Tonight’s question of the night is CHUBBY HUBBY! Teams seemed to cling hard to the “rhyming name” clue and not even listen to the ingredients. We asked for a Ben and Jerry’s flavor with a rhyming name and after that it didn’t seem to matter what I said was in it. Chubby Hubby has peanut butter, fudge, chocolate, and pretzels and stuff, quite the delicacy among ice cream lovers. The most common answer however was CHUNKY MONKEY, which of course gets its name from the fact that it contains BANANA (monkeys, bananas, makes sense, right?)
Despite that, lots of teams went big on the Monkey and got bit. Going into the 4th round, we had Oscar Meyer holding a COMMANDING lead over the field, a double digit lead at that. Round 4 didn’t prove very difficult for them either, despite wagering their 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 in that order…. They lacked confidence, but didn’t lack answers as they swept the 4th to hold a 12 point lead going into the final. All they needed was a correct response on the final to lock the game, either that or needed Welcome to You’re Doom to miss. Well, both of those things happened so the game finale was set in stone. 1st place tonight, Oscar Meyer! 2nd place went to 2 Birds who jumped up a bit with a correct response. 3rd place, with a wager of zero on the final, was Biggus Dickus (formerly That’s Not My Leg). Great game all! Back in a week for more trivia action! Until then 😉
1st Place: Oscar Meyer
2nd Place: 2 Birds One Stone
3rd Place: Biggus Dickus
Next week: South Park
Tonight’s game of live trivia at Guido’s Speakeasy was fun to watch unfold, although, a couple of teams may not share that sentiment with me! It seemed to be one of those nights where the teams that killed it in the first half, had a rough go of it in the second half, and then visa-versa for the teams struggling in the first half that went on to kill it in the second.
But after the final question was answered, this is how it stood: Finishing in 3rd tonight was a friend of mine who just stopped in for a few drinks that I talked into playing, but nice job Casey Takes It Deep, Real Deep! (You should have heard what his “Adult Trivia” team name was later!) Taking 2nd place honors was Trivia Team 2: Electric Boogaloo!! Settling back into the 1st place throne tonight was T.N.C.!!!
Their pick for next Thursdays winners choice category was “Oops, Babies!” (have fun with THAT one Matt), so study up and come join the trivia party next week at Guido’s!!

It may have been raining, flooding, thunder and lighting. But Main Street showed up and played a real game of trivia. Team Black dog came in 3rd with 94 points, Bocca Al Lupo took second place, and while they’ve been away, they came back strong Anul Bum Covers took 123 points. Next week we have Animated Movies to start it off!
Another packed house at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg. I guess nobody took any summer vacations this year, but it’s always great to see our regular teams week in and week out. Tonight’s Smella Nella played a fantastic game and came from behind on the final question to finish with tonight’s top score. They are our ‘unofficial’ winners, as they were played with some extra help, so our second place team of Lowered Expecatations took home our top prize. Nasty Neutrons took home third place. Next week, our first question is on the Coen Brothers film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” ~ Matt
