Isn’t Weekend Trivia Lovely?

alt textLast weekend’s games of Pour House Trivia welcomed 39 teams across four venues.

FIRST HALF:

First half topics from last weekend’s games included hay fever, the state of Kansas, brain freeze, and the food known as a tamale.  Our audio questions featured the classic McDonald’s commercials with Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, and Broadway Musicals.  Across the board, eight of our teams earned a perfect first-round score, while Shady Deductions (Springfield Manor Winery) and Sexual Chocolate (Belles’) picked up the perfect 36 points in the second round.  Here is last weekend’s halftime leaderboard:

SECOND HALF:

Nine of our teams managed to post a perfect score on our halftime sheets which came in at a combined average of 17.2 points.

Our second half touched on topics such as the Jon Bon Jovi song Blaze of Glory, the Ivy League university  Columbia, the baseball teams with colorful team names, Blue Jays, Reds, White Sox, and Red Sox, and the retail brand the Appalachian Mountains.

The most difficult questions of the weekend were on the topics of retail chains and ice cream flavors.

  • Which retail chain was founded by George Dayton in 1902 as Goodfellow Dry Goods. Sixty years later, the company opened the first store under its current name as a discount shop in Roseville, Minnesota?
  • We all know that Ben and Jerry love their puns. That fact was evident when they referenced the title character in a 2004 comedy film to name which flavor of ice cream that features chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors?

The answers here were Target and Neapolitan Dynamite

Four  teams were able to earn a perfect round during the second half this weekend.

After four rounds of play, the overall weekend leaderboard included these teams:

FRIDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (4.3% success rate):

  • Which 2010s American presidential primary candidate made a cameo appearance in the 2003 Farrelly brothers comedy film “Stuck on You”?

SATURDAY FINAL QUESTION (31.3% success rate):

  • Since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame requires a 25-year waiting period from the time of an artist’s first release, it will be tough to match the feat set by these two people, who were each induced into the Hall at age 38 in 1989 and 1997 respectively. Please identify BOTH of these people

The respective correct answers to these final questions were Dr. Ben Carson and Michael Jackson & Stevie WonderShady Deductions (Springfield Manor Winerywas able to post a Perfect 21 by answering all 21 wagering questions correctlyHere is your final weekend leaderboard:
