Inspector Jacques Clouseau Approved of Monday Trivia

alt textMonday’s game of Pour House Trivia welcomed 61 teams across seven venues.

Monday’s opening round began with a three clues question on the topic of Abercrombie & Fitch. We then dove into other topics such as Fort Sumter, the process of electrolysis , and we finished up the round with the original and re-make version of the sci-fi film Total Recall. Three teams, Hipster Fashion Consultants and Worst Case Ontario (DRP) and Buy Me a Beer (Ragtimeopened their game with a perfect score of 36 points.

In Monday’s second round, we listened to boy bands, but the answers were bands who had the word boy in them. Those artists were The Beach Boys, Pet Shop Boy, and Fall Out Boy. We then moved on to discussions about Batman: The Animated Series, and the Mexican state of Chihuahua, and finished the Round with Charlotte’s Web..

In a rare occurrence, Round Two featured the most difficult question of the night on the topic of PGA Golfers.

  • This PGA legend won five majors in the late 1930s and early 1940s and set a PGA Tour record by winning 11 straight tournaments in 1945? He is also the namesake of the PGA Tour event held each May in the Dallas area.

Only about 15% of our teams knew the correct answer of Byron Nelson.

Two teams, Hipster Fashion Consultants and Cobra Kai (DRPposted the perfect scores in Monday’s second round

Monday’s halftime page was our most difficult one in recent memory as we asked our teams to identify films of tv shows featuring Betty White and identifying particular years that were important to the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. The average score only reached 10.3 points, with zero teams earning a perfect score of 20 points.  These were your highest scoring Monday teams at the halftime break:

  • Worst Case Ontario (DRP): 89
  • Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP): 86
  • Buy Me a Beer (Ragtime): 84
  • Gong Gong and the Butt Demons (Cushwa): 83
  • Little Doodles (DRP): 81
  • Cobra Kai (DRP): 81

Monday’s second half began with a question about the NHL teams Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs, we then moved on to other categories that included feudalism, a three-part question about the filmography of Jim Carrey who was celebrating his 60th birthday on Monday, those films were Peggy Sue Got Married, The Mask, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. We finished the round with a physics question on the derivatives snap, crackle, and the Shakespearean tragedy Julius Caesar

One team Redskins (Ragtime) managed to complete a perfect third round.

After ur 6-4-2 question dealt with the competition known as the World’s Strongest Man, we began Round Four.

We began our Final Round with a question about the Bible where the answers were Latin, Hebrew, and Greek, we then took a quick trip to China and the Yangtze River, we dealt with a question about the reality show Family Jewels that featured Gene Simmons, and we finished the round with a three-part question dealing with “g” answers, including, Gesundheit, Gold, and gaggle.

The most difficult question in the second half was on this brand name question.

  • Invented by Sir James Dewar in 1892, the vacuum flask is best known today by which ubiquitous brand name?

About 40% of our teams were able to give us the correct answer of Thermos. None of our Monday teams earned a perfect score in the fourth round.  These were your highest scoring Monday teams heading into the final question:

  • Worst Case Ontario (DRP): 159
  • Hipster Fashion Consultants (DRP): 157
  • Redskins (Ragtime): 154
  • Little Doodles (DRP): 150
  • Cobra Kai (DRP): 150

FINAL QUESTION (49.2% success rate):

  • Which animated character was introduced in a 1960s comedy film by appearing in just the opening and closing credits, even though his name was identical to the film’s title?

Almost exactly 1/2 of our teams earned their wagers by knowing this answer was The Pink Panther.  Thanks in large part to Round Four none of our Monday teams posted a Perfect 21 on Monday night by answering every wagering question correctly.  Here are your highest scoring teams at he close of Monday’s game:
