I’d Jump Out of a Plane for Trivia Night!
So it’s been one week since LAST TUESDAY. has everybody calmed the hell down yet? We’ve managed to survive seven days without too much drama, so I’m sure our teams were ready to go for a regular night of Tuesday trivia. At one of our venues, we had one team which threw down tonight’s set as though we had 21 of their wheelhouse categories. At another, we had a team hanging onto a massive winning streak. Who was it? Did they pull off yet another win? Read on…
TUESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (74 teams across 12 venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Sofa King Smart (Quincy’s South) with 175
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Sofa King Smart (Quincy’s South) with 166
–> Highest First Half Score: Sofa King Smart (Quincy’s South) with 94
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Five Must Get Beers (Cugini’s), Valley Girls (Capitol City Brewing), Reno 911! (FireFlies), Demented and Sad But Social (Monkey La La), Uncle Jack (Quincy’s South), Sofa King Smart (Quincy’s South), Screaming Death Monkey (Quincy’s South)
–> The halftime page played slightly easier than normal with an average of 18.0, with about 35% of our teams landing a perfect 20.
–> Down at FireFlies in Alexandria, Milwaukee Beers rolled through tonight’s set, running its winning streak to NINE GAMES!
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (59.6% success rate):
–> This man was the subject of a Western film which was viewed by paratroopers at Fort Benning the night prior to the inaugural mass jump. Who was the man? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Capitol City Brewing in Arlington, VA
After what might have been a rough week for many of us (at least judging by team names such as “You Had One Job, America! One Job!”) wasn’t it nice to just kick back with friends, have a brew, and… get verbally abused by Steve Martin and R. Lee Ermey? That bleeping audio clue had me in stitches, to be honest. The rest of the night’s clues were decidedly more family-friendly, with nursery rhymes and classic Nickelodeon questions in among the tougher biology and history material.
A recap of the night’s horse race: powerhouse team “Show Me on the Doll” was in rare form, holding onto a narrow lead right up until the final question. Our returning champs, the “Valley Girls”, were in hot pursuit, along with “God Complex Particles” and “Capital Hillbillies”. The Hillbillies grabbed the lead in the fourth round, aided by their surprising knowledge of fast food, both real life (BK vs. McD’s) and fictional (Good Burger). But, as often happens, the Final turned out to be the deciding factor: S.M.o.t.D. jumped back into first, with the Hillbillies unfortunately coming up short. Better luck next week! Your top three:
First Place: Show Me on the Doll
Second Place: Valley Girls
Third Place: Menace 2 Sobriety

Tuesday night! You’re feisty, you’re solid, and you’re a helluva good night. Teams come and well… they stay! It’s nice to see the ranks growing a bit, everyone is coming in out of the cold! If you haven’t checked us out yet on a Tuesday night you should- good food, cold beer and smart teams!
In our top three tonight, after a good final question, it was the solo of Newton’s Minion in 3rd! Night job Keith! 2nd place went to Comfortably Dum – they brought a ringer tonight! As usual, our top team was hard to beat… And We’re All Out of Bubblegum takes the top spot once again! Good Game!

Cugini’s Restaurant in Poolesville, MD
Here we were once again on another fine Tuesday on Poolesville for another game of Pour House Trivia at Cugini’s Restaurant. We blazed right through the first round with little incident, though we did get a lot of “ahhs” when it came to the NFL coach inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Round 2 was a bit different as we had an “edit fest” for our audio clue and only one of our teams scored all three correct. We learned in the 3rd round that apparently the Minotaur had a first name, and in the 4th that McD’s offered a vegetarian sandwich. YUCK! It took a tiebreaker to settle 1st & 2nd in tonight’s game. Here are the results:
First Place: MoMo
Second Place: Five Must Get Beers
Third Place: Lightfoot

So tonight we started out asking about the original “Beverly Hills 90210”, which was a bit of redemption for Suck it Trebek from the last time they picked it as a category and missed it. This time we asked about an Ivy League school one of the characters got admitted to, later deciding to stay in California instead of going to Yale.
I liked tonight’s final question, and only a few teams managed to get it right. This, combined with some crafty wagering, led to We’ve Embraced Our Mediocrity taking third, while His and Her Peas took second and the win went to Suck it Trebek!
Until next time,

Another game is in the books, and we’re one step closer to a House Champion! With Poovey Farms almost back to full strength, there was no stopping them this week. A perfect puzzle page and strong 2-point bonus grabs made this an easy win for the reigning House Champs. (And made the final irrelevant, as no team could win or lose enough points to change their position in the standings).
First Place: Poovey Farms
Second Place: Manischewitz and His Grapes of Wrath
Third Place: Hashtag Town
Poovey Farms has selected, “Triple 50/50: Who Said It, Lucille Bluth or Emily Gilmore?” This should be a challenging one! See you next week!

Another Tuesday night, another game of Pour House Trivia hotly contested here at Bennigan’s in Frederick!
We certainly had an interesting go of it tonight, between the category that shall not be named, overthinking questions, varying degrees of difficulty and failed wagering strategies, and desperately avoiding politics at all costs, the game was something of a wild one, where even with a sizable lead at the end, the top team was not entirely safe going into the final.
But when all was said and done, the standings looked like this.
In third place tonight, Axl’s Doghouse!
In second place tonight, Beer Pressure!
In first place tonight, the Fan Club!
Good game tonight guys, even if it got a bit crazy there for a while! NExt week we’re gonna kick things off with a question about Geometry!

FireFlies in Alexandria, VA
Well, we had a new team (with kids!) that was SUPER excited to play, and join the Pour House family. Alas, they were more than an hour early… and, well… the youngins weren’t keen to help during the actual game. Fortunately, I recognized that they (and another couple) really wanted to play… but couldn’t. Henceforth, I decided to give them a sample: Kabul trivia!! They were so stoked, they firmly promised to come hereafter on Tuesdays to Fireflies.
Of the regulars? Well, despite magic math and all sorts of machinations (despite a man down), Milwaukee Beers continued their dominance. As a host and objective observer, it must be really… tiring… to see these kids reign. TIME FOR SOME COMPETITION.
Otherwise, erstwhile Spanish Inquizition (with a “Z” damnit) and No Tears for Beers (p.s. No Tears for Fears, Songs from the Big Chair, Tears for Fears was the opening song to today’s Bennington Show) rounded up the top three for tonight. Well Done.
Fair Winds, you’ll have a sub next week as I’m in the greatest state of all: CALIFORNIA. Miss me like I’ll miss you. Kinda. 🙂

Quincy’s in Bethesda, MD
Trivia’s going strong at Quincy’s in Bethesda! We had some fun answers for the Minotaur question tonight – unfortunately I couldn’t give credit for “Beef Tits”, but I applauded the creativity. Someone also suggested that the answer was “Medusa’s boyfriend”. I’m willing to bet he doesn’t complain about how long she takes in the mirror! Yeah, you need to be a nerd to get that joke 😛
God Save the Queen had the lead, then lost it, then regained it by the finale, finishing in first place with Grab Her Like a Bowling Ball and It’s Betsy, Bitch finishing second and third, respectively. Next week’s Winners’ Choice category is about actual football – what y’all might call soccer. It’s Premier League Football teams!
See ya next week!

Blue Parrott in St. Petersburg, FL
Teams at the Blue Parrot were happy to choose trivia over politics on the first Tuesday after the election. And they helped welcome C.J., a new host-in-training, with only some minor hazing.
Teams sailed through the first round, easily answering questions about Tums and nursery rhymes. But a few people got tripped up in the second round on their South American geography, not realizing that Ecuador owns the Galápagos Islands. Parrot Heads and QuizKnows had been tied after the first round, but QuizKnows managed to pull ahead by half-time thanks to their knowledge of musicals and profane movies.
The two teams continued to lead the pack during the next few rounds. It was still a tight race going into the final question. QuizKnows lead by 10, but anything can happen with those 12-point wagers. Our final question stumped many people out there, leaving them scratching their heads over what movie character paratroopers watched before their first big jump at Fort Benning. QuizKnows were the only ones to correctly guess: GERONIMO!!!!
Congrats to all of our teams who competed tonight. Here are the results:
First Place: QuizKnows
Second Place: Parrot Heads
Third Place: Hot Chicks

Quincy’s South in Rockville, MD
Quincy’s never fails to have a house jam-packed with veteran teams. It also seems like any team on any given week has a shot to win. I’ve said it before, Quincy’s may very well be one of the most competitive venues in the circuit and we always have a great game to support that! The battle tonight was a dog-fight between Uncle Jack and Sofa King Smart who were neck and neck up near the top for the duration of the game.
Sofa King Smart was the team in first after the halfway point though Uncle Jack was close behind. Round 3 had a wordplay question that played fairly difficult considering. We wanted a foreign country that owned the “Q-8” gas company. Lots of teams playing on the Q and picking “Qatar” though when you actually say “Q-8” what does it sound like? Yep, it was that easy. It’s Kuwait! Less teams getting that than expected.
Other than that, the game played fairly tame and Sofa King Smart was on the positive end of that. They led the entire way, led going into the final, and got the final correct for the win. 2nd place to Uncle Jack who did all they could to catch up. 3rd to Screaming Death Monkey, a recent 2-time winner here at Quincy’s. The holiday season coming soon, come join us for trivia next Tuesday, your last chance before Turkey Day!

What a world, what a world… For the second week in a row, Boogie Friends dominated at trivia. They wonce again took first place, with second place going to pony pals, who didn’t pony around when it came to the right answers. ABTK did their best and came in 3rd place.
