I’d Drive Over a Cliff for Thursday Night Trivia!
OK…. we’ll admit it, the first half of tonight’s game was a bit on the easier side, as many teams were able to push their score past 80 points at the break. Champion Billiards had a SEVEN-WAY tie for second place. We’ll also admit that we were setting you up a bit, because we knew the third round was going to come in like a jackhammer, finishing with a one-two punch that would put a little separation in the field. A few of our top teams came out unscathed, but who took home the CASH tonight?
THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (61 teams across seven venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Clever Team Name (Quincy’s) with 168
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Power Vacuum (Champion Billiards) with 162
–> Highest First Half Score: Power Vacuum (Champion Billiards) and Nasty Neutrons (Quincy’s) with 90
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Clever Team Name (Quincy’s)
–> The aforementioned ‘one-two punch’ to close out Round 3 included back-to-back questions with a success rate of about 30% each:
– Which passageway leading from the oral and nasal cavities to the esophagus has a name derived from the Greek word meaning ‘throat’?
– Which two-time Academy Award winner earned his first Tony Award for playing the lead role in the 2010 Broadway revival of August Wilson’s Fences, of which he is currently adapting into a feature film starring himself and Viola Davis?
–> No team was able to notch six points on the 6-4-2, by knowing that Calvin Coolidge is the only U.S. President to have been born on Independence Day.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (28.5% success rate):
–> In the last 30 years, what is the only film to earn two Oscar nominations in the category of Best Lead Actress? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)

Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg, VA
It was nice to be back at Bunker after a small hiatus, and good to see you all once again. The third round looked like a killer as we had two back to back questions that really hit most of the teams pretty hard. The final proved to be a tough one tonight with a strategic zero wager culminating into a tie for first. Here are the results:
First Place: The Indians
Second Place: Washington Foreskins
Third Place: Cranius Maximus
Next week’s first category: Washington Nationals

Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD:
Those damn technology demons! Many thanks to the two gentlemen who offered their expertise, but she just needed to take a breather and think about it for a minute. Or 15… You can’t rush a woman like that, even when she is made of circuit boards… OK. Too many jokes. We had a good night, it was nice to see so many well loved yet not often seen faces joining me at Champions tonight! Whatever team name you’re going by these days, I still love seeing you all! Come on in and see us some Thursday night.
The final was a good one tonight with about half our teams picking it up, and it led to two of our teams tied for 3rd. It was awesome to watch as each team thought they were out of it completely! Between A Crudely Drawn Penis and Vitrifiers, the wind blew just right for the Vitrifiers and they took our 3rd spot tonight. Even with the bonus points Crudely Drawn Penis got for the arts and crafts. Next time I wanna see a snowflake cut out. 2nd went to Power Vac, there just wasn’t enough strategy to hold the day as Just Good Enough picked up the top spot! Love it! Not so excited about next weeks category. Oh man. Drink before. lol.
First Place: Just Good Enough
Second Place: Power Vacuum
Third Place: Vitrifiers
Next week’s first category: Sam Sings 1980s Pop Songs

Oh man what a night. We were in a tent in the rain and we still had a blast (Even though I made more mistakes than I would like to admit! ;P) Love you guys – one more week to go! After the final question, flipped the board around, here’s how the final standings went down:
First Place: Faking Bad
Second Place: Rock Lobster
Third Place: Sloppy Seconds
Next week’s first category: Anthrax (the disease, not the band)

Tonight at the Links of Chalendon we had a great game, with most of our teams returning for a second week after we kicked things off with Opening Night last week. Our question of the night involved professional wrestling, as we asked for the wrestler who has earned eight NWA Championships, six WCW, and two WWE titles. He is also nicknamed “The Nature Boy”. The answer of course was Ric Flair, but what was awesome to me was when the teams did the famous Ric Flair “Wooo”. After the final question was asked, these were our top three teams:
First Place: Balls Out
Second Place: Itallion Stallions
Third Place: Greens in Regulation
Next week’s first category: 1980s Horror Films

Fish Market in Alexandria, VA
THE STREETS FLOODED! Maybe this kept people away, but the devoted trivia players joined us tonight for our game. We saw many coming in from off the streets to evade the bad weather tonight that decided to join us, putting our numbers into the double digits even with the river coming into Old Town! A few teams we recognized were You’re Killing Me Smalls and Shack Attack, most everyone else was new to the game. We’d see if the veterans would be able to hold off the newcomers tonight!
Round 1 saw one of the toughest questions of the game, as “Sweet Valley High” books are apparently not amazingly popular with the crowd out tonight. Only a few teams nailing this one 100%, with the author too! Uncle Tito, a newcomer, JUST BARELY missed points here, putting “Valley High”. It was clear they had something to prove after that one, missing barely anything and sitting near the top at the half!
The end round 3 saw a 3-way tie in first at 106 between Adam’s Family, Uncle Tito, and You’re Killing Me Smalls. A damn tight one tonight! After round 4, Uncle Tito was able to squeak into the lead by a single point, looking to win with a correct response. Final played tough tonight with only two correct responses of “Thelma and Louise”. One of those teams was You’re Killing Me Smalls, looking to cap off a good night of trivia with a W… However, it was Uncle Tito who ALSO got it right and, as they sat in the lead going into the final, they’d take this one down! Good game! 2nd place to You’re Killing Me Smalls, 3rd to Adam’s Family!
Good game tonight the Fish Market, hope for better weather next week BUT it feels like we are officially into the Fall Season. This ALSO means its Season XIV of PHT AND Football Season! Great times of the year! Hope to see you soon!
First Place: Uncle Tito
Second Place: You’re Killing Me Smalls
Third Place: Adam’s Family
Next week’s first category: Bill Murray Films (PLEASE NOTE: The picture below actually GIVES AWAY the answer!)

Guido’s in Frederick, MD
We had a fun battle at our Thursday night game at Guido’s Speakeasy! I love how laid back and loose all the teams that play here seem to be! But after the smack talking and final answers were done, this is how it played out… In a close 3rd was Team Meat, pulling out 2nd by a point was Boner Damage, and extending their win streak one more week was Spitters are Quitters!! They picked a fun winners choice for next week, “Triple 50-50: Golden Girls or Designing Women”, so study up and come have some fun with us next Thursday at Guido’s!!
